Life is short - good enough is better than nothing

We spent part of yesterday at a wake mourning the passing of a young man who was taken much too soon. A sobering reminder that life is short. Tell the ones you love how you feel, don't put off your dreams for too long, make the most of today - all of those platitudes that sound canned & corny but are too true. So the theme of today's post will be my attempt at not waiting for the perfect thing tomorrow but appreciating all the less than perfect things today.

On Saturday, we found ourselves wandering the garden section of home depot. Our neighbors have been putting us to shame with their pretty container gardens so it was time to do our bit.

Hardly a botanical haven but a little color up the steps makes a nice little accent. I also planted a dying rose bush in a large container (sorry, I didn't take a photo) that I'm unsure will thrive in this shady spot but I'm going to give it a try.

I also finally hung the beautiful pve design drawing in the vestibule. As you can see, the frame isn't quite the right size for the matte but until I have a chance to frame it properly, I'd rather it be on display than hidden away. I almost like the little bits of black peaking out at top and bottom. Almost :)

With that concept in mind, I also hung the scary old woman potrait purchased a few months ago off ebay. Its not the right scale for the space (I really want something larger and more impactful here - any suggestions?) but its better on the all than on the floor. I can always hang something larger later.

I had planned on waiting until rooms were truly "finished" before doing before and after shots but keeping with theme, I'm not waiting any longer. I did order those chiavari chairs a few weeks ago so I had hoped to have a little more to show here. There were supposed to arrive this week. Considering my luck with furniture, I should have expected that they be MIA. But keeping with the theme, I'm did the before/after anyway.

Left side is how this room appeared when we purchased the house more than a year ago and the right side shows how it looked this Sunday.

Hope everyone has had a beautiful weekend - back to the grind.

  7. Your place is looking heavenly. I love that drawing in the vestibule. And I agree that a few flowers go a LONG way. Nice job!
You have such marvellous taste and I think you are my long lost sister perhaps (because your tastes are right up my alley and you say things that remind me so much of myself!)

Thanks also for the reminder to celebrate the perfection of the imperfection of today.
