Stuck for a Color?

One topic that comes up a lot in reader emails: What should I paint my {insert room here}? I actually really enjoy talking color and decor so I don't mind the question at all but I know first hand there is a lot of color choosing anxiety out there. For those feeling the pressure, I have a little secret: there simply is no one 'perfect' color for any space. Trust! So if you are one of these people that get a bit antsy choosing a color (and who doesn't?), I hope that knowing that there are LOTs of great shades that will work! Hope that makes you feel more zen when faced with the endless wall of paint chips.

Yea, that still leaves the question: what color? When you are really stuck, sometimes a little outside help can be just the thing. MyColortopia has two fun online tools to help you narrow it down. My Image Inspiration helps you pull a color palette from a favorite photo. In my case I picked an snapshot I took on my last trip to London and let it suggest a few shades.

If that doesn't work for you, you can try some colors that might work with your personality. I'm a sucker for an online quiz in the first place but I have to say that this one really nailed my color preferences!

disclosure: I have been sponsored by Glidden brand to write for their site, My Colortopia, but the thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

  1. Ooohh, picking color can be a fabulously painful process. And it's not even just about the color you pick but the light in the room you're painting. You have to consider how it looks in daylight and in the evening under artificial light. It can completely change the color you've chosen.

  2. Picking colors can be such a pain.  I'll see a color I like but then in my room, with my light I'll hate it.  Exhausting!
