The Tiniest Kitchen Renovation Mood Board

If you follow me on instagram or facebook, you know I lucked out and found a great play kitchen at a local secondhand shop. Aside from a lot of dirt and a few crayon marks, its in great shape and cost me well less what the raw wood for a DIY version would have.  (I had a vague plan to build my own play kitchen either from scratch like this amazing one from Ana White or a nightstand hack like this yellow baby from bubblestitch but I'm more than happy to skip the build step!)

A dark gray paint like Glidden French Gray or Annie Sloan Charcoal

Since I can skip the messy part, I can go right to the fun step of pimping it out.  It needs paint, a back splash, accessories and storage.  Clearly, I'm far more excited about it than I should be but let's do this!

Ideally I'd like to switch the right hand side door to open down like an oven but I think I might do more damage to it by trying to move the hinges where they aren't supposed to be.

What do you think?  Any other suggestions?

  1. So cute! You could always remove the current right knob and attach a handle horizontally so it looks like an oven tho it still opens as is. Why is it that play kitchens and dollhouses are almost more fun for us than our children ?!?

  2. I think I would go for it with moving the "oven" door…why not? If it doesn't work then put it back where it was? Can't wait to see the pimped out version!! Keep the colors on the darker side or highly washable - lots of mud pies will be made in there!

  4. Just as long as the place where you will be installing the new hinge on the bottom so the door will open out/down is sturdy enough. Otherwise when I retrofitted a drawer that I converted into a door I just installed a piece of wood down the middle, so I could attach hinge arms (totally not what they are called) on that and the other side to where it would open and be supported on the sides. Hope that makes sense, if you want a picture let me know and I can send you one!

    1. Yes, I'd love to see what you did!

The bottom part of the frame is rounded so I'm not sure how to add the hinges there.

  6. Funny - my girlfriend is doing the EXACT same project for her little guy. She has plans laid out to convert the one side over to an oven. She has it detailed out on her blog - inthelittleyellowhouse.blogspot.com
