I see dead people.

Despite several unrelated emergencies on Friday that necesited some projects be cut from my to-do list, the party did in fact happen and I hope our guests had fun. As expected we had loads of trick or treaters and passserbys that got to enjoy the decorations too.

I don't go too overboard on the interior decor - I would have liked to do a bit more but ran out of time. I did a few little things like dress up the mirror, mask some of our paintings, light some candles and of course play some spooky music.

I serve mostly normal food but I made a few Halloween treats to sprinkle in the spread.

Witches fingers and eyeball caprese were borrowed ideas. Bloody panna clottas and blue blood punch were my own creations. I think everything looked and tasted pretty good but I have to be honest - not many were brave enough to eat them. Not sure why - maybe they were just too gruesome to eat? Yea, thats the ticket.

Finally it was time to race into our get ups. Then we had an impromptu photoshoot on the stoop.

As you can tell, we decided to go with a more conceptual costume this year than specific characters. While the result ended up looking like a cross between Sweeney Todd/Mrs.Lovett and the Thénardiers (the characters in Les Mis who sing Master of the House) - the plan was just to be a play on Victorian ghosts haunting the house. Whatever people thought we were, I was happy with how it all looked. Its always fun to dress up. Fun fact: We had our costumes made by someone on etsy.

I don't want to post photos of our guests out of respect for the privacy but we had some great characters join us including a family of swiss yodelers, a toddler disco king, michael meyers, snow white, a pirate, charlie brown & lucy and few other gems. But the stars of the show were definitely the hindu gods Ganesh and Kali.

As a result of the funny looking people inside our gate as well as the decor, our house was pretty popular with the kids and adults.

Some people even wanted to take photos with us and/or our guests.

The day went by in a flash. By the time the candles were burning low, everyone had come down off their sugar high and it was time to wrap it up. Til next year!

Now that Halloween is over, its time to start thinking about sugarplum fairies and jolly St. Nick!

  6. Very cool! I love your decorations - esp. the exterior of your home! That food looked great too, I don't know why people wouldn't want to eat it!

I was thinking you looked like Sweeny Todd characters b/c that is what the host and hostess of the Halloween party we went to this year were.

  8. Wow it looks like quite the party! Your costumes were great! I would have wanted a picture with you, too! I love what you did with the painting - very cute with just the right amount of spookiness! It's sad that we have to wait a whole year for the next Halloween.

  12. Every time I throw a party, there are a good 3-4 things that I wanted to do that get crossed off the list at the last minute, so I understand that frustration. But I can't imagine your party being any more fabulous! Everything looks great! I'm sure your guests had a fantastic time.

Love the masks over the photos idea!

  21. This looks absolutely fantastic! I've never really been one for Halloween parties, because in my age group they tend to be just an excuse to dress hoochy and drink too much, and that's no longer as appealing to me as it once was. But something like this? Hell, I would buy a ticket to attend this fete!

  26. Wow!! It turned out great, and those witch's fingers treats were indeed gruesome.

I used your "City of Boston" toe tags for our Halloween party invitations, and everyone loved them and commented on how unique they were. Of course I gave you full credit. :) I meant to take a picture of them before they were sent.

  37. If I were you, I'd keep this stuff up all year long, it looks soooo good. I'm in love with the big candleabra (sp?) and the whole tablescape in general. And the costumes? Perfect. We had a Sweeney Todd & Mrs. Lovett at one of our parties too, such a fun costume and yours definitely reminds me of it.

This was the best! Loved everything inside and out. The costumes are just fantastic, your husband looks like one of those odd characters that walks with a limp and lives somewhere in the basement of an old mansion in an old movie.

  39. Yea! I was hoping you would show some peeks, thank you!!!
