Shore Kitchen Cabinets? Check.

The cabinets are in!  Hooray. You can also see the floors a bit better in this shot.  I'm really happy with the dark gray.

A few more to-do left on the list.  Aside from the painting, a little finishing work and the countertops, we have to figure out exactly where those open shelves are going.  Obviously they will be on the left side of the galley but I'm waiting to see how it looks with the sink and faucet installed before I decide on placement.

Speaking of countertops...

Huzzah.  After my tour of (what seemed like) every marble yard in the tristate area, we have our slab of marble. Naturally we have to wait a few more weeks to get that templated (this is the longest short project ever!) but  the home stretch is in sight.

Thanks to everyone who commented on the paint colors.  Dusty Miller seemed to be the winner but since we are repainting the living room darker, I wanted to keep the kitchen lighter. Mint is still haunting my mind but Mr. Limestone said it simply enough when he told me "you are never going to be happy with a bright mint kitchen".  I couldn't really argue with that logic so instead I'm going with a shade that is a cross between the dusty miller and the soft mint: Glidden's Jade Frost.  (Look how fabulous it looks in Centsational Girl's home).

Finally I somehow completely forgot I had to get cabinet knobs or pulls so off I go to find some.  Any suggestions?

  1. I haven't been following closely, but West Elm has some rope handles that are gorgeous.

    1. Those are super cool. But too much for me in such a large quanity (we need 22 of them!) They would be pretty amazing on a dresser or cabinet though.

  2. I say keep it open until you see what you fall in love with.

The kitchen looks fantastic. You give me hope that kitchen renos can be finished and that, someday, I may see my own kitchen done. (please, oh please!)

    1. We weren't really in a rush but this project is taking forever just the same considering we tried to keep it as simple as possible (ordered stock cabinets, made no changes to rough plumbing or beams, etc) But you know how it goes...home projects always take more time and money than you expect.

  3. oooh, love the jade color! It reminds me of sea glass. I'm glad you opted out of the mint; it tends to look dated quickly. This hint of cool green is perfect! Love your marble and floors, too. You have such a wonderful touch.

    1. I think mint is coming back so Im not so worried about it being dated - more that I won't find it to be as airy as I imagine it to be. So its out for this room but don't be surprised if you see it pop up elsehwere in my house :)

  4. OK start over, if you are going to use Meta Creme sealer I have a tip about caulking, I had to replace all of mine, wish I had known what I know now.

  5. Ok so there are oils in the Meta Creme and normal silicone caulking bubbled up and started to separate over multiple applications of sealer, so I contacted the co and they said to sand the stone where the caulking will go ( it will be fine I swear )with 600 grit wet dry sand paper , clean with acetone and use a caulking with polyurethane , a lot harder to find.

    1. Is there a reason you use the Meta Creme over another sealer?

    2. It soaks into the stone , after 4 applications(1-2 weeks apart) it is good for 10 years . The best sealer out there for white marbles !

It's laughable how many knobs there are to choose from in this world. I know bc when we did our kitchen I spent weeks analyzing knobs from various websites - comparing price, color, detail, weight. I used myknobs.com. Also, lovely choice of paint color.

    1. Seriously! Im spending far too much time looking at knobs. I really love the RH Aubrey ones but I'm not done looking.

  8. Love how the kitchen is coming out. Do you mind me asking where you ordered your cabinets? We're looking for something similar for our kitchen redo.

    1. We ordered through a dealer that other people in our complex were using but this brand of stock cabinetry seems to available all over. Its made by a company called Forevermark and the style is called "Ice White Shaker". If you google Ice White Shaker you can find several companies that even sell these cabinets online. Not having used them yet, I can't say how great they are - they seem fine from my initial inspection but offer very little in customization. (Only come in stark white, limited in sizes, etc) The upside is that they come within a few weeks and are reasonably priced. Hope that helps.

  10. Ah, I love the counter you chose! And white shaker cabinets, you just cannot lose. I still love (1.5 years later) our Restoration Hardware Lugarno knobs and pulls, they are just fabulous.
