Master Bedroom Pre-Progress...

One of my goals for 2009 is going to be to make some progress in the Master Bedroom. Its somewhat unfunny how unfinished this room is considering we spend a good deal of my life inside it. Sure, our eyes are closed for 95% of that time - that doesn't mean it doesn't deserve SOME attention!

First things first, we've come a long way from where we started a few years ago.

Once the renovation was done, the chandelier that once hung in my in-law's living room got added. Then, I got some draperies up. That was quite a milestone if you consider I still don't have window coverings in my living room.

And then in July, I scored this headboard from a wholesale bedding showroom.

I had intentions of completing the room in 2008. But then I decided I didn't expense of new furniture so I turned my gaze toward my office which was a cheaper undertaking.

And then my brother got me the comforter I wanted for Christmas. I know, I know - I have damask overload but I love the pattern. And I like that it appears in various forms throughout the house. Its like my little touch of continuity. Isn't it pretty?

So I'm newly energized to complete this room. I'm giving myself the entire year to get it to a more finished state. That should be enough considering I really don't need that many pieces. Two end tables, one dresser, some art on the wall and some accent pillows. Shouldn't be too hard, right?

So what do all you fabulously stylish readers suggest? Lay it on me please, I'm taking notes.

  1. For some reason I'm having a hard time with the dust ruffle. Maybe a box spring cover would be better?

  2. I think a rug (similar to that in your living room maybe) would be a nice added to touch to help finish things off.

  3. I would love to see something unexpected by way of art on the walls. Not sure what "unexpected" is but a nice complimentary contrast (if that makes sense) of some sort to the bedding. I love your house and being from brooklyn it makes me happy every time I visit your blog.

  4. I don't have any suggestions--yet--for your bedroom, but you are sure energizing me for some much-needed updates in my own house. Your blog is SO inspiring--in so many ways.

I think a nice, thick rug would do wonders in grounding the room ... and then a big, beautiful mirror to reflect the light from the chandelier would also be a gorgeous touch.

  6. The comforter (and the room) looks great! I think you need to blow up some of those fabulous black and white photos from your European adventures. The room is looking like something you would see in Paris, so why not bring Paris (or Prague) to the room. You just need to find frames as fabulous as the ones you found in the trash. :-) And I think I'd add a light colored rug to balance the dark bedskirt.

  7. Thanks everyone.

Im looking for nightstands and a dresser (for across the room) to start off before I add any accessories in. Any suggestions? Id rather they NOT match.

  9. hey Mrs.BL - I like the idea of Crate & Barrel's Pia side table - clean, simple, $200 a pop (which is not horrible for C&B). I think the slender profile and the glass would show off the room & that fab bed more and create more space. Whatta ya think? I might be totally off :)

  10. You cant make that room any more pretty than it is...i love the comforter and I learned something because I never go by the bedding in walmart. I will be stopping next trip. But I would do the comforter and the bedskirt, and add my own fun pillows. For art I think it would depend on what you do or keep for panels on the window. I would put 3 equal sized pics above the bed.

  11. How about one of the pretty mirrored console tables for a bedside table? My friend has one in her new house and it is absolutely gorgeous!!!! I want one so bad.

  13. I'm amazed at just how luxurious that comforter looks in the space - it so doesn't say "walmart" to me. Wow! I picture two nightstands (possibly flea market finds) painted (gloss) the same shade of black or really dark gray to play off of the comforter. Hell, now that I think about it, I might do that in MY master bedroom. Hahaha. Can't wait to see the progress!

  14. Well of course your bedroom is more gorggeous than most in their after states , it's true, what my eye sees to finish off the space would be round side tables, pedestal style , and above the bed I see a series of small round mirrors ,two on top three below , in either a thick but delicate frame or even better in an antique brass finish , beveled would be nice and I am thinking small liek the size of a tea cup saucer.
You have yourself a very Happy New year!

  15. I would love to see a round mirror over the bed. A round mirror in the bed room is supposed to keep the love round. I would also love to see some sort of gathering of your photos framed in some sort of hip and pleasing fashion. I could paint a branch from which each photo would hang in miniature oval or round frames.

Also a pair or ornate slippers by the bed would be a sweet accent.

  18. hmmm side tables, love the idea of an oval one (maybe mirrored) and a clear mod plexiglass one (mimicking our ghost chair). Maybe a clean lined, modern, simple long dark (and low)dresser.

    Your room is FAB!!

This will be fun to watch!

  21. I don't know if you need a mirror for your room, but I came across this one one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=130280902312 and I thought of you.
