Calling All Halloween Fanatics

While most people are relishing the final days of the summer, I'm anxiously looking forward to the crisp days of fall and of course, Halloween.  I used to believe I was kinda crazy and I was the only one thinking up costume ideas while on the beach.  But thanks to Pinterest, I know now I'm not alone.  If you look at the feeds lately, Halloween projects, costumes and recipes are popping up more and more.  Yea for other crazy people like me :)

  1. LOVE Halloween! My husband and I live in Salem, MA, so Halloween is a way of life here in October. We have a party every year but don't always stick to a particular theme except for our bathroom. The bathroom is always fun to go crazy with since it's such a small enclosed space.

Last year it was a carnival/clown theme. My husband turned our mirror into a giant clown face with the mirror being its open mouth. We hung red and white streamers across the shower curtain like a circus tent, had rotating colored party light bulbs as the only light, and put a speaker in the bathtub that played creepy carnival music that you could only hear once you closed the door.

I think by far our most successful/freaky/fun bathroom theme though was "The Body Bag" year. We walled off the entire bathroom from floor to ceiling in black trash bags, sealed off the shower so it made the bathroom super narrow and claustrophobic, had some body parts sticking out from various shelves, and only had red light bulbs as the light in the bathroom. Walking into a room that was about 8ftx3ft with only red light and totally blacked out walls was pretty creepy.

    1. Wow - sounds super fun! Do you have photos posted somewhere? I have to see it!

PS: Can you believe I've never been to Salem? I've always wanted to go for Halloween but obviously we can't be there and here at the same time. :)

    2. The body bag room was really hard to photograph, and I'm not a photographer at all. I have some photos, I'll see if I can dig them up and post on Pinterest. I have a few other photos on Pinterest from our parties: http://pinterest.com/kerryneenan/our-halloween-party-decor/

Salem is crazy Halloween town for pretty much the entire month of October, you should come up earlier in the month some time. The weekend before Halloween is almost as good as actual Halloween when it happens to fall in the middle of the week. There's a lot of great people watching and Salem is a fun town in general.

  7. We love Halloween at our house. So much that I had my son on Halloween ha ha :) Ok I didn't plan it that way, but we love that it happened!

  8. I wish I could give you some ideas. While Halloween is my favorite holiday, I am terrible at thinking up costumes every year. Can't wait to see what you dream up!

  9. Due to a variety of reasons, we didn't decorate the interior of the house last year, but here is our setup from two years ago: http://thehappyheathen.com/?p=1906. We are already in the process of planning more for the home of the Mad Scientist theme this year.

  10. I just discovered your blog from doing what else? Yes, that's right, looking up pins on Pinterest for none other than Halloween ideas. You're Halloween posts (I've dug all through the archives here) are absolutely awe inspiring. Every year I plan a big "grown up" costume party and I will definitely be following your Halloween board from here on out! (Just a side note, I usually start coming up with next year's theme before this year is even over!)

  13. Last year my two year old insisted on being an Adventure Time character, so we made these costumes.

Now the trouble is, everyone is putting the pressure on us to top this year's costume and we are stumped.

    1. I'm not really up on the latest kids characters so I have no idea what you were but the costumes look great. And I especially love that you went the extra mile by decorating your trunk! You need to move by me so we can go over the top for Halloween together! Great job. (If you need family halloween costume inspiration, pinterest is loaded with it!)

  14. OK.... LOVE Halloween! It makes me happy when I find someone who loves Halloween as much as I do and goes all out! Your blog inspires me. You are so talented and creative. I am doing an "Insane Asylum" Halloween Party for my 17 year old daughter. Last one before she goes away to college so I want it to be amazing! I LOVE LOVE LOVE your Thorazine invitations! So clever! Seriously the greatest invite ever! Unfortunately I am not very talented when it comes to computer graphics so I was wondering if you would be willing to share your Thorazine label and address label? Let me know. shannonmehr@yahoo.com
