Love it or leave it?

Got this sea urchin vase from Joss and Main to add to my ceramic sea shell vessel collection at the shore.

Now that I have it I cant decide if I love it or it looks like an alien nipple mass. Am I just twisted?

Discuss.

so funny ... the first thing I thought of when I saw it was "nipples".  I think it's kinda cool and unique and seriously who wouldn't want nipple art? ;)

  2. lol.....on it's own it's nipple city..in a collection just a lovely nippleless urchin.  keep.

  3. Awesome. I totally didn't notice mass of alien nipples until you pointed it out.  I just thought it was pretty.  It's a great conversation piece...after a few drinks...

Since you said it first now I can say it.  Ewww, nipple vase.  But it would be an interesting conversation piece for sure.

Well....NOW I see it and think nipples. ;)
It's interesting to look at though!  So what if you occasionally have a nipple centerpiece at your shore house dinner parties!  It'll be a topic of fun conversation!

  7. I liked it until you said nipples.  Now that's all  I see.  Maybe with other things around it...or not.

Nipples.  Lots and lots of nipples.  Sorry.

  9. Alien nipples. And you can't un-see it once you've gone there. I had the same problem once with a vase.

  10. very nippley in deed

Hilarious!!  I didn’t think of nipples when I initially looked at it, but now I can’t see beyond it. lol!  With that said, it will probably drive you nuts in the long run because the little tentacles really do resemble nipples.

Maybe it’s  milk conch for baby seahorses :).

now that you've mentioned nipples, i can't not see them.  Maybe painting it a different color would help???

  14. I like it, but since my husband and his friends are (mentally) 12, I wouldn't get it.

  15. Ha!  So funny, that cracked me up!!

  16. I kind of love it. It'd look great with a spiky air plant or succulent.

    Hate it .... Sorry

  18. I can't view it objectively now.  After you said nipples that's all I can see,  Nipples everywhere.

nipples or no nipples, i don't like it. i would say leave it.

  22. LOL on the alien nipple mass! You are too funny and have such an imagination. I like this overall shape and design. It looks very Jonathan Adler so I'd keep it.

  23. At first, I loved it. And then I read your blurb and now I kinda don't like it at all. Except that I grabbed less onto the 'nipples' issue and more onto the 'alien' bit. Stare at it too long, it starts to freak me out. Glance at it quickly and without too much thought and I can enjoy it's nubbly white beauty.

Gotta say leave it. Now I can't stop staring at it.

  24. That is exactly how my husband would of described it. And I would of bought it too.

I honestly loved it - until I read "alien nipple mass" and now that is all I can see!

After sitting outside at a yard sale with my parents all weekend and seeing all the stuff my mother had to get rid of, I have a new personal mantra to only keep what I absolutely love...and knowing that you'll never be able to get rid of an item for what you paid for it, if it's going to end up in a closet in a few weeks because you decide you can't look at it anymore, return it now while you can get your money back!

  26. Keep. Just don't paint it green.

  27. Nipples...cant get over that, sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  28. yup I think it does look like nipples.  I have a glass with nipple like bumps on it.  Needless to say it's a favourite of the men folk!

  29. Suck-ulent as it relates to the alien nipple mass?? (Smirk. I'm a 12 year old boy at heart I guess.)

  30. It looks exactly like an alien nipple mass...and I love it!  It think it's beautiful!

Oh that's perfectly acceptable. My work sells a vase that honest to god looks like it's full of sperm.

  32. I'm coming down on the alien nipple mass side.

LOL, from afar I ADORE is, and through it would look good in glossy teal. But when you focus in just on the nubs, it really does look like nipples!

After months of breastfeeding, I only WISH my nipples would look as good as your urchin vase.  Sooooo......what I'm trying to say is that I'm jealous & you should keep it (if anything, it's a conversation piece).

I know, right, just when you thought you'd heard it all from me.  You're welcome.  =]

I loved it! But then like many others, once you said nipples, that's all I can see! I still like it though...

OK can't stop laughing, my husband would love this unfortunately for different reasons, I personally like it to bad it was not in turquoise it would rock even more.

  38. oh gosh, I didn't think of that until you mentioned it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ive never breastfed and my nippes don't look anything like that.  Just sayin :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. oh man, definitely a planet of nipples.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Nipples are so in right now!

Kidding....I think it's great, but I'd you tell people nipples, they'll think nipples. It's all I can see now anyway! But it's unique and white and a cool shape to boot.

    ReplyDelete
  42. On the fence - I think it looks a bit off but maybe doing a quick photoshop of it painted glossy black may work...

Holy nipples Batman! Not sure if I'd keep it or not. Hey, if you keep it, at least it will be a funny conversation piece. :-)

Oooh, I think I agree with you about the alien nipples!  Before you said that, I liked it!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Now all I can think of when I look at it is, "alien nipple mass, alien nipple mass." I do think it's cool though. And probably looks less nippley amongst a seashell collection versus if it was a lone nipple, er I mean, shell.

  47. Jessi7:12 PM

Haha!!! Yep, either, nipples or chicken pox!! Probably wouldn't keep...

Unfortunately, I think it resembles human nipples rather than alien.  Even more unfortunately, I don't think Joss and Main items are returnable -- at least mine weren't.

I have to be honest, I saw the picture before your description, and my brain immediately said, "Wow, looks like a bunch of nipples."  Then I read the rest of your post and cracked up.

I think it would look great with other things around it. Like if it were on a bookshelf with books and other balanced items? Or used as a vase. I like the texture of it. It just needs to blend in more. :)

ummm....definite alien nipple vase vibe.  Could put a picture of it with a tacky caption on Pinterest but not a keeper.

Sorry but... as soon as I saw it I thought "What IS that?"  I didn't see sea urchin at all, probably because a white sea urchin would be a dead sea urchin, wouldn't it?  Maybe mixed in with the other sea stuff it wouldn't be so painful to look at but...  ah... wait.   Who am I kidding.  It's what my eye would be drawn to & I'd still say "What IS that?"  You do have to let us know your final decision, though.  :)

  65. Ah...before I read your post the vase screamed "look at all my nipples" to me...then I read your post and was so thankful it wasn't just me. Curious what your hubbys comment was when he seen it. I'm sure men would find it fascinating and the little old lady visiting from next door may never come over again...lol.

I like it, even though, yes, it does look like a mass of alien nipples. I second the woman who wrote, "who wouldn't want nipple art?" Amen, to that: )
