Ahem...

Excuse this interruption of fun stuff but I have a few random thoughts that I wanted to share.

As many of you have noticed, the blog is looking a little different. I'm so excited to finally reveal the new look! Brittany of Gallery Eight translated my design into code (aka reality) for me so big thanks to her. There are still a few updates to make and kinks to work out but if you are seeing any problems, please let me know.

For the renovators, DIYers and home obessed, I'm hosting a Quality Bath $100 gift card giveaway on the Brooklyn Limestone facebook page. Stop over and leave a comment to enter.

If you want to talk color with me, I hope you'll take a minute to add your 2 cents to my MyColortopia blog posts.

Thanks for all the great input on my nursery conundrum. I thought a clear winner would emerge but there is clearly as much of a difference of opinion out there as there is in my own household. Its a tough call. I definitely want to be selective in what I bring in but I also have to be realistic that there will be a lot of STUFF no matter how selective I am. And while I can never tell what it will be like post baby, I am planning on having baby sleep in there from pretty early on so its not purely a design decision but a practial one. Decisions, decisions. Tough call.

Still no clue on what microwave I'm getting to replace the defunct one. I'm letting Mr. Limestone take care of that nasty to-do.

And finally next week I'll be turning the reigns over to a few of my very favorite bloggers for a new series titled 'Transformed: Trash to Treasure". I hope it inspires. Do you have a great DIY transformation project to share and want to be featured? Email me!

  1. Just another 2 cents for the nursery question... No matter how selective you are, family and friends will no doubt be quick to shower you with tons of stuff whether you want it or not! You will get clothes for all sizes up to 2 years old. Do you have storage space in other areas of your house to accommodate this? If you have a basement or attic space this might help. If not, I would definitely go with the bigger room.

Another thing, and I know this is ridiculous to think about at this point, but if you plan on having more children in a few years, do you have a definite plan of how you would logistically set them up in your house? Maybe think about that and work towards that plan?

  2. One way to help in your selectivity of baby stuff is to check out the book "Baby Bargains." I removed half my registry after reading the book because it tells you straight up what you need and don't.

Liking the new chalkboard blog look though it's hard to distinguish links from regular text as there is little color contrast.

  3. The makeover looks great! Very chic. It looks like slate, like a chalkboard, which I love. I wish I could do code . . .

  4. Okay, I think Hubs needs to just take care of the microwave issue and cede his part of the nursery debate, to "yes dear." For me, I would go with the bigger room with a closet. It is truly astounding at the stuff that babies add to a home (regardless if it is "needed" or not), and if the other room is as small as that, bringing in storage may not be possible without it looking like a wall-to-wall furniture store.

  5. I LOVE the new site design!

I will also weigh in on the nursery debate - go with the bigger room. One of my favorite things about my daughters nursery is how the light glows in the morning, and we sit in the glider and look out the window as she eats. You want to be comfortable in the room!

  7. I think you may be too busy for the next 20 years to ever sit in your craft room again (haha!). If you are not going to move from that house, better to use the bigger room, as then there will be no "next" room-move later. Do you have attic space you can spread out into at a later date?

We have a crib, a dresser with the changer pad on top, a rocker and side table. That's it. We also have a closet and there is nothing in there but stuff for our office. So to be honest, we haven't used her closet. Our baby is 6 months. I stuck to basics and you can jam a lot of baby clothes in a dresser! Lastly, my hubby was very involved in the whole design of the room process including what room we would use. It is one of the few ways he gets to participate in the whole baby growing process and there were moments of not agreeing with him but in the end he was right.

  13. I love the new updated look of your blog. Will you have a new "grab me" button too? I recently updated my own blog too because it was turning out to not be mostly about my brownstone and decorating. It seems that Miss Collar City Brownstone has a lot of thoughts she wants to share....LOL

We made the little room in our house the nursery then when it was time for the "big kid" room we redid the guest room and moved him in there. We decided that was easier in case we decided to have a second, the nursery could stay the same.
