Project: Merrify

I know many of you have a hard and fast rule about not even thinking of Christmas until after Thanksgiving. Obviously, I am not one of those people but I don't really don't start doing much until this week (aka a few days before Thanksgiving) so I call that close enough!
In fact, each year, I challenge myself to finish all of the Christmas "tasks" like readying cards, doing the majority of the decorating and gift selection by the end of November so I can do more fun things with my December.  I've never actually acheived that but it sure is fun trying.

Maybe its the baby or maybe its just my normal merry self, but I'm super excited about the holidays this year. So this weekend was the official kick off in our house.  Greenery starting to go up, music is on blast, wrapping paper coming out of hiding and I'm somehow already covered in glitter that won't come off until January.  Hooray!  Who's with me?

All that to say: stay tuned because I'll be sharing this years Christmas mail, lots of Christmas decorations, some easy DIY Christmas projects, and a few more great giveaways in the next few weeks. I hope you'll be celebrating with me.

  1. I think this year it is totally justified since Thanksgiving is so late this year. By this day three years from now, it will already be the day after Thanksgiving! Can't wait to see what you come up with this time.

  2. I didn't decorate at all last year because we were in the midst of an estate sale (and its aftermath) for my grandmother's home. It was so tense and exhausting. Plus, my house was a wreck because I was never there, so I just didn't bother, and I was so sad about it.

This year, I've been cleaning like a maniac, prepping for Christmas decor to go up this weekend. I can't wait!

    1. We didn't decorate that much last year either because I was right at the end of my pregnancy so I didn't want to go too crazy. Now I feel like I have two years of decorating to catch up on :)

  3. I am one of those hard and fast let's have Thanksgiving first people. However, this year I did have my photo cards made about two weeks ago and they are just waiting to be addressed and mailed.I also bought a Christmas present over the weekend. I will start decorating this weekend after Thanksgiving.

  4. I'm very traditional when it comes to decorating after Thanksgiving. I enjoy Thanksgiving so much and don't want to short change that special holiday. Once December rolls around then it's Christmas decorating for me.

    1. I can totally understand that - I just don't do a big Thanksgiving for lots of reasons. After Halloween, I see November as sort of a resting/gear up time for Christmas with Thanksgiving as a nice break rather than a big holiday in of itself. But Im sure a lot of that has to do with not having a big family so we dont have any Thanksgiving traditions.

  5. We'll wait until after Thanksgiving (the DAY after...) to start decorating, playing music etc. but like you, I try to get the Christmas "chores" ie. mailing lists, wrapping paper bought, Christmas card brainstormed etc. ahead of time.... so on Black Friday I can jump right in. Bring on the best season of the year! =)

  6. What did you use to make the lettering for the mirror? I'm thinking of getting a cricut or a silhouette or like machine and can't decide which one,

    1. I ordered a custom decal from this site: http://www.dezignwithaz.com/custom-decals.html

I usually draw on my mirror free hand (you can see what I did last year here: http://www.brooklynlimestone.com/2012/12/whats-white-and-silver-and-red-all-over.html#.UpTSVtLz_Co) which is obviously much cheaper but also a lot more time consuming and not as impactful.

I have a silhouette but this mirror is huge so it wouldln't have been possible to do something so large myself without a hell of a lot of time piecing it together. Id never had one made before but this was so easy and quick.

  7. I totally understand the not-until-Thanksgiving peeps, and that was my tradition til we got a fake tree. That was part of the deal..if I got a fake one, I got to put it up early and wring as much Holly Jolly time out of it as possible.

Now we have several trees and II start right after Halloween. I'm usually done by the first weekend in November. That way I have plenty of time to enjoy every minute of the holidays. And wrapping ( which is very stressful for me) is so much nicer when I'm doing it with the trees all lit up and decorated and Christmas music playing.

I put my Fall decorations up in August and and I don't put Christmas in the dining room til after Thanksgiving if we're having company. Otherwise we just have the Thanksgiving decor right along with the Christmas stuff. My decorating tends to be a lot of greenery and white lights, which looks great with Thanksgiving stuff, too.
