Kitchen Swoon | The Intern

I love my kitchen.  I really do.  But this kitchen (that is really a movie set so not a fair comparison) built for The Intern is swoon worthy.  No surprise its from the creative team that created the amazing sets in Something's Gotta Give.

Architectural detail? Modern color scheme? Open shelving? Artwork? A play space for kids? Industrial accents? Incorporates antiques? It checks all the boxes!

Pure inspiration here. The only thing that doesn't quite work for me is the location of the fridge - I feel like it might be awkward to cook in with the fridge so far away but that is in the real world, not movie land.

Sidenote: The scouting team for this movie actually came to my house to consider filming here. I almost died of excitement.  Obviously we weren't selected but seeing this amazing space I can see why they decided to forgo a real location and build on a soundstage instead.

What do you think??  I haven't seen the movie yet. Is it worth a watch (interiors notwithstanding)?

  4. That is so cool that your home was a contender! I wonder if it would be a big hassle though... Anyway.. that fireplace is divine! I would love to have a cozy seating area with a fireplace in my kitchen...

  6. I saw the movie and I compared it to "The Devil Wears Prada" only the set decorations were like the outfits....you know what I mean? Loved it! And your house being considered......I would have been crazy with excitement.

  7. That's so exciting that your house was considered. On the downside they would have destroyed your home. When they made The Great Gatsby in Newport (Robert Redford version) I heard the car they used for the movie was ruined.

  8. I'm not down with the open shelving. I know it's a popular trend but I think it's the wrong thing to do unless you are in a commercial kitchen. I like the absence of lots of upper cabinets in a kitchen but not dishes out in the open. yuck

  10. I saw the movie last weekend and thought of your house when they showed all those Brooklyn walkups. How exciting they scouted your house!!

As for the movie, sadly it's probably my least favourite of Nancy Meyers' movies. Her movies are always a bit more subtle, more about the characters, their relationships and somewhat their environments but I found this one a bit slow and too subtle. Great acting by Hathaway and De Niro but the story was a bit flat for me.

  11. I saw them filming this all over Park Slope last year, and I can't wait to see it! Her movies are so fun, just from a design standpoint, and the fact that they considered your house...totally flattering! That kitchen is a dream, too!
