Optimistic er, futile furniture shopping continues...

I must be a glutton for punishment. I should take my furniture defeats as a sign from God telling me to throw some pillows on the floor and be done with it. But no, I still want some $%#ing furniture so I continue the hunt.

I thought I had found an option on Craigslist this weekend but when I got some follow photos, the coffee table I thought might work was ugly as sin. Oh well.

Then I found the site of an antique dealer, Jean Marcfray that has the most beautiful pieces.

Prices upon request. Silly me, I requested and nearly fell out of my chair when I learned the prices. Gasp. Moving on.
I guess Ill use my old coffee table for a while longer. I had plan on demoting it to the basement man room but it has a stay of execution for now. Its not what I want but I don't have the energy to keep looking right now.
But I still have a whole house outside of the living room to furnish so I'm turning a little bit of attention to the bedroom. I've given up the dream of having the perfect upholstered antiqued headboard and moved on to more realistic aspirations like buying a bed that is mass manufactured (since that has been so easy for me thus far!). Ive found two options. One I prefer but the other is half the price. Without giving too much away, what do you think?

Hope everyone had a lovely holiday weekend. The weather in the area was just amazing. I spent the entire three days doing nothing much and it was great. And of course I made a visit to the telectroscope I was talking up earlier in the week. OK, it was a little bit lame because there were so many other people there but its still very fun.

I should have known the prices would be inflated in your city , same in Toronto.
Who needs a beautiful coffee table anyway ...

  2. Hiya! Long time lurker, first time commentor - I prefer the one on the right, the one with the cleaner lines... but the other one is quite lovely, too.
    Don't give up!!

here is a beautiful option for you as a coffee table , I think it is your style, just stock up on scotch guard and there you go , you could even make a slip cover for it for a change or protection if you ever have little ones other than kitty.

  4. I like the one on the right better. There's something about the footboard on the other (and the long piece of wood in lieu of feet) that makes it look really clunky.

  10. While I think I would normally be drawn to the bed on the left, I've seen the one on the right in person and it looks gorgeous.

  12. Thanks midwest chica - I can't see the ebay auction you posted but if its the $2500 coffee table, thats definitely not in the cards. I want to keep it to less than $700 max.

  16. Chris - Im loving my soapstone. I thought I'd oil it more b/c I had thought Id want a more solid black...but I actually love the gray look. I know it will get black evenutally and thats all good but I oil it when Im in the mood. I love how nothing can stain it. We haven't had any incidents of big scrapes or gouges yet (fingers crossed). So far, its been great. Even my husband who was dead set against it loves it now.

  17. Maybe you could take a look at Shades of Light for a coffee table. They have some mirrored pieces. Horchow does too, although I think it's owned by Nieman Marcus, so most of their stuff is overpriced. Z Gallerie might be an option too - I got a couple of mirrored pieces there that work for me at a decent price.
