Nashville Suggestions?

I'm doing something I never do - taking a girls weekend!  I'm off to Nashville with a friend to cram in some childfree fun later this week.  We have a few things on the agenda already but I'd love some tips from people in the know.

Any suggestions for great places to eat, shop and see in Nashville?

  1. A Beautiful Mess just posted a Nashville map of their favorite places. Might be helpful!

    1. Thanks Jennifer. That map is so cute. They don't say why those places are their favorite or where exactly they are so it's a little bit confusing for a tourist who has never been there but I do love the look.

  2. If time allows, go to downtown Franklin. I met my husband in a honky tonk on lower Broadway. That's always fun for people watching 😊

  4. Fun! Sean is in Nashville for work all the time. He's had fun checking out Antique Archaeology (owned by the American Pickers guy).

I was going to suggest A Beautiful Mess as well! Elsie also has a post about a whole bunch of restaurants and places in Nashville as well. Sounds like so much fun!

  7. Girl!!! Why didn't you ask me last week...we lived in BNA for 10 years! It's the best little big city, you're going to love it. I especially love walking the pedestrian bridge downtown (great pics!), and the food is dee-vine everywhere! here's a post I've written of some of my recent faves (we go back every year):

    1. Thanks Cassie! I'm adding your favs on my list. Sounds like there are endlessly good places to eat in Nashville.

Do you have any suggestions on great places to shop? Flea markets or outdoor markets?

  8. I live in Franklin, it is a great place to visit. Lots of sweet little shops and restaurants. Pucketts might be a fun place to eat, or Loveless Cafe. They are having a big music festival right outside downtown Franklin this coming weekend, not sure dates of your travel, but that might make it a little crazy. Downtown Franklin is the best, though. There is a restaurant called Saffire in the Factory near downtown franklin that we like. You should also check out Leiper's Fork! It is a darling little place. Its small but really cute and might be nice for a lunch. As far as Nashville, East Nashville has some great restaurants, I would probably look into that. We dont get downtown as often as we should. :-) Also somewhere for hot chicken, prince's or Hattie B's. We love Cheekwood and visit often. It is a lovely place to visit and get some great pictures. The views! And they have some great fall decorations out. Would highly recommend. Plus its just fun to drive around that area and see the big and beautiful houses. Hope you have a great visit!

    1. Thanks Jessica. Putting these on the list. I'm especially interested in fun shopping (since there seems to be way more places to eat than I have days) So what is exactly the difference between Franklin and downtown? Is it a totally different city or more of a suburban outpost?

  9. The hipsters have found Nashville and it's a fun place to stay for a few days! What kind of things are you looking to do?
I'd say Patterson House or Holland House for ladies night if you like a nice bar, Hillsboro Village and East Nashville for a general hipster vibe and great coffee shops, Marche for some fancied up diner eats. You should probably try some hot chicken somewhere; Hattie Bs has been around forever. There are also some astonishingly good taco joints, but when I travel I tend to like to try regional foods of the area I'm in. (But I'm a taco ho, so I have to mention them)

You'd probably enjoy Gaslamp Antiques, and honestly, I think anyone who likes music should go have a peek at the Ryman and drive around Music Row, even if they don't like country music. See also Tootsie's Orchid Lounge and the other honky-tonk bars.... a staggering amount of musical history there, even if it ain't your particular jam!

Several historical sites to see, too, but those aren't really girls weekend types of things!

You might want to check the Vandy football schedule to either avoid the crowds of a home game, or be around for the whole SEC football experience.

    1. Thanks for the tips! Do you know what festival is going on there this weekend? I couldn't find it but I'm probably not searching for the right term.

    2. There's a huge thing in Franklin this weekend, Pilgrim Music and Culture Festival. In Nashville proper... probably a ton of Fall stuff. Pretty sure there's a big craft festival and a flea market at the fairgrounds.

Let me ask around for you..this time of year is big for festivals and such here in the South because the weather starts cooling down!

    3. Thanks so much!

We definitely don't have the best of everything. Especially flea markets - the rent here is too high to have anything that requires a lot of space.

  10. Okay, the Food & Wine festival was last weekend. So the main one this weekend is the Pilgrim Music Festival in Franklin ( which in case you don't know, is about half an hour south of Nashville) I've not been to it, but if you like festivals, it's supposed to be a good one. http://pilgrimagefestival.com/

The craft fair is this weekend, at Centennial Park ( where there are usually free concerts this time of year, too) http://www.visitmusiccity.com/featuredevents/events/tncraft

http://www.thefairgrounds.com/fleamarket/index.asp (It's a pretty good one, though like everything else, one hesitates recommending things to a New Yorker, since you have the best of everything!)

  11. The most wonderful steak you will ever eat is at "The Stockyard" resturant. It is located in town (somewhere) my husband was driving. Also if you get a chance go to Three French Hens in Nolansville, Tn. It is close enough to Nashville to visit. It is an awesome place full of cute things and lots of antiques. You can check them out online. Enjoy your trip.....Rebecca

Terrific (and relevant) travel article on exploring Nashville. The Drag Brunch at Suzi Wong's House of Yum sounds like a great time. Enjoy!

  14. I went to Nashville for Memorial Day weekend last year and loved it! My favorite neighborhood was East Nashville. If you're there through Sunday night you MUST go to the 5 Spot for Sunday night Soul Night. Incredible local musicians covering soul music for a diverse crowd at a typical East Nashville dive bar. Also it's absolutely worth getting up early for breakfast at Pancake Pantry. Get there before 8 or you'll find a line that runs down the street. After breakfast there check out the cute shops in the area. White's Mercantile is a beautiful modern general store owned by Holly Williams, granddaughter of Hank Williams. For an upscale girl's night go to Moda for really good Italian food. Broadway is a tourist trap but probably a must see at least once if you've never been. It's filled with drunk people listening to covers of country music. Not a lot of original music going on. Check out places like 5 Spot, Mercy Lounge, Bluebird Cafe, Station Inn to see local artists and songwriters performing their own music. Nashville is known for country but it has a really diverse music scene. One night we saw country songwriters performing songs they'd written for people like Willie Nelson, the next we went to a CD release party for a rock band and the next was the soul night I mentioned. I love Nashville and can't wait to go back!
