'All those who wander...' freebie

The past few weeks have been a bit extra stressful lately so I've been more emotional than my usual steely self. So when I stumbled upon this beautiful verse by J.R.R.Tolken, it hit a chord with my sensitive side. I've never read one of his books so aside from the first line, it was entirely new to me.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

It inspired me to do another inspirational mini poster freebie (the first one here, inspired by my favorite movie). And while I know the second line has nothing to do with traveling per se, it certainly seems fitting for someone who loves to wander like me.

So from me to you, an inspirational mini poster. Hope it brightens your day. Just download and print.

Whether your wandering involves pajamas in your living room or steamer trunks to Antarctica, this one is for you.
PS: Don't worry, Im not going to turn into one of those blogs that gets all
theoretical on you about the meaning of life or posts pictures of kittens hanging onto tree limbs. I promise to keep my weepy whiny time to a minimum.

  2. My girlfriends and I have what we call "Two Minute Whines" :) We'll say "Okay, I need two minutes to whine!" and off we go. After a few minutes one will remind us the time is up and point out a blessing that's recent or present. Works like a charm everytime. We all need to cleanse our soul, whether it's through tears or quiet conversation, but we are surrounded by His infinite blessings each day. We just need to be reminded it's okay to cry, because laughter always follows. "Even this shall pass away"

  3. For some reason, this isn't working. It just leads to an image of an icon with a paintbrush, even when I Save Link As...

  4. I can't get it to download either. Thanks for putting it up, I have loved this quote for ages and will love having it hang in my house!

  7. Perfection.

    As for the Love Actually freebie - how did I miss that? LOVE. THAT. MOVIE. To the point of annoyance. Every holiday season, Scott knows what I'll be popping in the DVD player...

    I cry every single time.

  8. Nice verse, and I love your poster. My son, (age 2) has been going through a little fussy streak, so now we take turns "fussing". Would you like a turn?
    Hope you're feeling better soon!

  11. :::NERD ALERT:::
    Actually the poem is in Lord of the Rings. It's a reference to the character Aragorn, who is the descendants of kings, but he is living in exile. More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_that_is_gold_does_not_glitter

    But it is a really pretty poem!

  21. What a wonderful quote! I don't think I've ever heard that one before. And I love the mini-poster. Thanks!

    P.S. Just wanted to let you know I quoted you on my blog today. Something you said in a recent interview really resonated with me!

  22. I LOVE it that Melanie above wrote, You are "aloud" to have your moments. I think she meant "allowed" but the thought of "aloud" is so much better in this context. Get it out. Say it aloud. Makes you feel better.

    Thanks for the freebie.
