Tidying up...

Wondering what I spent this gray Sunday afternoon doing? Organizing my craft closet. It was such a mess. I threw a huge garbage bag of stuff away and I loaded a bunch of other things that were floating around the house in here as well.

It doesn't really look like much of a change now that I see this before/after shot. But I swear, it so much better. It makes me feel an inner sense of calm when I open the doors. Ahhhh....

When I mentioned my stack of Martha Stewart magazines in the box room I know a lot of you suggested I rip them apart for the good pages. I just couldn't do it! I can't really explain why I can do it to other magazines but not these. Oh well...at least they are all in one place now.

I've been saving Mason jars for a while now. I didn't quite know what I was going to do with them but figured they had some storage potential. They were just perfect for storing my collection of glitter. Ah, sparklies.

In case you're like me and have a collection of Mason Jars laying around waiting for a destined use, I suggest you checking out this mason jar mosiac that Mary of Suffix Abuse put together.

Love it.

  3. Hi! I recently discovered your blog and enjoy it very much. I like organizing too, especially my closets. How do you make that picture with the faint color over it and writing about the changes on top? That's just so cool, I love it!

  5. I bought my husband a case of mason jars about 11 months ago and he only has a few left. He doesnt smoke, but remembers how tobacco smelled that his grandfather use to smoke so he buys it and stores it in the jars and takes a sniff in his office. He also stores old fashioned candy in them. They really do look nice when filled with the right thing and put out on display.

You did a great job. There are some magazines that I have that I just can't part with or bear to tear apart.

  8. I have been spending my free time organizing also. Your closet looks great. It's just fun to go through all the stuff you have. Sometimes you even find treasures you forgot about. And I agree with Bonnie. That picture with the cut-outs is really cool!

Tearing up the MS magazines is just a bad. I did it to several issues and it was not the brightest thing I ever did. I know for me, the MS issues are always filled with things I want the details on and they do a great job of listing retailers in the back. If you tear the pages out then how will you know who made that cute box, or where the pretty ribbon is from or the perfect stamp.

Too much to chance. Good thing you didn’t do it!

  10. what a huge chore! And I love the glitter jars - and the ribbon rod...I have such a weakness for ribbon that it would take up like four broom handles if I did that! Maybe now we will see more crafty posts?...please :)

  11. I can't tear up my Martha Stewarts either. It's not even that I even like everything in every issue but each month everything is just so cohesive with the theme that taking magazine apart and looking only at a "good thing" on it's own is like getting only a glimpse of the larger picture.

  12. The fact that you have a craft closet makes me drool. All my craft stuff is in various bags and bins scattered around my basement. It's pure comedy when I'm ready to work on the kids scrap books to get stuff together.

Don't feel bad I can't bring myself to rip you my Cookie or Domino mags. Even then ones were have 1 page dog eared. I just can't do it.

  15. Ahhhh! I love getting things organized. Things just feel better when you know that the contents of your closet aren't going to fall on top of you when you open the door. It looks gorgeous. Congratulations.
