It's been a big hit!
The most popular question we have gotten so far is: Where are you going to store these things? Well thats a great question because they are absolutely huge and heavy and I have absolutely no idea. Anyone local want to volunteer a spot in their basement for these charming guys? All reasonable storage offers will be considered :<div class="blogger-post-footer">You are reading an original post by <a href="http://www.brooklynlimestone.com">Brooklyn Limestone</a>.

Here I am to clear out the cobwebs of this dusty corner of the interwebs to bring you an update. Last fall we moved out of our beach condo and moved down the road into a beach townhouse. (Im still very much living in Brooklyn and I will never leave NYC so no worries there!) It's not quite a proper "BEACH HOUSE" but getting ever so much closer to living my Nancy Meyers / Diane Keaton Something Has Got to Give dreams - at least on the weekends and in New Jersey. Ok maybe it's more Snooki than Diane Keaton but let me have my fantansies!</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9h2XIHUNKV8DfdfMqi7GvUSBumtQSdEtIh3PaMDgiAVipTx09rmqxphYtMaldLkMzR1Lo5ra2DcsZHpjZFT2g8ho02mJvnVKeSO14nH8FQV6vfrpsU8PAQDCZRgXdUrcG7HDGn-DNIL8eUbzjf9-1yDMHF2ewm0Nv3kDdbI6-uZkmzKMYf_w/s2970/9DD6BDA4-5FBA-43DD-85B5-0D60B0C3FFBE.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2970" data-original-width="2970" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9h2XIHUNKV8DfdfMqi7GvUSBumtQSdEtIh3PaMDgiAVipTx09rmqxphYtMaldLkMzR1Lo5ra2DcsZHpjZFT2g8ho02mJvnVKeSO14nH8FQV6vfrpsU8PAQDCZRgXdUrcG7HDGn-DNIL8eUbzjf9-1yDMHF2ewm0Nv3kDdbI6-uZkmzKMYf_w/w640-h640/9DD6BDA4-5FBA-43DD-85B5-0D60B0C3FFBE.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p>While we always planned on making some (ok, a lot of) changes, we thought we could wait a year or two to tackle those. Not going to lie. Im really pleased with how this turned out even with it being just a random collection of pieces I found at big box stores. It really takes this little patio from dead outdoor space to outdoor living space.<div class="blogger-post-footer">You are reading an original post by <a href="http://www.brooklynlimestone.com">Brooklyn Limestone</a>.

It's one of those framed ones that I pined for for years before finally treating myself. I don't know what took me so long. (Oh yea right. I'm cheap.) It's just a regular tv when its on but allows you to leave digital artwork displayed when its off. It's a small difference but just looks so much better than the usual black mirror. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiKJ7-rBgkK9onJGhDp4YR-sC7fgzSPFFKFkQLc95vA5_AMXhmzrBOMsY5c90YjAi5SSYNVes0J_v4zsBtPBAsh8JDVV2m0HSUub6i1GhYH0TODqZDNfAoqqDciXLn_UTLpE5LDrtAAg4Y6aQ2IE3kmCYjQ_PxFWa3PB6tXGmplkqlPzZNA5l8=s16000" width="750" /></div><br /><p>The maker offers an artwork subscription service but it seemed a bit limited (also see cheap point above). I quickly realized its pretty easy to load anything you want on there (albeit not the most intuitive setup) so I got to work to find artwork I enjoyed. I like to change it up with the seasons and holidays. Much to my shock I've had a really hard time finding completely free artwork for the Samsung Frame TV. There are lots of sellers on Etsy charging (which is totally fine and worth it if you are in a rush or don't want to change the artwork 200x a year!) but truly free, no strings attached? Slim pickings!</p><p>So since I just went through the trouble to find some fun Valentine's Day artwork and set it up in the right dimensions for the Frame TV, I thought it would be worth sharing. Just download <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yh7GY3kpjyDxbTVIEbrax1znyVZyWxK9/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">these images </a>to your phone and then use your tv's app to upload them to the artwork section. I think they look best without a matte but feel free to play around with it. You're welcome!<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj6gwwedINNJzQEwYZmw9OGCSXMmGN0DUHqolc01BhJsQOFombj2HXR3Way9HHogWL9JBIFzSW8IQk-SD8kNYpeTqgeO34wthk9mW-hlIEuzS4XIbgu8_pwA4_gypqcdKdF4oE31IXgPfFD1Lvq4dV3VDuxA-5YggOW-h1D3lf5GoPOrE3oomk=s16000" width="750" /></p>
Extra points for anyone who notices my orchids are reblooming. Yes, they do come back!<div class="blogger-post-footer">You are reading an original post by <a href="http://www.brooklynlimestone.com">Brooklyn Limestone</a>.

As lonely and neglected as I've allowed this blog to become I couldn't not share the Halloween decorations. This year's theme is Harry Potter and was directly requested by Agatha. How could I not oblige? Like many of you, we have been home A LOT this year so I've been making little updates along the way. Things I always thought about doing, I've finally made time to get to. I had been lusting after this very specific monochrome wall mural for years. Aside from just liking it's look, it also reminded me of the "relaxation room" in the Four Seasons in Paris. And you know how I am with travel memories.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Av_5tMErgyc/YEKSrWTAMpI/AAAAAAAAveM/pnePTGiL6NUGdSMbrwo5bABwu88mUos8wCPcBGAYYCw/s1000/DiningRoomWallpaper4220210124.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="750" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Av_5tMErgyc/YEKSrWTAMpI/AAAAAAAAveM/pnePTGiL6NUGdSMbrwo5bABwu88mUos8wCPcBGAYYCw/s16000/DiningRoomWallpaper4220210124.jpg" /></a></div><p>Admitedly, I was very reluctant because I am traumatized by my experiences removing wallpaper from other homes. In particular one room that I had to peel off the wallpaper in one centimeter scraps until my fingers were worn down to nubbins. Did not want to ever do that again! But finally I got over my fear and went for it.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fN97gUgLvcc/YEKSreQVNRI/AAAAAAAAveY/5w0QC4fNypYMKfcIH0Pj1k7GfY3cn8FjwCPcBGAYYCw/s1000/DiningRoomWallpaper4320210124.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="750" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fN97gUgLvcc/YEKSreQVNRI/AAAAAAAAveY/5w0QC4fNypYMKfcIH0Pj1k7GfY3cn8FjwCPcBGAYYCw/s16000/DiningRoomWallpaper4320210124.jpg" /></a></div><br /><p>The reviews on this paper indicated it would be easy to DIY but because it was a mural as opposed to a repeating pattern, I knew that if I made even one little mistake or tear to this paper, I would have ruined the entire thing so I hired someone to hang it. I got lucky and found someone great by accident and he did an amazing job (for my local friends, I'm happy to share his info if you need wallpaper hung!). He also told me that if I ever wanted to remove it, it would be very easy to do without damaging the walls.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4VCpOayNFT4/YEKSrUUzjJI/AAAAAAAAveU/l_9NXQbwELoabiakFbC1CCjik01DF0tEwCPcBGAYYCw/s1000/DiningRoomWallpaper4120210124-2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="750" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4VCpOayNFT4/YEKSrUUzjJI/AAAAAAAAveU/l_9NXQbwELoabiakFbC1CCjik01DF0tEwCPcBGAYYCw/s16000/DiningRoomWallpaper4120210124-2.jpg" /></a></div><br /><p>Not gonna lie - I absolutely love it! I know its not for everyone but this is just what this room needed. It just adds so much character and whimsy to this space. I keep walking in here to check it out. Thanks to being at home the last 9 months, I've actually be organizing my heart out all year. So when would be a better time to share my absolute favorite organizational find than now?</p><p>In no particular order, these are my favorite products to get your life in order this year or every other. (If you don't want to read my little story that comes with each item, feel free to just look at the list directly on my Amazon shop <a href="www.amazon.com/shop/brooklynlimestone" target="_blank">here</a>.)</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XCPuPY6bums/X_MlqxJganI/AAAAAAAAva0/1b_AJE-ddXQG21xW25N4Kw_cKd1xKpI6ACNcBGAsYHQ/s1985/Top10OrganizingYouNeedinyouLifeBrooklynLimestone.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1985" data-original-width="750" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XCPuPY6bums/X_MlqxJganI/AAAAAAAAva0/1b_AJE-ddXQG21xW25N4Kw_cKd1xKpI6ACNcBGAsYHQ/s16000/Top10OrganizingYouNeedinyouLifeBrooklynLimestone.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://amzn.to/3b69NAN" target="_blank">Pretty pre-made food labels</a>: I've said it before and I'll say it again, consistently labeling will make anything look bespoke. Take a bunch of recycled jars or boxes and throw some pretty labels on them and watch the magic happen. I made these for myself a while back using my Cricut but it took forever to design and print and weed. If I had known pre-made ones had existed, I would be all over it! If you don't love this font choice, there are loads more to choose from - just search around.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://amzn.to/391hPZ0" target="_blank">Stackable acrylic drawers</a>: These were my hero storage find last year. I used them to organize the chaos that was breeding in my under sink storage areas. They are amazing! Not only does it look so much better having these pretty bins staring back at me, it also makes it a snap to find everything. Now when I need a bandage or a nail polish or a hair tie, I know exactly what drawer they live in. They also help so much in not purchasing more of something you already have but can't find. They can be a bit of an investment but they are worth it! They come in a few different sizes so be sure to measure careful around any existing plumbing to make the most of your space.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://amzn.to/3hNnTZ9" target="_blank">Toiletry Bag</a>: While we haven't actually gone anywhere exciting last year, we did spend a good amount of time at our place at the Jersey shore. Having a good sized toiletry bag already stocked that can hold full sized products as well as all the other little things I carry was perfection! The clear bag makes it easy to find. The little pocket is great for earrings or hair pins. I also tend to leave it right on my sink sometimes - its easy to tuck away when Im cleaning up. (Someone recommended this bag to me last year but I can't remember who! If it's you, thank you!) For $7 its hard to beat this little workhorse.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://amzn.to/38aCOcE" target="_blank">Water Bottle Organizer</a>: Before I got this, I can't tell you how many times I've had a stray water bottle fly off the shelf and try to kill me. Between the kids' school cups, coffee thermos and big water bottles for long park days, we seem to have so many and there isn't a good way to cut down on the number. These organizers hold them all a little cubby so they can stay with their cap and not come flying out or get lost. </div><p><br /></p><p><a href="https://amzn.to/3ocPgy5" target="_blank">Reusable Ziploc Bags</a>: Are we the only ones who go through an insane amount of those plastic throw away bags? They are so handy for just about everything but also super wasteful. These can help with that. While they won't completely replace my need for disposable ones, at least this will cut down on them somewhat. </p><p><br /></p><p><a href="https://amzn.to/392So9B" target="_blank">Baskets</a> <a href="https://amzn.to/3pO8OJO" target="_blank">Baskets</a> <a href="https://amzn.to/2L2N7qz">Baskets</a>: This is the answer to one of the most common questions I get. How do I keep my house tidy even though I have young kids with tons of toys. The answer is simply: baskets. Everything and anything looks better contained. And when it comes to toys, something pretty and texture like these rope baskets are just lovely to look at in any setting. They also make post play clean up a breeze. Kids can easily throw everything into a basket without much assistance. If you don't have kids, they also work really well for blankets, storing throw pillows, laundry, towels and pretty much anything that looks sloppy sitting on the floor.</p><p><br /></p><p><a href="https://amzn.to/3rS8USj" target="_blank">Skincare Organizer</a>: This little 5 compartment storage bin is my personal solution to makeup/skincare products I like to have on my bathroom sink counter without looking like a pile of junk. It holds a surprising amount of stuff but doesn't take up too much room and is easy to clean. When it starts to overflow, I know its time to purge.</p><p><br /></p><p><a href="https://amzn.to/2KQ35Ev" target="_blank">Old School Label Maker:</a> I know I've mentioned this before but its the best 10 bucks I've ever spent on anything organization related. I use it A LOT and I don't really know how I went this far in my life not having one. No need to charge it or download it or find batteries - it at the ready whenever you need it. And each little role of tape lasts a shockingly long time. Great as housewarming gifts too! Everyone needs one.</p><p><br /></p><p><a href="https://amzn.to/3pJKxo7" target="_blank">Silicone Toilet Brush</a>: Okay so maybe this isn't strictly organizational so I'm cheating here but I have to profess my love for a toilet brush somewhere and this seemed like the most logical list for it. First off, it's footprint is TINY - much smaller that the typical toilet brush you probably already own. Second it works just as well if not better. Third its made of silicone so "nothing" sticks to it if you catch my drift. This is the better mousetrap. Get it.</p><p><br /></p><p><a href="https://amzn.to/3rTBFOn" target="_blank">Refrigerator Organizing Bins</a>: Ok this one is definitely in the "nice to have", not "must have" list but if you have been following organizing tik tok or the Kardashians you know that perfectly organized fridges are the hot things to have in 2021. I admit I haven't quite gotten to a point where I would share the content of my fridge with the world but these little containers (they come in lots of different shapes and sizes to suit just about anything you eat so make sure you figure out what you need before ordering) make eating and cooking a visual treat!</p><p><br /></p><p>So there you have it! Do you have any organizational favorites you want to share with me? I'd love to hear all about them!</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><div class="blogger-post-footer">You are reading an original post by <a href="http://www.brooklynlimestone.com">Brooklyn Limestone</a>.

With 7 days to go, we got out healthy so fingers crossed we drag ourselves across the finish line and have a much more positive 2021 waiting for all of us. Without further ado, here is this year's Christmas mail. I included this little snowflake screwdriver tool because I can't be the only one who can never find one when I need it.

I know it's been quiet around here. It just felt so frivious to talk about decor when so much more important things were happening. But Christmas time is here so it was time to get decorating. I've been thinking of making a few changes to my living rooom for a while now so this was the perfect time to make it happen. Come on in!</div><div>
<img src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vm7RlNt56EE/X9oSR67BgDI/AAAAAAAAvZg/gUjwXtjlSDsjkgWEba76XoqQs26zh3SsgCPcBGAYYCw/s16000/0244D7C7-9F24-404A-B993-0BA20FCFE3DF.jpeg" width="700/" /></div><div><br /></div><div>Warning: this post is pretty much a present to myself - things Ive been wanting to do for years but always put it off. Well now is the time people. What are we waiting for?</div><div><br /></div><div>New light fixture, who dis? Yes I finally switched out the big chandy for something more sleek and updated. I'd been lusting over the outrageous expensive RH version for years when I finally found this very similar style from <a href="https://www.mooielight.com/?__cf_chl_jschl_tk__=315720da1f5fb4e3b922c188d48a3ead90c2f829-1608128057-0-AU9wjSfl2DkANPNkZg3muiHOd5ztSBG1Rv-DIw1fpRGkUxk4E710-9VJhKOyuX3weGSt2WTJQ6z6UcUgVM1Isi1LdDxSHhLqzPM4nb6CBF3Syv8aJuPNrv0rjiW4IJPRnTtkBpdAqTnyuOEvdKmt-DhY2EjQ3qt0qiTlreD6FIf1MkOTImHr1gChWqPpvbaqX9rRpSa1kbcWDelyd5QsDjuflH3-0Hl8G0dck3s2z1c1hdfcYdgfp3Xm44EKPFAdLc2j2yJ9s6lHEp5ETHpAtjcKbhaHn0dzQVB1F3Tojg8OAcRMAZMjK5gAI4GuR7Rfrf4Ad6t__e4ewcQfzndIuZEvNhbvL59RtQxGXm5bh1aMjXWfCpxeEo9PrHfnamMuDg" target="_blank">Mooielight</a> and I was sold! I did come with a bit more assembly then I expected but I'm thrilled with how it looks up. While its not an exact dupe it's very close for a LOT less money. (I'll share more about it in another post.)</div><div><br /></div><div>Another new change is this tv area. I finally got the <a href="https://amzn.to/3p1AaM7" target="_blank">"Frame" tv </a>and I'm absolutely enamored! I know its just a tv but ain't she pretty! It hangs tight onto the wall so no unsightly mounts peeking out and will show artwork and photos when not in use. </div><div><br /></div><div>And finally I found this <a href="https://www.shareasale.com/m-pr.cfm?merchantID=47818&userID=1127398&productID=1192672583" target="_blank">wooden mantel shelf</a> that fit perfectly underneath from <a href="https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=488219&u=1127398&m=47818&urllink=&afftrack=" target="_blank">Decor Steals</a>. I originally ordered it thinking it would be great for holiday use but I think it adds some interest to the spot so I might leave it up all year round.

Last but not least the Christmas bling! Most of it I've had a while but a couple of new additions. Like the little snowy tree I painted myself (follow <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@brooklynlimestone/video/6898488348264942854?_d=secCgsIARCbDRgBIAIoARI%2BCjwCxF8iQmJuKkdcM8o6oCtCUGnDrUqLZlfXIDtGeFCxdHkz4SG%2FrA0sBw41IGvj7TVxIdqAebunARf%2F1ggaAA%3D%3D&language=en&sec_uid=MS4wLjABAAAA8C_4evlwTXTS9_0XYi4wiUHTp3ieZwln-1ro1ls_8LOHeIHVlguORmZKhvhmY4-r&sec_user_id=MS4wLjABAAAA8C_4evlwTXTS9_0XYi4wiUHTp3ieZwln-1ro1ls_8LOHeIHVlguORmZKhvhmY4-r&share_author_id=6816432008093762566&share_link_id=60A02B01-78EF-468C-8F44-F4CBCAC407D6&tt_from=copy&u_code=dc10h4jgc30hk4&user_id=6816432008093762566&utm_campaign=client_share&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=copy&source=h5_m&sender_device=pc&sender_web_id=6823056446713677318&is_from_webapp=1" target="_blank">my tik tok</a> for the how to), the <a href="https://www.shareasale.com/m-pr.cfm?merchantID=47818&userID=1127398&productID=1189072013" target="_blank">gingerbread sign</a>, the <a href="https://bit.ly/2WnjwdA" target="_blank">frosted garlands</a>, <a href="https://bit.ly/38ay7OP" target="_blank">lighted snowflakes</a> and <a href="https://amzn.to/3nrHyjc" target="_blank">twinkly curtain lights.</a> In honor of the Rockefeller Tree stowaway owl, I put some of these little owls in the decor this year too. Something only I would notice but no one is coming over anyway so why not?</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Phew thats a lot to take in one post but suffice to say I'm really pleased with how its all came out. The very best holiday (even if the world's worst year). We are still debating about if we should or should not give out candy but that isn't stopping us from decorating and dressing up.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I admit coming up with a theme that works both as decor and fitting for a family of four is getting harder and harder but we found one: <b>Grimms' Fairy Tales. </b></p><p>Specifically we are focusing on Red Riding Hood with a few nods so some other classics thrown in.

Just making some basic signage and the books. A lot of these decorative elements we had already but we did splurge and get some new pieces too this year. Most notably that werewolf that howls and looks right at you when it's plugged in. (Check my insta stories this month for the full effect!)

I know I've been MIA lately but I just couldn't bring myself to post about pretty little projects or decor considering what was going on around me. We are very fortunate to be healthy and safe sheltering at home but the last few months have felt like a decade. Things seem to be improving - albeit at a snails pace - so I'm feeling a bit more myself these days although we have a ways to go.<br />
<br />
<img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WSx4wozG678/XsV_Ap8KqOI/AAAAAAAAu6w/nIj6QYnsmdEnDES0pK2x3hCrKcYOvfH0QCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/PhotobooksBrooklynLimestone120200520.jpg" width="750" /><br />
So one of the few things I've been able to accomplish in this time was catching up on my annual photo books. I love these books - not only because they get our favorite photos and memories of these years out of the digital world and into our hands but also because the kids love to look at them and talk about our fun times. Especially now when we can't do as much - its nice to rehash our favorite trips and holidays.<br />
<br />
I won't lie that a lot of time goes into pouring through all of the year's photos to cull it down to our favorites but it's so worth it!<br />

For those that are curious, I always use Blurb for book printing. Specifically the image wrap hardcovers in 8x10 size with ProLine Pearl Photo Paper. I'm a pretty picky customer about photo printing and paper quality and have always been pleased with the outcome. My only complaint is that they slightly changed their book size at some point so they don't all line up perfectly but its the kind of thing only I would notice.<br />
<br />
They are a little more expensive than some of the bigger companies like Shutterfly but I think their quality is worth the cost. With a discount coupon (or you could use this link to <a href="https://share.blurb.com/x/L9uCAm" target="_blank">save you 30%</a>), the cost isn't so bad.<br />
<br />
<i>For the record, this post isn't sponsored - I just really like their product and have been using them for 10 years so I feel very comfortable recommending them.</i><br />

Imagine it. Brooklyn, sometime in the 1980s. I was just a kid and happened to catch some tv segment about families visiting Finnish Lapland to meet the big guy in red in the "real" North Pole. It looked magical then but our family did not go on vacations no less fancy international ones to play in the snow so I filed it away in the back reaches of my brain. It wasn't until years later that I was bit by the travel bug that I realized this was a real thing that lots of people did. (Mostly Europeans. Lapland is not on the travel map of most Americans - likely due to the distance and general lack of marketing to Americans). I have been waiting for my kids to be old enough to enjoy the experience and it was finally time. Off we headed to Finnish Lapland.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
There are many ways to visit Lapland but we opted for the easy way out - an organized tour. Normally that isn't really our thing but this made the most sense because we wanted to get the most out of the short time we had there (we didn't want to the kids to miss more school than necessary). We ended up going with a company called Canterbury Travel.<br />

Our charter flight left from Gatwick outside of London and off we went flying North to the<br />

Rovaniemi airport. We then drove about 90 minutes to the town of Lusto. We arrived in the evening to a landscape of twinkling snow and settled into our one room log cabin which could not be more charming.<br />

<br />
It had a blazing fireplace, a drying room and a sauna and we used all three as much as we could in the time we had. The tour company arranges snow suits for everyone involved and they kept us very toasty warm. The only problem was getting them on and off 2 wriggly children 10x a day. </div>

There is very little daylight in Lapland which makes photography a challenge but it was beautiful day and night. In our 3 days there we rode in reindeer pulled sleighs, got pulled by husky dogs, played with Santa's elves, met St. Nick and Mrs. Claus, drank lots of hot berry juice, roasted smores, pulled the kids on sleds, made snow men and snow angels and just generally walked around in a winter wonderland. It was a magical trip and I highly recommend it!<br />

While I fully expected to enjoy it, I was surprised just how much I personally enjoyed the outdoor activities. The reindeer farm was a highlight - learning about how the animals are raised and how the farmers care for them was fascinating. Even without Santa's magic, I would gladly return there in a heartbeat to see and do more at a more relaxing pace.<br />
<br />
Sadly we never got a view of the Northern Lights. A good reason as any to return! <br />

<br />
This year we sent out 2 single serving tubes of yummy hot cocoa + marshmallow bits. Just add hot milk and enjoy.<br />
<img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-51uQuq7Mxuo/XfzpfZS8e2I/AAAAAAAAt_I/jW493q9VTfkvBt1bRu3UPmv0vRIz8BKRgCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/ChristmasMail2019HotCocoaCards3201912141.jpg" width="750/" /><br />
This year I totally splurged on the postage but I will warn you postage rates have gone up a lot since the last time I did something bulky like this. We hand delivered a bunch to save some $ but then just bite the bullet on the rest.<br />
<br />
As usual, I designed the card (thank you selfie stick for this year's family portrait) and put Luke to work in helping putting it all together. It's a labor of love for sure. We hope our family and friends enjoy a warm cuppa on us.<br />

Aggie actually chose it so it was an easy sale. I shared a photo of her standing next to it proudly and soooo many people messaged me to say they had this same desk growing up in their bedroom. Not surprising since it was a big seller for years from Sears. It originally sold for $79!<br />
<br />
Obviously I couldn't leave it as it was. <br />
<img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gxcfmpiAs0o/XfecawXD66I/AAAAAAAAt-w/AfcC4bnBRLk34kszt0XoB8yO2imX-_hVgCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/93A26672-1517-4FC6-99AF-2F3AFCBF7182.jpeg" width="750/" /><br />

<br />
A couple of coats of <a href="https://amzn.to/34kqYrm" target="_blank">chalk paint</a>, a little refresh of the hardware and some rainbow stripes for the top. This was exactly the kind of makeover this piece needed to give it a updated look but didn't require much effort. Aggie loves her new desk and it adds some great storage for all that paper that 6 year olds seem to create in their wake.<br />

We threw a Gingerbread Decorating Party for our daughter's 6th birthday and it was a total blast. An insane kid sugar fueled rave kinda blast, but a blast none the less.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
We purchased gingerbread kits from <a href="https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/vintersaga-gingerbread-house-40374295/" target="_blank">Ikea</a> ($4 each) and loads of extra candy. I made the gingerbread houses the night before so they would be set up firmly by the times the kids arrived. I was fully prepared to hot glue them together if my royal icing didn't solidify but thankfully that wasn't necessary.<br />

<br />
Because I'm extra, there were a few little DIY elements to amp up the style. First were the kid sized "OH SNAP" aprons which I whipped up a few days before the party. Second was this fabulous cake made by my sister who clearly gets me. And finally I found a Buddy the Elf costume for Oscar to wear while he ran around and terrorized the guests. I regret nothing!<br />

<br />
It was a crazy party but it was a major hit with my kids so mission accomplished. Perfect for a December birthday girl. Now it's a year later so it's time to get started on this year's birthday bash.<br />

I always promise myself I'll get all my holiday shopping done by end of November (so I can enjoy the holiday fun in December) so it's total crunch time for me. Coming up with thoughtful ideas can be a challenge so it's the perfect time for this year's edition of Favorite Things!<br />
<a href="https://www.320sycamoreblog.com/2019/11/favorite-things-2019.html" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HIF0crIzZ2U/Xcn6EN6OBJI/AAAAAAAAt3s/fE76JzG2HSwRPEEdOdPyEVwdNgwjx7K8QCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/2019%2Bfavorite%2Bthings.jpg" width="750" /></a><br />

<br />
Without further ado, here are my<b> Favorite Things for 2019 Gifts</b> in no particular order.<br />
<br />
<b>1. <a href="https://amzn.to/2pSkvpz" target="_blank">Embossing Label Maker</a> </b>Yes this is that old school clickity-clackety one you might remember from your childhood. I treated myself to one earlier this year and I am labeling EVERYTHING. The best $10 bucks I spent this year, hands down. No batteries, charging cables or downloads - just load in the labels and get to embossing. It's so much fun. Perfect for the organizer (or the wanna be organizer) in your life. Get one for yourself too!<br />
<br />
<b>2. </b><a href="https://amzn.to/2Q8f0xn" target="_blank"><b>Faux Fur Collar</b> </a> Glow up your look and keep cozy warm at the same time. This faux fur collar will take your plain old wool coat to the next level. Comes in lots of fun colors too and is steal. <br />
<br />
<b>3. <a href="https://amzn.to/2X1XFYq" target="_blank">Cordless Vacuum</a> </b> Ok so this one is a splurge but think of how much more enjoyable vacuuming will be without having to run around plugging and unplugging. Ok so this is more of a "gift to yourself" type of thing but sometimes those are the best kind!<br />
<br />
<b>4. <a href="https://amzn.to/2KdRP18" target="_blank">Tiered Tray</a> </b>Trust me on this one, everything looks better on a tray. Just fill it up with whatever you need for your holiday buffets and your guests will ooh and ahh at your decorative prowess. This is also a fun way to gift baked goods as a great hostess gift. Just grab some sweets at your local market and throw a bow on this tray to win guest of the year. If you aren't a tiered tray kind of a person, a great <a href="https://amzn.to/2CyIWef">wooden bowl</a> or <a href="https://amzn.to/2X3XThE">cutting board</a> also does the trick.<br />
<br />
<b>5. <a href="https://amzn.to/2O4vQe7" target="_blank">Thermal Carafes</a> </b>Ok so this isn't the sexiest gift but if you know someone who entertains a lot, they will love you for this! These things are magic. You put hot coffee in and it stays hot all day. Yes, ALL DAY! That might not seem like something you need but it's so helpful to be able to make coffee (or tea or hot cocoa or hot apple cider, whatever) BEFORE guests arrive. It stays hot and doesn't burn. This particular style is especially fun because you can write on the side with chalk to let everyone know what is inside and has that pretty farmhouse feel.<br />
<br />
<b>6. <a href="https://amzn.to/2KaD9je" target="_blank">Wood Letter Board </a></b>These are just fun little adds to your décor. In fairness I do love a good pun so maybe Im biased. I have a felt one as well but it gets a little linty so this wood only board is a better option. Its a fun gift for the person that has everyone.<br />
<br />
That's it! My favorites little gifts for the year. I hope I've sparked some inspiration. If you want more, pop over to some of the other bloggers' playing along in the fun. <br />
A few months ago, I stumbled upon this old baby pram that started me on the idea as a play on our local park, Prospect Park. Of course our version is only for the dead and their leisurely pursuits.<br />
<br />

This park has a mom and dad fussing over baby, a cyclist, a graveyard, spooky plants and of course one angry dog.<img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-klDHLzr4tBs/XZqMI2gsgvI/AAAAAAAAtsI/yupTYed4F5o2pUn4iEg1cfA88a7fQjLUwCPcBGAYYCw/s1600/ProspectDark_BrooklynLimestone2019100612.jpg" width="750" /><br />

<br />
I made the two large tombstones using some scrap wood. One to honor the famous designers of the real Prospect Park and the other to reference our planned family costume, The Addams Family. I usually like to make the décor match our costume more closely but I made an exception this year and just keep the décor in the generally creepy category. I think the Addams family would be happy to spend time in this park, don't you agree?<br />

Especially now with little kids, the storage space we built during our renovation just never seems enough. So when said goodbye to our high chair, that spot seemed like the perfect spot for a small sideboard to hold all those little odds and ends that you need for diner parties.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HUv15pmB3Wg/XYTtORx9GlI/AAAAAAAAtnU/dR6nkvArjgEvJQEDO9FzZbu-mir681kmgCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/NighstandBoard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="865" data-original-width="750" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HUv15pmB3Wg/XYTtORx9GlI/AAAAAAAAtnU/dR6nkvArjgEvJQEDO9FzZbu-mir681kmgCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/NighstandBoard.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The only problem was that spot on the wall was quite narrow so something ready made just did not exist. So instead of a traditional sideboard, I had to get creative with what would fit in that spot.<br />
<br />
<img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RCW33IUjQIM/XYTmhwXa-hI/AAAAAAAAtm0/r-POB08uhfMeaWwOGDReDFJShBJEbbMRQCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/NightstandtoSideboard201909151.jpg" width="750" /><br />
<img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XrHHNvg2yqM/XYTlNJW5iLI/AAAAAAAAtmY/VpsEZMiR7_cgfzV-MO0HHzOd-Cp8rxDtgCEwYBhgL/s1600/NightstandtoSideboard201909152.jpg" width="750" /><br />
Off I went to Lowe's, my go to source for all things DIY. Not surprisingly, they are also a great source of <a href="https://www.lowes.com/c/Storage-organization?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-dcr-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qth-_-how-_-dcr092319" target="_blank">storage and organizational products</a> (I could spend all day just in that aisle alone). They have everything from bins to pegboards to hooks to closet systems so I knew they would have a solution.<br />
<br />
<br />
Turns out a small chest or in this case, this beautiful <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/Scott-Living-Auburn-White-Washed-Natural-Mahogany-Nightstand/1000758654?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-dcr-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qth-_-how-_-dcr092319" target="_blank">Chevron nightstand</a> was the perfect fit. (I was really hoping <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/RST-Brands-Ava-Curved-Chest-of-Drawers-Brown-Ava-Curved-Chest-Of-Drawers-Brown-Pine-3-Drawer-Double-Dresser/1000843918?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-dcr-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qth-_-how-_-dcr092319" target="_blank">this beautiful curved pine chest</a> would fit but alas my wall was too narrow.) Aside from being the exact width I needed and visually lovely, it also has two built-in USB ports on the back which was a total surprise. I can create a nice charging station right here down the road.<br />
<br />
<img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tN__MEIAyLw/XYTm7vdWAwI/AAAAAAAAtm8/kTE20oH8smUEDsxVE6rhRNvOFOUNoDpYwCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/NightstandtoSideboard201909159.jpg" width="750" /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
My first step in turning this nightstand into a dining room storage piece was lining each drawer with shelf paper. I used <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/Duck-20-in-x-6-ft-Grey-Gate-Shelf-Liner/1000258925?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-dcr-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qth-_-how-_-dcr092319" target="_blank">Duck shelf liner</a> in their 'Grey Gate' pattern - one roll was more than enough. Aside from just looking a little cuter, the plastic lining helps things stay in place when opening and closing the drawers. Once that was in place I turned to my new obsession; <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/Lipper-International-15-in-x-6-in-Bamboo-Multi-Use-Insert-Drawer-Organizer/50252975?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-dcr-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qth-_-how-_-dcr092319" rel="" target="_blank">bamboo drawer organizers</a>. Specifically I used these three sizes: <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/Lipper-International-9-in-x-6-in-Bamboo-Multi-Use-Insert-Drawer-Organizer/50253149?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-dcr-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qth-_-how-_-dcr092319" target="_blank">15x6 </a>, <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/Lipper-International-9-in-x-3-in-Bamboo-Multi-Use-Insert-Drawer-Organizer/50188139?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-dcr-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qth-_-how-_-dcr092319" target="_blank">9x3</a> and <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/Lipper-International-9-in-x-6-in-Bamboo-Multi-Use-Insert-Drawer-Organizer/50253149?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-dcr-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qth-_-how-_-dcr092319" target="_blank">9x6.</a> They turned this open drawer into a custom space for every little small item I use for dinner parties including fancy cutlery, cheese markers, votives, napkin rings, appetizer knives and a corkscrew. The stackable nature of these trays makes the most of every inch. It also makes finding these items and putting them away a breeze. The only problem with them is once you get a few, you will want to fill every drawer in your house with them. It's completely addictive.<br />
<br />
<img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wXyCLX-jeAs/XYTlPh06KRI/AAAAAAAAtmg/vHUyvFSIvhUOTh1MvXZGUws7f9QEPb5XgCEwYBhgL/s640/NightstandtoSideboard201909157.jpg" width="375" /><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jRbIdA-r-Ic/XYTlP4UId4I/AAAAAAAAtmo/FTc61w6_-TQqcJxcUqqX6cyRWJOuhc5gwCEwYBhgL/s640/NightstandtoSideboard201909158.jpg" width="375" /><br />
<br />
The second drawer I used for my linens and placemats as well as some of my favorite wood slice trays. Amazing what can fit into a tiny space when well organized. I thought I might need some of these <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/Style-Selections-22-1-4-in-x-5-8-in-Bamboo-Multi-Use-Insert-Drawer-Organizer/3338480?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-dcr-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qth-_-how-_-dcr092319" target="_blank">drawer dividers</a> (which I'm also obsessed with) but everything fit perfectly without me lifting a finger so score!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
And finally I saved the third drawer for appetizer plates and serving dishes. Things I didn't use everyday but wanted to have easy reach to. I could have stuffed this drawer with a lot more but by purging a bit, I was able to store my favorites safely and with plenty of space. The shelf paper really helps here keeping each little dish in their place without any extra effort.<br />

Even though this chest is relatively small, it has made setting up for guests so much easier and has freed up some precious room in my cabinets that help me stay organized day to day.<br />

It's small yet full of life, charming in the most authentic way, has amazing food and drink and is just lovely all around.<br />
<img border="0" data-original-height="499" data-original-width="750" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VCLJTn0WZJY/XW0h_bQczUI/AAAAAAAAtdQ/j0s40fg4IDQJOg_WTY81IdwE5nInZBYlQCLcBGAs/s1600/LondonLisbonwithKidsBrooklynLimestone.jpg" /><br />
We had been avoiding Lisbon because of the steep hills and narrow sidewalks - both which are not especially stroller friendly - until our youngest was old enough to take at least short walks without one. So that time had come and off we went.<br />
<br />
Let me start by saying this city is such a visual feast. There is something beautiful to look at everywhere you turn. It's also highly walkable which is a nice bonus on a short trip when you don't really want to have to learn the local public transit system.<br />
<br />
One of the best decisions we made on this trip was staying at an apartment hotel that had a kid's club. We weren't sure just how it was going to go but it was so wonderful to be able to drop the kids off for a few hours and have a nice dinner date or even just a walk around. I found this hotel, the Martinhal Chiado Suites via <a href="https://www.booking.com/s/52_6/f6bac7e7">booking.com</a> and it totally made our trip one of the most relaxing we've ever done since having kids. Aside from a spacious apartment in the heart of the city, the hotel leaves a few basics for you when you arrive (milk, juice, biscuits, etc) and was super flexible and accommodating to our changing schedule. Highly recommend this place!<br />
<br />
<img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5gyd3R8LFSc/XW0cxU3sxsI/AAAAAAAAtcs/ntQ9DWINODg68MHQQgfrgxWJ4IwGs3QsACEwYBhgL/s1600/LondonLisbon2019042580.jpg" width="750" /><br />
<br />
Moving on from where we stayed, we spent a lot of time walking the city and exploring all of the different neighborhoods both with our feet and our mouthes! Lisbon is a city for eating. The seafood alone! We ate at several great restaurants but the food tour we took (booked a bit randomly at the last minute via tripadvisor) was completely fabulous. If you are going to Lisbon book with <a href="https://treasuresoflisboa.com/">Treasures of Lisboa</a> and you can thank me later. The guide is the owner and we really enjoyed the food and the company. We didn't take the kids (thank you again kids' club) but we totally could have as it was family friendly. Some of the other food related highlights were the Time Out Market (about 5 minutes away from our hotel), Taberna da Rua das Flores (a block from the hotel) and A Cevicheria. Although I think I would be hard pressed to have a bad meal in Lisbon.<br />

<br />
While we generally avoid the big tourist sites because I'm just not that kind of traveler, we took a short tram ride over to see the Belem Tower. It is beautiful but the lines were insane so we admired from outside which is totally fine with me. Instead I tried my first e-scooter ride and let's just say I'm lucky to make it out alive. I'll stick with my feet for the near future.<br />

<br />
Not quite as popular with tourists but closer to the city center and fascinating just the same was the <a href="https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/carmo-convent-ruins">Carmo Convent </a>- an interesting architectural site with some interesting artifacts inside. I took Aggie with me while Oscar napped and it was the perfect bite sized attraction for a 6 year old.<br />

It's such a personal decision and I believe you should really love the artwork hanging in your home so it's hard to make recommendations without knowing a person's style. But I can suggest some great pieces of art by artists I admire and that's what this post is all about. Each one of these is original and affordable so they are the perfect way to start dressing those endless empty walls.<br />

You know I can't resist a good creepy painting.<br />

Many a green thing has come under my care only to shrivel and die shortly thereafter. My alibis have been weak, my victims have been many.<br />
<img border="0" data-original-height="1065" data-original-width="1600" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nc5gJAKn4D4/XRYNJQnyOlI/AAAAAAAAr_M/i4Z4lGijU3sPoWOz2b3SFeA1t6c1r_u_wCLcBGAs/s1600/StoopJungle20190623.jpg" width="750" /><br />
<br />
But I'm turning over a new leaf lately. I've gotten much better with plants as I've learned to pick the right ones for my style. I forsaken big showy flowers for colorful leafy varieties that can last with a more neglectful owner like me. And when arranged in the right way, they look just as lovely and showy without the extra effort.<br />
<img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1065" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4xmNg46Gvhs/XRYNGwgS6FI/AAAAAAAAr-U/QzZcXAAKVG0zcVm-Quj5_o6cSaDB9Qo8ACEwYBhgL/s1600/StoopJungle20190623-19.jpg" width="750/" /><br />
<br />
So project Stoop Jungle was born. The entryway needed some curb appeal. The front stoop is all concrete so container gardens were the name of the game. Instead of my usual tactic of putting a few small plants near the door and letting them grow to full size just in time for the them to die when the weather turned chilly, I am trying a new tactic. Filling the containers with beautiful plants so we can enjoy the whole season. No need to wait until they get bigger because they are lush and lovely right now! I also mixed and matched traditionally indoor house plants out here as well which add a lot of height and fullness. When the season is over, I can move them indoors to continue to enjoy them all year. And much to my shock (how did I not know this?) indoor house plants are affordable despite their size so they really make the budget stretch farther.<br />

<img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1065" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Y610rRYQZiA/XRYNGG7m71I/AAAAAAAAr_Y/ipzSPNr8a8wDqbx2YRJDb4P3lO9nhBXLwCEwYBhgL/s640/StoopJungle20190623-14.jpg" width="375" /><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1065" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CMqgD0lf_dc/XRYNHm8cYdI/AAAAAAAAr_o/5FaO7aQrMS4GwClapFfIuKshelbhehCKgCEwYBhgL/s640/StoopJungle20190623-22.jpg" width="375" /><br />
<br />
<br />
I'm loving these green ceramic (and frost resistant) <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/allen-roth-7-68-in-W-x-7-28-in-H-Ceramic-Round-Planter/1000372193?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qtw-_-inp-_-crb062519" target="_blank">planters</a> which really look beautiful with any plant and come in small and large sizes. They worked beautifully with these <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/Garden-Treasures-13-31-in-W-x-11-61-in-H-Beige-Resin-Planter/1000370313?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qtw-_-inp-_-crb062519" target="_blank">lightweight resin planters</a> I used for the other plants. I used <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/Miracle-Gro-25-Quart-Organic-Potting-Soil-Mix/1000702612?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qtw-_-inp-_-crb062519" target="_blank">Miracle-Gro Performance Organics</a> which is specially made for container gardens and hopefully will give these plants the best start. Of course, Aggie was eager to lend a helping hand.<br />

<br />
For color scheme I stuck with blues, reds, purples and of course greens. I got so many good plants including <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/Monrovia-1-Quart-Blue-Lobelia-in-Pot-L9900/1000773640?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qtw-_-inp-_-crb062519" target="_blank">Lobelia</a>, <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/2-5-Quart-Red-Dragon-s-Breath-Celosia-in-Pot-L27630/1000149939?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qtw-_-inp-_-crb062519" target="_blank">Dragon's Breath Celosia</a>, <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/2-Gallon-Alocasia-Elephant-Ear-Accent-Shrub-in-Pot-L14843/4307791?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qtw-_-inp-_-crb062519" target="_blank">Elephant Ear,</a> <a href="https://www.lowes.com/search?searchTerm=sedum?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qtw-_-inp-_-crb062519" target="_blank">Sedum</a>, <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/Monrovia-2-5-Quart-in-Pot-Veronica-L11512/1000793310?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qtw-_-inp-_-crb062519" target="_blank">Veronica</a> and <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/Plants-of-Steel-1-5-Gallon-Sansevieria-in-Plastic-Pot-L20970hp/4779743?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_-sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qtw-_-inp-_-crb062519" target="_blank">Sanseveria</a>.<br />

When I got home, my front yard looked like I was about to kick off a plant sale. But once I got to mixing and matching the plants and laying the planters on my front steps, it all came together. A few hours of sweating in the sun and the stoop jungle was born. Now all I have to do is water it and enjoy!<br />

I love a good firepit so I was happy to help a friend design a patio built around a DIY firepit that is perfect for entertaining with a little help from my friends at Lowe's.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.lowes.com/pl/Save-Now/4294594589?int_cmp=Home:A:GlobalMessage:Corp:FW15_Memorial_Day_Starts_Now?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank"><img alt="diy firepit and armless chairs on stone patio" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ygb1WhNKQDo/XOVF4bk1TkI/AAAAAAAAr10/nqnjJZuse9IWRAc_RK4oeNpFTcM6wXocgCPcBGAYYCw/s1600/TaliFirepitPatioforLowesBrooklynLimestone20190519-6.jpg" title="firepit patio makeover" width="750/" /></a><br />
<br />
The existing stone patio was the ideal spot to build upon starting with this very straightforward concrete firepit kit. Simply stack the flagstones and set the fire ring inside and you are ready for s'mores!<br />
<b>Material used: <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/43-5-in-W-x-43-5-in-L-Ashland-Concrete-Firepit-Kit/4686367?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank">Ashland Firepit Kit</a></b><br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.lowes.com/pl/Save-Now/4294594589?int_cmp=Home:A:GlobalMessage:Corp:FW15_Memorial_Day_Starts_Now?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank"><img alt="diy outdoor pipe table" border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-96rqM3lm-kw/XOVF399UQLI/AAAAAAAAr1o/MoCxxepht5UTGn2HCR5GzgIy4qx5Gq9rACPcBGAYYCw/s1600/TaliFirepitPatioforLowesBrooklynLimestone20190519-3.jpg" title="outdoor pipe table" width="750/" /></a><a href="https://www.lowes.com/pl/Save-Now/4294594589?int_cmp=Home:A:GlobalMessage:Corp:FW15_Memorial_Day_Starts_Now?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank"><img alt="Succulents in red lantern" border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pbYrBm-fZOc/XOVF0xl6ZbI/AAAAAAAAr04/oaSeYg4h3TMxZ1MjKInQnmhMExb84x6-QCPcBGAYYCw/s640/TaliFirepitPatioforLowesBrooklynLimestone20190519-12.jpg" title="Red Lantern as planter" width="375" /></a><a href="https://www.lowes.com/pl/Save-Now/4294594589?int_cmp=Home:A:GlobalMessage:Corp:FW15_Memorial_Day_Starts_Now?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank"><img alt="Watermelon pillow on outdoor chair" border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JPf0rg8odac/XOVF4rY0-FI/AAAAAAAAr14/J9jC6K7x8Vcu2C_sqtdmHuphve6JWEXPwCPcBGAYYCw/s640/TaliFirepitPatioforLowesBrooklynLimestone20190519-7.jpg" title="Outdoor conversation area" width="375" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Next up was creating a very long and affordable outdoor table with lumber, pipe and pipe fittings. Another simple project that can be done without the need for many special tools or skills. It's a great fit right against the stone retaining wall and holds a ton while still not being too precious for outdoor use.<br />

<br />
<a href="https://www.lowes.com/pl/Save-Now/4294594589?int_cmp=Home:A:GlobalMessage:Corp:FW15_Memorial_Day_Starts_Now?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank"><img alt="filler spiller and thriller container planter" border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9DQ_9-ZXtc4/XOVF1xqcA3I/AAAAAAAAr1I/dABd9Drrwj0_ESuafD85pclHvMuyICWPwCPcBGAYYCw/s640/TaliFirepitPatioforLowesBrooklynLimestone20190519-14.jpg" title="concrete planter on patio" width="375" /></a><img alt="do it yourself outdoor table and firepit patio" border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PSaj2TA7Znw/XOVF0-8dBvI/AAAAAAAAr08/whm-lcfGlBIw30GVEl2A1xyCPPj-C1DOgCPcBGAYYCw/s640/TaliFirepitPatioforLowesBrooklynLimestone20190519-11.jpg" title="diy outdoor table" width="375" /><a href="https://www.lowes.com/pl/Save-Now/4294594589?int_cmp=Home:A:GlobalMessage:Corp:FW15_Memorial_Day_Starts_Now?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank"><img alt="plants armless chairs firepit" border="0" data-original-height="1065" data-original-width="1600" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WDIckFNbPmQ/XOVF1GwcAuI/AAAAAAAAr1A/WJYnLQeX3GoIpIGYhMgt2qP2bwn15Br3wCPcBGAYYCw/s1600/TaliFirepitPatioforLowesBrooklynLimestone20190519-10.jpg" title="philedendron on patio" width="750/" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Next up was seating. Instead of purchasing individual chairs, we used an armless sectional and broke up the pieces rather than using them next to each other. It's a great way to get a cozy, cohesive look while still being super flexible when you are changing the layout for different events. We also created a few other seating areas at the edges of the patio to give some different conversation spots using accent chairs. <br />
<b>Materials used: The <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/allen-roth-Sea-Palm-6-Piece-Aluminum-Frame-Patio-Conversation-Set-with-Beige-Cushions/1000212857?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank">Allen + Roth Sea Palm 6 piece sectional</a> we used is sold out but their <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/allen-roth-Altadena-Wicker-Steel-Conversation-Chair-with-Tan-Sunbrella-Cushions/1000365613?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank">Altadena collection</a> is a very similar style. Alternatively these <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/allen-roth-Bellmare-Set-of-2-Woven-Steel-Conversation-Chairs-with-Blue-Cushions/1000365145?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank">Bellmare chairs</a> or the this <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/Garden-Treasures-Greenway-5-piece-Steel-Frame-Patio-Conversation-Set-with-Cushions/1000307541?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank">outdoor sectional</a> would have also worked well separated.) <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/Garden-Treasures-Garden-Treasures-Tucker-Bend-Brown-Steel-Stackable-Patio-Conversation-Chair/50063479?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank">Tucker Bend Conversation Chair</a> for the extra seating.</b><br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.lowes.com/pl/Save-Now/4294594589?int_cmp=Home:A:GlobalMessage:Corp:FW15_Memorial_Day_Starts_Now?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank"><img alt="succulent firepit patio" border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-m6_DRj1MSEo/XOVF3YU-w3I/AAAAAAAAr1g/21PCekxtITcNr3OWep5eLMHDIEpSCPxaACPcBGAYYCw/s1600/TaliFirepitPatioforLowesBrooklynLimestone20190519-20.jpg" title="firepit in use " width="750/" /></a><br />
<br />
Along with the seating we needed a few side tables that would hold drinks and plants to fill out the space. These also make great additional seating as stools when needed. <br />
<b>Materials used: <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/allen-roth-19-4-in-White-Indoor-Outdoor-Round-Steel-Plant-Stand/999979160?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank">Allen + Roth Steel Plant Stand</a> and <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/allen-roth-20-47-in-Faux-Cement-Indoor-Outdoor-Plant-Stand/1000714712?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank">Faux Cement Plant Stand</a></b><br />

<br />
After the large items were placed we added a few accessories give some color and personality. Three bright red lanterns to added some color to the table spread. And finally a few colorful pillows to accent the seating.<br />
<b>Materials used: <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/allen-roth-9-in-x-19-3-in-Red-Powder-Coated-Metal-Pillar-Candle-Outdoor-Decorative-Lantern/1000372205?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank">Allen + Roth Red Outdoor Lanterns</a>, <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/Graphic-Print-Yellow-Rectangular-Lumbar-Pillow/1000712250?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank">Watermelon Lumbar Pillows</a>, <a href="https://www.lowes.com/pd/Garden-Treasures-Solid-Colorblock-Finch-Green-Square-Throw-Pillow/1000709814?cm_mmc=inf-_-c-_-prd-_sol-_-ldy-_-broo-_-blg-_-qon-_-how-_-pat052109" target="_blank">Green Square Throw Pillows,</a></b> <br />
<br />
<img alt="firepit chairs plants" border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WBctmfY-j_4/XOVF2_7Er1I/AAAAAAAAr1Y/pEJwH-M1d8AjLiwLPWsuPo8Lw4Ntd2ScgCPcBGAYYCw/s1600/TaliFirepitPatioforLowesBrooklynLimestone20190519-18.jpg" title="Firepit patio" width="750/" /><br />
<br />
<br />
The last step was adding personality to bring the patio to life. I fell in love with some cement planters (that are insanely heavy) and we reutilized some of the planters she already owned. We went crazy in the garden center filling our cart with plants that would do well in this sunny spot.<br />

Lucky for us, Lowe's had everything we needed to complete this project with a little planning, a little elbow grease and one busy installation day. I'm so pleased with the result and hope my friend and her family will get lots of happy memories in this space.<br />

Now that I'm a mom of two kids who seem to live on the floor, keeping it clean is especially important around here. We take care not to track in extra dirt by taking our shoes off at the door and generally trying to keep food contained but there seems to be a never ending trail of dirt when it comes to little kids no matter how how we try. Add that to the complexity of having an older home with especially delicate floors, finding the right solution can be tricky. We need something that gets the job done quickly and effectively but won't harm our sensitive 100+ year old parquet. Enter <a href="http://spr.ly/BrooklynLimestone" target="_blank">Swiffer WetJet</a>. <br />

<br />
Setup is super fast. Simply put the pad on the <a href="http://spr.ly/BrooklynLimestone" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Swiffer WetJet</a> and insert the cleaning solution bottle. This tool lets you clean an entire floor in a matter of minutes (perfect for naptime bursts of cleaning energy). The mist is quite fine and directed so it avoids getting any overspray on nearby rugs, furniture or baseboards. A little goes a long way - moistening but not saturating the floor (compared to how a mop would.) Keeping the moisture to a minimum is so important to prolonging the life of these floors so that's a huge plus.<br />
<br />
<br />
<img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GHatDdwfS6I/XJfcin6PteI/AAAAAAAAq_A/fJkH_SAZKe8YyPCRzm0nMsoErtdh0jnbgCLcBGAs/s1600/SwifferWetJetBrooklynLimestone20190324-16.jpg" width="750" /><br />
<br />
The result is streak free, clean floors without any of the hassle of carrying around a mop and bucket. The best part is the disposal. Just pull the pad off and drop in the trash. No wringing or sloshing around dirty water buckets required. And because the moisture level is so low, the floors dry very quickly.<br />

<img border="0" data-original-height="1065" data-original-width="1600" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1vFIjlUl2cA/XLnkKGauGGI/AAAAAAAArZs/7HoBIvFE0o0OIoQ5qRDuItiqlZwc4uggwCLcBGAs/s1600/KatesApartmentMakeover20190413-6.jpg" width="750/" /><br />
The space was small but also had to serve lots of purposes. Aside from the usual sleeping and lounging area, she also needed to make room for a proper desk area (Kate works from home) and a dining space for the occasional dinner guest. Oh and did I mention storage? She has a great walk in closet but a studio apartment always needs lots of places to store the odd bits and bobs.<br />
<img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1065" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Yp5RHw9mLe4/XLnkKG4FhpI/AAAAAAAArZk/XMQlO7kn23oomTPOwKmYjZfIAXVE_dT5QCLcBGAs/s640/KatesApartmentMakeover20190413-5.jpg" width="375" /><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1065" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IOaH4FdWNEg/XLnkEZ4Y8EI/AAAAAAAArYA/jio6NSvejdc6XuSwBt6WhsRrznmP3C8vwCLcBGAs/s640/KatesApartmentMakeover20190413-10.jpg" width="375" /><br />
<br />
<br />
So we tackled the desk/storage problem first by coming up with a affordable desk hack using ready made pieces. Ikea to the rescue here with 3 of their Nordli dressers and a countertop. The left side serves as entertainment center and the right hand side serves as a working area. Those drawers added lots of valuable storage space without any visual clutter. It meant sacrificing a few more inches of depth in the lounge space but it was worth it. The morale of the story here is not to be afraid of large pieces even in small spaces when they make sense.<br />
<br />

<img border="0" data-original-height="1065" data-original-width="1600" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vYUJz8F6gVg/XLnkIh996UI/AAAAAAAArZM/_JK9t9RporANHk9s4URTXgfGvn3c5k8ygCLcBGAs/s1600/KatesApartmentMakeover20190413-3.jpg" width="750/" /><br />
<br />
She already owned the perfect leather loveseat sofa which just so happened to be exactly the right size to sit up against the largest KALLAX bookshelf that not only serves as a room divider but also is a storage beast. The bottom 3 rows of shelves house large black bins to hide lots and the top two rows are great display areas while still allowing light from both sides.<br />
<br />
<img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1065" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FNMqamOJgzk/XLnkJVCAGcI/AAAAAAAArZY/WmSXMHDDYY45I-nigJ7iYeSG9y7eW6wygCLcBGAs/s640/KatesApartmentMakeover20190413-32.jpg" width="375" /><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1065" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nCWtM9viVh4/XLnkE_pgdiI/AAAAAAAArYE/7ZA6pT1A72MZqaoDoTpofvzPu15PPki_ACLcBGAs/s640/KatesApartmentMakeover20190413-13.jpg" width="375" /><br />
<br />
The lounge area needed a 8x8 rug to define the space and provide a cozy spot to hang. A small scale marble coffee table is easy to push out of the way when you need to room to stretch out (or to blow up a mattress when a friend crashes at your place). Finishing up the room are picture ledge shelves which balance out the tv as well as provide Kate a spot to change up the artwork as much as she likes.<br />
<img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1065" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bvlZNmtT3U8/XLnkKPW6PMI/AAAAAAAArZo/4L7dkgcjX3MZTZqEYBfvdXFMNHMVVjNCQCLcBGAs/s1600/KatesApartmentMakeover20190413-4.jpg" width="750/" /><br />

<br />
On to the rest of the apartment. Her entryway is nice and spacious which allowed her to add this hallstand to store coats, bags and shoes that are used often. A small gatefold table paired with modern leather chairs is a great spot for having morning coffee alone, serving appetizers to a group or enjoying a sit down meal for two.<br />

<br />
And last but not least the sleeping area didn't need much with the painted wall. Lots of soft bedding and a small end table did the job.<br />

<br />
While shore on square footage, this space is long on style. It feels stylish and put together - just like the charming woman who lives there! I couldn't be more pleased with how it all turned out. Hope you can take away some tips on outfitting your own small spaces.<br />
