Brimfield bounty.

Guess where we spent this Friday and Saturday?? Exploring the seemingly endless tables at the mother of all flea markets in Brimfield Mass. To be honest, I didn't even know it existed until I started writing this blog and some of you alerted me to it years ago. I've always wanted to go but something had stopped me up until this weekend.

There is almost nothing I enjoy more than a good flea and this was not a let down. If it exists, it can be found here. Everything from complete junk that you wouldn't want to touch to high end furniture was all on display here.

More than buying I love to look - the displays, the collections, the styling, the good and the bad.

It wasn't all roses and sunshine. For one thing most items were too expensive but there were some gems if you looked hard enough. Some sellers were quite nasty (one nearly attacked me when I wanted to take a photo of her booth.), some were out and out fibbers (one claimed a mirror was from the 17th century when it was made out of plastic! Huh?)

All this is par for the course when it comes to thrifting so it didn't bother me too much. I did come home with a few treasures that I'll share with you in another post.

I hope to go back to Brimfield next year!

Who else was there with me?

  1. I went!
I agree, it's a hit and miss; some booth owners are so friendly and open -- and then others really do not like photographers. It was a good weekend for it; I had fun too.

  2. I've never been but I heard there's trouble with parking there. Any more details?

Parking was very simple. Several areas on site with a nominal fee. The whole thing is well organized considering its a small town and everything is so close together.

  4. I used to go there when I lived in MA.  Loved it.  In fact, I did a double take when I looked at your photo of the phonograph.  I bought one there with a bunch of the Edison phonograph cylinders back in the 90's.  Went to another great antique market back then that was in CT where I bought a great iron bed.  Ah the finds.  Can't seem to come across those here in MN.  Just don't know where to look yet, I guess.  Glad you had a good time.

It was a great weekend for antiquing, wasn't it? I would love to go Brimfield some day. I'd have to bring a UHaul, I think! I managed to pick up some finds at the biggest show around here. Can't wait to see your goodies.

Missed it this time!  Bad scheduling on my part.  Maybe next time.

  7. I've only been once, on a mini-vacation trip, but I felt the same as you about the sellers.  I would say that it is probably the most aggressive/hostile fleamarket I've been to.  I also got shoo'd away from taking pictures even after I'd asked permission of one of the booth helpers.  Oh well.

I found a great mirror there this time around!  It's just so amazing the one-of-a-kind stuff you can find.  Some vendors are nice, if you introduce yourself as a blogger and offer a link to their sites.  Next time you should join the TweetUp!   http://www.everythingin3s.com/2011/09/09/brimfield-tweet-up/

  12. You had such great weather for it! I went two years ago and it was raining cats n' dogs. It's definitely a fun event, but also overwhelming. It takes a lot of patience to sort out the good stuff. I suspect that I totally overpaid for the few things I bought.

Hello,  I am going to tell you something that struck me about these photo's not to upset you, but it is an observation.  I have just seen the holocaust film 'Sarah's Key', and the stack of suitcases and piles of keys (which I love), reminded me of the piles of belongings that the Nazi's sorted from the Jewish people.  I think I may have been spooked out by that flea market.....

I'm so glad that you shared your trip with me today.  My best friend and I have been twice.  We are from Texas so it takes a full year to save up enough to make the trip and have money to spend.  We have already booked our place to stay for the show next May.  I wrote a few posts on my blog about the May show, if you'd like to stop by.  Two of my daughters went with us on our last trip, and we had such a wonderful time.  We've decided to make it an annual girl trip.  I can't wait to see what treasure you brought home with you.

    Smiles,
    Carol

Wish I had known about this place when I lived in CT.  Now I live in VA a bit of a drive to go but boy what I wouldn't give to walk thru there.  Love it!

My heart is racing, that's fabulous!!  Oh the vintage keys! My father was a locksmith by trade and I am kicking myself for not keeping all the vintage keys he had.  Loved all your finds.
