Little Room Refreshed: Card Catalog + Display Boxes

So here we have it. The little room with an updated look. Its quite a difficult room to photograph since its so er, cozy, but I'm so happy to finally be able to use the card catalog now that its in place. Hooray for tiny cubby holes.

I didn't realize it when I laid them down the first time but those FLOR tiles were awesome since I was able to rearrange them to fit with the smaller work table really easily. A normal rug would have had to be changed. So that was a big bonus.

As usual, I'm not quite done. First, my love of empty frames evidently does know bounds because I think I'm going to add a chalkboard inside just for fun. Second issue is I'm not convinced about the photo mobile. Might have to chuck it. Thoughts?

Other than that, I'm really pleased with the update. I'm not usually one for changing up something that works but a gifted card catalog demanded action. It sounds kind of crazy but this room is like my secret garden. Something unexpected with a personality of its own.

What do you think?

If you are new here, go take a look at this rooms before photos here, details on the door turned desk, flor rug, window treatment and diy display boxes.

  2. As a library cataloger, I'm so jealous of that card catalog. The camera displays turned out nicely. I like the photo mobile, but it might be just one thing too many in that cozy space you have.

LOVE the card catalog!  What font did you use to print the labels on it?  Fantastic.  Hard to tell about the mobile from the picture because it almost blends in to the room.  I guess it would depend how it feels in person.

  8. Beautiful! I am seriously lusting after that card catalog. I also love the cameras and the frame, and it makes sense that since it's a work space you would make it into a blackboard or pinboard. I'm not wild about the photo mobile simple because I have a similar work area, and it would drive me crazy and distract me. But that's just me.

So glad you finally posted the pics! It's been driving me crazy imagining what it looked like as a whole. Great job.

  13. I love the card catalog. I like the photo mobile too but I think it's something I'd get tired of quickly - maybe because it's a little chaotic to me? It might be something fun to hang once a year to celebrate a holiday like Christmas pictures at Christmas or ann. pictures on your ann.

  17. Oh my, the card catalog!  One of my decor "fantasies" is to walk into a thrift shop when a card catalog is being brought in, and I'm the first customer to see it.  Dream on!

  21. Love the refresh!  I think chalkboard for the empty frame is a great idea (and functional too!).  I like the idea of the photo mobile but I think it needs more presence/weight, if that makes sense (although maybe it's just hard to photograph). I love how you've labeled the card catalog drawers - such pretty font. I always wondered how folks used these in their homes (such tiny drawers) but crafting, etc. supplies is genius.

  22. The card catalog is certainly an interesting and unique piece.  One doesn't often find that in a home.  I love it.  If I had the room, I would totally use it for my beaded jewelry supplies and perhaps even to store my finished pieces.  I hope you don't mind my saying but I noticed that you posted about the card catalog a year ago and now you have posted about it finding its home in the little room which is (almost) completed.  That makes me feel better that I'm not the only one that has projects that take a long time to finish.  I'm not really sure about the photo mobile, it looks a little haphazard in the picture above (not sure that is the right word).  What about something more like a swag or vertical using wire/cable.

  23. I have to add.  I just noticed the window treatmen you have in there. It looks like one of those old stamped envelopes that you would send from overseas or something.  Where did you get that?  So cool!

The room is so cozy and great I like it. The room is also as vintage as the old English rooms but it is much more appreciated now because of its old look. I like this and this is so great. Thanks for a Bright idea...

  25. Hi again,  this is what I was trying to find the other night - what about something like this instead of the mobile.  http://www.cb2.com/office-accessories/office/red-cable-photo-cord/f7092.
