Look for Less Alert: Gray Ruched Comforter

Completely random stumble but I saw this Anthropologie knockoff bedding at Overstock and had to share. Ive always loved this style. I might need this for my bedroom - what do you think?

Part of the reason I haven't purchased it yet is because I feel a bit bad about buying such a blantant knockoff. I'm sure the quality isn't nearly as good as the Anthropologie set but I'm willing to live with that. On the other hand, I was never going to buy the Anthro bedding so what's the harm? Decisions, decisions.

  1. I've never found Anthro quality to be that great, despite the crazy prices.  That's not to say I don't shop there, but I definitely don't think you get what you pay for.  So, I say go for it, at least on the quality front.

  2. I think the one from Overstock looks prettier actually.  I think you should get it.

  3. Meh, this style is all over, including other designers:

So I wouldn't feel bad about a copy - who knows who was copying from who? Antrho doesn't have a good reputation for not stealing others works - they often have copies themselves.

I have been looking at that comforter at Anthropology, but there is no way I was spending that kind of money. Thanks for posting this one; I might actually buy it.

  6. west elm has this: http://www.westelm.com/products/frayed-edge-quilt-and-shams-b519/?pkey=cquilts-blankets which is a little different but i think same fluffy lovely effect. and not a knock off and way less expensive! actually they just have loads of fun bedding. we got our duvet cover from them (the gray and white bold stripe set) and we LOVE it. good quality, soft and pretty.

Cost doesn't always reflect quality, especially at Anthropologie. I sincerely doubt that the Anthro comforter is going to feel $346 better than the Overstock comforter. Buy the knock-off and save the money on this one.

  8. I haven't bought that many items from Anthropologie but the ones I have purchased were always good quality so I can't really complain about their stuff.  I just know myself and how hard we are on our bedding so I can't bring myself to spend $500 bucks on something my cat will vomit on :)

I doubt that it is a copy or knockoff -  probably manufactured in the same place and the buyers from Anthro and Overstock bought it for the same amount but Anthro sells for $400+ - they need to make this kind of money to upkeep their overhead and image.  Best way to tell is to check the 'made in' label.....probably both from countries paying poor wages.

I just bought a similar DKNY duvet cover from Bed Bath & Beyond for $160 that's a darker grey, but it looks great if you're interested!  The style's name is Willow.

  11. I honestly think that the anthro price is blatantly overpriced, so get the knockoff :) and it's a comforter, not a duvet! bonus. I remember you prefer comforters over duvets... and I remember that because my husband would heartily agree with you. Makes shopping for our bed HARD!

I say go for it!  I have bought 4 different comforters from Anthropologie and have been very disappointed in the quality.

That's funny, that same comforter was in the running for my own bedroom not too long ago (along with the one currently on your bed).

I ended up going with this one though: http://bit.ly/OwMldz (which is a true grey not the purple-ish grey it looks there). Was going to go the West Elm route, but then saw their's was a duvet. I prefer comforters to duvets as well.

If you love it, I say go for it. I've seen that same style by multiple sellers, so who knows who knocked off who.

I don't think you can beat this one for the price! I bought it a few months ago and have loved it so far. It is soft, not too heavy, and just beautiful. We got a King size to put on our Queen Bed and it feels luxurious (I'm not using the bed skirt so the size of that didn't matter) I would say it is a fairly true medium gray, maybe a hint of purplish tone, but could probably coordinate with a variety of grays. Can't wait to see what you're thinking on the nursery, I adore your taste:)

  16.  I heard that sometimes the manf. will sell to Overstock any uhm, 'overstock' merchandise, so this may be the real thing just under a faux name, if that helps:)

West Elm actually has something  similar in white I had been eyeing for our bedroom.  Since you are having a baby, I'd say go for the knock off that way you will not be as devastated if something gets on it.

    This set looks so adorable!

  19. buy the overstock - you can spend what you save on baby stuff.  Like many items, you are paying not only for the goods, but also all their overheads, so it doesn't necessarily mean the quality it any better.  You have to be a savvy consumer in this economy (especially)

I'm a designer and when I was interning for a big design firm that does model homes we once used a duvet much like the one above.  I spent several hours steaming it to make the fabric lay properly.  Its hard to explain, but, the ruched parts were crushed from shipping and it didn't have the look that it should have.  It took forever to steam.  Once done it looked really great, but, I wonder how it would look after being slept on  & sat on?  I'm not sure if the above one would have exactly the same problem, but, I couldn't imagine having to steam that thing after every time I washed it!  Thanks for reading my comment!  Love your blog!!!

  21. I'd buy the knock off.  Often with these things you're paying for the name and not much else.  I am sure it will still look lovely and give you the same amount of satisfaction at a fraction of the price.

A friend's husband worked for Target.  Quite often they would get accidental shipments that were intended for Pottery Barn.  The same factory was making things for both companies.  One store was just passing on much more of a mark-up to you and I.  Buy the one that fits your budget and don't look back.  I doubt very much that the quality difference will be that great, if any.

  23. I have found that Anthro is quite guilty of knocking off artists work and I think the differences are visible, especially around the edges.  I actually like the Overstock one better!  I too have to agree that Anthro's quality isn't on par with it's pricing, from my experience.
