Paint it black!

I couldn't resist anymore - I just had to have my own chalkboard wall. It's tucked away on the small wall in my office and I can't wait to get cracking with some pieces of chalk. The instructions say I have to wait 3 days for it to cure but I am going to be on the safe side and give it at least a week. I'm sure its going to take a while before I can draw anything worth sharing but I totally have itchy fingers waiting to get started.

As a complete aside, I'm kinda loving the black wall. Maybe I need to have an entirely black room somewhere? {Insert evil laugh}

  1. I love it! Accent chalkboard walls make such a statement. (Plus, it's totally practical.) If we could paint in our apartment, I'd do one either in my kitchen or around the front door. Perfect for reminding my husband to pick something up on his way home ;)

  3. Your wall looks so beautiful! I agree that the secret bonus of the chalkboard wall is that you now have a black accent wall. I painted a similar wall in my condo guest room/study.

    I commend you for your patience to follow directions and let the paint dry. :-) Personally, I was chalking it up 24 hours after I painted and it worked just fine (also Ben brand)! I do recommend priming the wall with some chalk first, though.

    Love love love!

  5. That sounds like so much fun.  I'd love to do one somewhere in our house as well, but it's pretty low on the priority list right now.

  8. Hi Vinita - Asian Paints actually carries a chalkboard paint. You should check into that (and I'd be curious if it's good too) Here's a link from their website:

    Awesome!  Are you going to use regular chalk or a chalk-ink marker?  I've always been intrigued by those but haven't used it yet.

  17. I keep thinking about doing this on the pocket door separating my kitchen & mudroom.  I'm so afraid I won't like it. The door is wood so once I paint it it would be almost impossible to change it back.

    Your wall looks amazing already!

  18. Looking fab lady!  I know you are gonna make it even cooler when you draw on it.  I wish my house was bigger so I could find a good spot for one.

  23. I'll probably use regular chalk since shading is easier but chalk markers are great.

    Your best bet, once your wall has completely cured, is to rub the entire wall (mostly for even appearance) with white chalk.  The chalk will get into all the nooks and crannies and make your writing and drawings more uniform and easier to manage.  Once you do that, simply wipe the wall with a wet sponge.

    I use chalk markers in my coffee shops and they work like a charm!  Vibrant and easier to draw with.  You could even use a combination chalk marker and real chalk for shading.
