UpCycling

Despite what my recent posts might suggest, I am still very much interested in home stuff. Just have a few more self-imposed distractions lately :)

This weekend will be the first in a while that I have some free time. To-do list, I'm looking at you! Will I be practical and get to those unexciting maintanenace projects like touching up scuffed paint or organizing my pantry? NAH! I'd much rather work on something with a more satisfying result. With that in mind, I have a project in my head to reuse an old door we found on the curb a few months ago. It may or not pan out but I'll let you know how it goes.

But with that project at the forefront of my thoughts, I'd thought I'd put the question out to you:
Do you upcycle?
In other words, tweaking something to make it more useful / practical / beautiful / valuable.

You already know Im a fan of reusing something lovely into something practical. Case in point, Big Cat's bed from a old suitcase and art from an old dictionary.

But I am much more enamored with some of the clever projects and products out there. Some of my favorites...

Teacup pendant lights from Domestic Contruction, Button Bouquets from Lil Fish Studio, Vintage clocks turned frames from The Hope Jar, Repurposed door from Fixing it Fancy, Matchholder Office Organizers from Ali Edwards, Fork Easels from Whimsy Love, and Suitcase turned filing cabinets from A Poetic Home.

So what about you - do you have any upcycled projects to share? Add it here - I'd love to get some inspiration for the weekend.

  1. I have an old hard suitcase we picked up for free, and thought, hey I could make a dog bed out of it. Turns out it's in great condition though (just needed a cleaning) so we're planning on making it our suitcase designated for road trips!

I love upcycling, and am currently in the middle of a few furniture rehab projects! I absolutely love those little teacup lights though - amazing. Can't wait to see what you do with the door...

Your old dictionary up-cycle is still one of my favorite projects of yours! You're so creative!!!

My latest favorite up-cycle is an old backless frame that I spraypainted, then added in a piece of corkboard covered in burlap. I then made some classy thumbtacks by gluing vintage buttons onto standard brass tacks! (I added to MckLinky!)

  5. I have an item sitting in the garage awaiting my attention. It will be put in my husband's office, which I showed a picture of today in my post. (Currently packed with my discarded, haven't yet figured out what to do with items of home decor.) Don't have anything to add to your party, but it will definitely be an 'upcycle'!!

  8. I made a lamp out of the bottom half of a mannequin. It's not quite finished yet, so I don't have any pics yet.

  10. This is such a fun post. As always, I love seeing your ideas, and seeing what everyone else is doing is great. I posted our mirror project (but it sure is hard to photograph mirrors....). We drag furniture out of other people's trash--because it's amazing what people throw out! Those are my favorite items around the house!
