Will I tire of orange?

Our shore apartment is getting so close to being finally done post hurricane renovation that I can almost taste the sea air! While we renovated the kitchen and made a few updates to the living room, the bedroom became the dumping ground. Obviously it needs a lot of clearing out and deep cleaning but it also needs a new rug. The walls are dark so I want to keep the rug light and I've been thinking of adding some of the same orange you see in the cane chair and the fish painting into it.

Let's fresh your memory on how it looks now. Ugh.

I found two rugs with a bit of orange on a light background.  This flat weave geometric and this modified honeycomb. The first is about half the price of the second but a lot thinner so not especially plush.

So the question is: Will I tire of orange accents? Anyone sick of their accent color?

  1. Go for it, I have little touches and it goes well with neutral colors and black or dark grey!

  2. I have a large, mostly orange tapestry from Peru, that I never tire of.

  3. I've had bright yellow for a while now and I still love it. The nice thing about accents-- if you get sick of them in a year or two you can switch them out without having to re-do the whole room. I think you'll love it! I'm kinda digin' the second rug for some reason.

    1. I really love the second rug but its more than twice the price so I'm not sure if I love it twice as much.

  4. You may.... but dinnae fas yoursel' hen, as they say in Glasgow! Have it now, and in a few years you may still love it. If you don't, have a change then. Actually I have been toying with the idea of coral pops in my gray bedroom, so obviously you show amazingly good taste!

  5. I think you should go for it. You will almost certainly tire of any accent colour you choose so pick the one you love now and enjoy it!! That said - I wouldn't spend a ton on a rug with the accent colour because of the tire-factor. I love the orange!

  6. The honeycomb rug gets my vote. My accent color is tomato red (which is not always an easy red to find). I'm still in love with it!

  7. My living room accent is orange and I LOVE it. I've had it for several years and never tire of it. I find myself wanting orange in every room. For the rugs, I like that the 1st one is less bold and therefore will probably blend better with everything.

  8. Not sure what you see on your end, but the flat weave is $270 right now and the Mandara (which I like better) is $612...but there's a 50% off code "DROP50" to use, so it's only $306! BAM! Problem solved!

    1. OMG! I thought the 50% was already taken off but you are totally right! Woo-hoo!! Thank you so much for giving me the heads up.

  9. I guess it depends on how affordable your rug will be. If you can afford to replace it if/when you tire of it, go with your gut & get it.

  10. I don't know if you'll get tired of it but I know I LOVE that rug! The right one. Doesn't it almost look red? Maby if you get tired of orange as a accent, you just use red in the rest of the room and it'll read as read; brand new! ;)

  11. Funny - when I looked at the photo, I thought: this room heeds an orange rug.

  12. My son has had bright orange stripes on his wall for 3 years and I love them as much today as I did the day I painted them! I didn't even know I liked orange!

  13. i like the first rug -- think you'll like it longer than the second. get a good quality rug pad under it and it will feel cushy!

I have a very small kitchen and the walls are completely covered by cabinets, appliances and tile backsplash. Due to the 9' almost 10' ceilings I had about 2 feet of "playing space above my cabinets for color. I chose orange and I love it. Most would say that it is a main color scheme , but in actuality it is more of an accent color, I have an open layout , so its a splash of color and I love it. Makes me happy every time I look at it. Its my bold self statement in a house of boys. Have had it over 3 years and am still in love. Orange is just happy and fun
