  1. I have never had a real tree, and I am from the country. Sad, I know!! My best memories include my Dad's and Grandfathers childhood train sets being set up around the tree. Even today they are still incredible to set up. Pieces from the 30's and 50's that actually still steam. Great giveaway, my fingers are crossed!! Happy Holidays!

  2. I love this giveaway! My favorite Christmas tree memory is when my family moved to the country and my mom tried to live out the exact fantasy you mentioned above - except my brother and I were the biggest grumps ever and totally ruined it. We laugh about it now, because she was smart and took photos - we look so bratty in every single one! She didn't get her fantasy that day, but we still get a good chuckle when we talk about our former, grumpy-kid selves. :)

  4. I love real Christmas trees. My family has always had a real tree, and it has become a tradition to cut our own at a local tree farm. One tip I can offer is that before you put the tree in the stand, make a fresh cut to the bottom to ensure the tree can take up water, and to keep your tree fresh and looking beautiful longer, don't forget to water every day. They are thirsty things!

    1. Thanks Shelia. Even at the city stands, they will cut a slice off for you at the bottom before you drag it home. Its the remembering to water it everyday that can be tough :)

  5. I love real trees. We usually drive out to a friends tree farm and cut our tree and strap to the top of the car. I loove it. However, I would also enjoy having one delivered!!!

  6. We get a real Christmas tree every year. You just can't replicate that smell. The night my parents got engaged, my grandparents took an ornament off of their tree to give to my parents. My dad gave it to me on my wedding weekend. I love putting that ornament up on my tree each year. It makes trimming the tree that much more special!

  7. We always had real trees - I love the smell! My favorite memories are re-discovering all the ornaments when we decorated our tree each year. When I was young we would look at all the handmade ornaments, or the ones that were so fancy/breakable that my parents wouldn't let us hang them ourselves, and it was such a fun thing to do together! (on a sad note, a fire in my parents' house destroyed all those ornaments - but we've been collecting new ones ever since).

  8. My favorite ornament is a white owl I purchased after my my Grandma died. Her birthday was on Christmas which is even sweeter.

  10. We always had a real tree, but never cut one ourselves. Might have to find a place to do that one of these years. I think listening to my mom tell the stories of where and when we got each ornament as she unwrapped them to put on the tree is my favorite memory. I think I used to think "Yeah Mom, you already told me a hundred times", but now I find I'm pretty nostalgic like that too.

  11. Oh man! This tree would be so great! My husband and I have only been married for a year and a half. Our ornament collection consists of the two ornaments his mom has given us. Being that this is a particularly busy time for me as a grad student, I don't do much Christmas decorating but am hoping to change that soon!

  12. My favorite ornament is one my daughter made when she was in elementary school. I always did Christmas color themes and usually when she would make one in school it went to the Grandparents as it usually never fit my theme. One year she made a candy cane and painted it gold (yellow) and white (that was that years Christmas' color theme) Her teacher told her it was suppose to be painted red and white, my daughter said no, if I do that it won't go on the tree and I want it on the tree. The teacher let her paint it her colors and she was so ecstatic that it got put on the tree. It doesn't matter what the theme my little gold (yellow) & white candy cane is always on the tree now. (BTW my daughter is 25 yrs old now). Just a side note never had a real tree and my parents had a Christmas tree farm in upstate New York! ;)

  13. I love going to get our real tree with my husband and children. We always had a fake tree growing up and vowed when I was an adult I would always have a real tree.

  14. I remember when i was a little girl helping to put the tinsel all over the tree, draping it oh so carefully so it would look like sparklig ice dripping off of that fragrant tree. I loved that moment when we were finished and how beautiful the tree looked. I don't think people use tinsel too much anymore. Happy holidays everyone.

  15. I love opening the family ornament box each year and hanging the ones that my mother make the first year of her marriage. They are bells made out of egg cartons that she painted red and embellished with glitter. They are tattered and worn, probably ugly to anyone who doesn't know the history but to me and I think my siblings they are pieces of gold hanging from the tree. Representing her ability to spin straw into gold!

  16. We aren't big collectors, but we buy an ornament from every place we have traveled. Now when we decorate our tree each year, all 3 of our children each have their own boxes of ornaments and my husband and I have ours and we relive the memories every year as we decorate the tree. It's magical!

  17. I grew up in Brooklyn so I have memories of my parents buying one the tallest tree they could find at one of those pop up corner places and carrying it home over their shoulders.

  18. My favorite ornament of a partridge in a pear tree started my obsession with The 12 Days of Christmas. When friends found something they would call me and see if I had that particular set.

When I was little the tree was only put up on Christmas Eve because it was Santa's job to decorate it. So when I rushed down the stairs on Christmas morning not only was I surprised by the goodies, I was also surprised by a beautifully lit and decorated tree.

  22. I've never had a real christmas tree! My parents had these horrible, horrible 70s and 80s hallmark ornaments that we always made fun of and insisted that they should trash. Turns out they are expensive collectors items now...they had hundred or thousands of dollars in ugly ornaments on their tree every year! They still have them, and we still laugh about them.

  23. I always loved going to pick out a tree with my family. I walked through the forest of trees in front of the grocery store yesterday and a flood of happy memories entered my head just from the scent. :)

  24. This year I have decided I want a real tree! The last 10 years have been artificial.
A memory that I was just sharing this morning with a co-worker was of the last time we had a real tree we also had a kitten that was about 4 months old. We had gone out to dinner with our children and when we walked in the front door I looked at our tree and saw two little eyes looking right back at me at my eye level! It was the kitten! She had climbed the tree and was sitting on one of the branches! She tried that several more times that christmas and proceeded to knock over the tree each time. That was the last time we had a live tree! I still laugh about seeing those little eyes looking out at me!

  25. Every year my family and I go to home depot the day after Thanksgiving to get our Christmas Tree. When we were younger we would open up at least 10 trees to try and find the perfect tree. Now 20 years later my Mom just opens a couple.

  26. In college I would go out and pick the saddest little Charlie Brown tree in the forest because I was always in a small house but also because I always thought no one else would love their quirkiness. I remember one that everyone thought I was crazy to pick because it didn't even have a single trunk and looked ridiculous but when I got it home the branches actually crossed in a way to make a window, right in the middle of the tree that was perfect for my favorite ornament. Now we're in a big house and I would LOVE to have a "grown up" tree.

  32. I've always gone to pick and cut the tree with my dad after Thanksgiving! ...after walking around the farm for hours to pick the PERFECT one. We always were on a mission to pick the one with the best shape and fullest branches. Winning a tree would be awesome, it's tough to get a real one up to my apartment!

  33. I always use the artificial tree. Would be nice to win the real one :) My favorite Christmas ornament so far is picture frame from Pottery Barn we put our wedding picture in it.

  34. For my first married Christmas, my husband and I tagged a tree. To make a long story short, we did not get a chance to pick up the tree before Christmas and then there was a freak snow storm that left over 2 feet of snow on the very last day to pick up. When we went the day after the storm, there was a sign on the post of the farm that said, "Thanks for a great season!" We were shocked because our tree was paid for and on their property just waiting to be cut! Thankfully, there was a number on the sign and we called it. The farmer just laughed when we told him the story and he couldn't have been happier to meet us to cut down our tree. So we met him, his two teenage daughters and three big dogs on the other side of their property where we trekked through the thigh high snow to the tree.It was tough to locate, but when we did, we had to dig down in the snow just to find the trunk! We ended up dragging the tree through the snow to our truck. It was one of the funniest moments I've ever had and quite a memory for our first Christmas!

  35. I grew up in Alaska. We would cut down the scraggliest, funniest looking trees (the permafrost kept trees in our area pretty small. But we loved those Charlie Brown trees :)

  40. My fiance and I got our first "family" christmas tree last year and we decided to cut one ourselves. With provided dullish saw in hand, we finally chose one after I got lost in the fields of trees and then we completely underestimated how much strength it takes to saw one down! We definitely resorted to pushing. It was lots of fun though.

This year, we are skipping a tree because we're trying to save for a wedding, so winning this would be awesome!

  41. I had the best Christmases growing up! I lived in a log cabin in the woods in a very snowy part of Pennsylvania. Our living room was lofted and every year my dad would scour the county to find the biggest tree we could fit - I think about 16 feet was the norm. Then we would put on Christmas music and decorate it with colored lights (!) and all these old vintage ornaments from my grandma. We'd also string popcorn and cranberry garland. It probably sounds tacky in the blogosphere but it was BEAUTIFUL!!

  47. My great grandmother started a tradition when my mom was a baby of buying one new ornament every christmas for all the girls in the family, so that when they had their own homes and families they would already have a full set of christmas traditions all their own. She, and my mom and grandmother, kept up the tradition with my generation. This will be my first year using the ornaments in my own home (well, small NYC apartment) and I'd love a big tree to hang them on!

  50. Our favorite ornaments are some laser cut wood ornaments we picked up while visiting my husbands family in North/South Dakota while we were dating. We bought them at the Norsk Hostfest, and they are gorgeous on the tree!!!

  51. My dad never let us have a tree so strangely enough my favorite Christmas tree memory is the year my parents got divorced because my mom took me to get our first tree and made sure it was a live one I was 9.

  52. I actually just received the most beautiful ornament in the mail today. Our home's previous owner sent us an ornament with a painting of our house. She received it as a gift years ago, and passed it on to us. It was really special and a nice reminder that there are some really great people in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Our tree features handmade felt ornaments and paper cranes from my teenage years, little doodads my husband and I have picked up on our travels (like a demon keychain from Japan), and a large Monarch butterfly for the top instead of a star :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. My favorite christmas tree memory is decorating our white flocked tree with my moms vintage Santa ornaments And bubble lights when we were growing up.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I remember helping my mom put the "bubblers" on the tree every year. Loved those lights!

  56. Growing up we always had a fake tree, but I desperately longed for a real one. The first year I was married we lived in a tiny apartment but it had high ceilings. So I went out and bought the most beautiful 10 ft tall tree and and loaded it up with so many lights we didn't need to use any lamps for the whole season! It was a bit of an over-do and my husband still teases me about it 16 years later. I've toned down my trees over the years, but I still love the smell and look of a real Christmas tree in the house.

    ReplyDelete
  57. One of my favorite Christmas memories is of my dear Mother's sewing me a new Christmas dress every year when I was a little girl and presenting it to me on Christmas Eve for me to wear....oh gosh...now the tears are falling.....

    ReplyDelete
  58. Being a CA girl it was a thrill to live for a few years in OH with actual seasons! While in OH my favorite Christmas tree memory was actually going with my 12-year-old and friends to a tree farm in the snow to select, cut down, and drag my "perfect" tree to the truck! A few years later I moved back to CA and a special Christmas memory is when my elderly dad said he wanted the two of us to make gingerbread men cookies. He never cooked or baked so this was quite a request. We had the best time and I can still picture him using his cane to get around the kitchen ... oh, how I miss him.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I can still remember my dad being the one to sting all the lights on the tree. It was so exciting waiting for him to finish so we could finally get to hang the ornaments and the tinsel. That was so many years ago but I can almost feel the excitement to this day. It's been years since I've had a real fresh tree and an artificial one just can't compare to the smell, feel & look of one. Thank you for the chance to win such a wonderful Christmas present.

  63. One of the Christmas tree memories that sticks in my mind is the one year my mom was messing with the tree once we got it in the house, and it fell over on her. The wall took most of the impact of the tree, but she was screaming bloody murder because it scared the crap out of her. She was fine once we got the tree secured back in the stand, and we all had a good laugh afterwards.

  65. Xmas memory: The year we had to decorate the fireplace because my parents we're not having the "best time" in their marriage. By the time they got over themselves to go out and get a tree (xmas eve, maybe?) there were no trees to be had. I was the oldest of 3 girls, probably about 10 at the time. I took the lead on decorating our fireplace with lights and garland and a handful of ornaments. Had to have something in the house so Santa new we were expecting him. Writing this now (I'm 53) I can't imagine doing that to my family. Not the best "tree" memory, but we're mostly okay now! Best wishes to you for a very merry with your family. Babies make the holidays a little more work-ful, but a lot more joy-ful!

  66. Every year my family and I would trudge through the woods (and snow usually) to get our tree. It often was much too large and filled up the hallway so you had to go around the other way to get in the living room but it was worth it. Now that I live on my own I would love to win this tree.

  69. My favorite memory is going to pick out a new ornament for our family tree every year. Each kid chose an ornament that was special to them and then my mom saved them all in a box for us when we moved out....a fresh tree to hang them all on would be great.

  70. My favorite memory is not an actual one, but one contrived by my little brother. In elementary, he came home with a story he wrote about his favorite family Christmas tradition where he described our dad holding him up every year to put the angel on top of the tree.... which had never happened, but was a sweet glimpse into his ideal Christmas.

  71. Thank you for the giveaway! My favorite "Christmas something" is an ornament that my father has hung at the base of his tree every year since childhood. It is a glorified pipe cleaner candy cane, which was chewed up and mangled by his boyhood dog. It hangs low every year in memory of that dog, just in case her spirit wants to take another nibble at it.

  72. Very cool idea, especially when things aren't going so well and you have to choose between a tree and food on the table. My family used to go to a Christmas tree farm every year, ride out on their tractor drawn wagon, spend hours walking around, finding that perfect tree, cutting it down and bringing it home. Happiness is the smell of Christmas trees. Good times...Thanks for having this contest. :) Merry Christmas!

  74. What a great giveaway! My mom used to have an advent ornament set that we would hang each night. Over the years the ornaments disappeared or broke, and I'm not sure where the box ended up that held everything, but my sister and I split the remaining ornaments and it's a joy to hang them each year.

  81. Every year we have a live tree and every year I save my favorite ornament for front and center. We don't have a beautifully coordinated, themed tree, but our tree is full of plastic spoon preschool snowmen, popsicles stick stars, vintage glass ornaments from my great-grandmother's tree, etc.. My favorite ornament is a Mrs. Clause- the wooden paint-by-numbers type, that my grandma made for me in the 70's. My grandma was 'bling' before bling was a thing. My Mrs. Clause is wearing a red suit, but her red suit is made entirely of glitter and her cap is lavender...my favorite 8-year-old color. Every time I pull Mrs. Clause out I think of my grandmother and smile!

I loved going to a tree farm to get our family's tree growing up. We did it every year. Somehow the trees always looked perfect in the fields, but when we got home there always seemed to be big hole somewhere;)

  83. I remember one year when I found the HUGEST tree ever and my sweet husband dutifully cut it down and dragged it to the car and tied it on. When we got it home, of course we had to cut many inches off the trunk to make it fit in our living room. That night it fell over and broke several ornaments, some of which had sentimental value but I glued them back together and we put the tree upright again. Than night it fell over again and re-broke the same ornaments. I glued them again and this time husband drove nails in the wall on either side and wired the trunk to the nails. It did not fall again. It was BIG! But oh so beautiful! Loved that tree :)

  84. I remember playing with the manger that sat under my Grandmother's Christmas tree. The manger was wooden with real moss dried all over it, and it made a good scene for my GI Joe's to visit the baby Jesus. The tree was fresh cut, douglas fir, but they always had it sprayed with artificial snow. It was beautiful with the silver and blue decorations and the twinkling white lights.

  86. What a lovely giveaway! When we first started dating, my husband bought me a pretty ornament from Anthropologie for Christmas, since he knew it was my favorite store. Every year since then he buys me a new ornament (all from Anthropologie). Sometimes he picks out something pretty, and sometimes its really quirky- like last year's glittery beetle. I love seeing all of them up on the tree together. This year will be ornament number 9!

I grew up in FL meaning christmas lights wrapped around palm trees, I moved to the midwest about 5 yrs ago and my first christmas out here my friends took me to my first tree farm to cut down my first tree at 25! They let me wander the tree farm looking for just the right tree than I crawled on the ground and started sawing away I had so much fun that day. Although every subsequent year I have just gone to the local boy scouts stand and picked one out as it was way more work than I had ever thought.

We never had enough money and kept using the one my parents bought from JC Penney's at a Black Friday sale in the early 80's until the late '90's when they had enough money (and the tree looked bad enough) to get a live one. It was perfectly snow fluttery but not too chilly in NC and we drove up to the mountains and had a really wonderful family day.

Your fantasy made me giggle! Very well thought out!
When our children were little and my hubby in seminary (we were on a tight budget)....we took our munchkins to the tree farm. They loved running all over searching for the perfect tree for our family room. They loved it even more when their dad let each of them help chop that sucker down and load it onto the top of our van. They squealed and sang the whole way home. Nothing could crack their smiles!

Now they're all in college and still love picking out their tree!

  97. I would love to have a real tree! They smell like Christmas. I just love decorating the tree while watching Elf :)

  98. We would go pick out a live Christmas tree together with my Dad and Brother every before Christmas. We loved picking and choosing to find the perfect high, thickness and shape. Then my Dad would drag it into our 4th floor apartment and me, my brother, Mom (and cat lol) would pick out the favorite ornaments and decorate the tree. When we were little my Mom would let us have our way with it but once we grew older she was trying to keep the tree more and more elegant. And no ornaments hanging from the bottom branches or they would become cat toys!
