Meet Ethel

I can't believe I haven't properly introduced the new member of our household! How shockingly rude of me!

Meet Ethel, my vintage but new to me dressform.

She might be a little bit old and a little bit creaky when she rolls around but she is just fabulous as far as Im concerned. A little bit worn but not too run down. Just the right amount of charm. Mr. Limestone gave her to me for my birthday. Be still my beating heart - he gives the best gifts.

Right now she is hanging out in the less than stellar box room. I've been too enamored with her right now to really dress her up - but just think of the possibilities.

And speaking of possibilities, check out the eye candy I found on surfing.

What do you think I should do with her?

Ooh so fun! I'd string a little garland around her like a sash (or ribbon) and pin the Christmas cards you receive to her for the holidays. Then on New Years you can add loads of bling. I've wanted one of these for a long time so I have about a million ideas!

  12. Mr. L needs to give Mr. FC some romantical gift giving tips. Hell, I'll just send Mr. FC the link to this post, that should do it.

Please tell us where/how your hubby found the form! I have three forms in children's sizes and just love them. I think these forms are too much like sculpture to adore with anything. Perfect the way they are.

  17. Wow! She's a babe! I wish I could break me off a piece of that. lol! Seriously, what a cool accent to a room! I loved the ideas of the chunky necklaces around the neck or the charms pinned to her.

  18. Oh and before it kills me, if you dont mind either, what kind of camera do you have?? Seriously, those photos you took in Bali were amazing. Just wondering. :)

  19. you seriously have a keeper for a husband! :-) She's just a doll! (pun intended) I love her and have wanted one myself for a long time. I think you could make her a little bra out of vintage ribbon bows, you could cover her in magnolia leaves in the shape of a dress with a creamy velvet sash and a HUGE Gardinia as a brooch...I could go on and on...you are a lucky CHICK! ;-)

  22. Ethel! How did you decide on this name?! It is so much fun to have a dress form, I've had mine since I studied fashion design and wouldn't want to ever have to part with it! ENJOY!!

  23. Isabella - I don't know where Ethel came from - just that dress forms make me think of uber stylish 90 year old ladies that sew all their own clothing and always look like they are going to the opera even if they are staying home. Ethel is one of those names, you know?

  25. Lucky duck! I like that you named it.

My mom has one in her bedroom, and it scared me one evening. But hers is covered in red velvet. I love the base!

  32. Oh, to see one of my "girls"!!! That is what I call them. They are my Chic girlfriends that always make me feel stylish. Ethel is just perfect and what a great girlfriend she will be....I had so many at one time but they have gone on to other adventures to new homes. I still have 3 left with me in my office and on one of them (she is a half one, store display) I pinned tons of old watch faces all over her...and some lace left over from my wedding outfit. My other girl is in front of my desk with a vintage jacket on and other trinkets around her neck that has meaning to me...I never tire of them.

Give Ethel a hug for me,
    Elizabeth

  33. She's lovely! Perhaps you could use her as an idea board for your projects? Pin pictures and swatches of fabric on her as you gather inspiration? What is the name of the blue on the walls behind her? I am still on the hunt for the perfect shade of blue for my kitchen!

  34. Ethel is sexy! I bet she and my Madonna would be friends. (Madonna has amazing cone shaped bosoms, hence her name)and likes to play dress
    up.

Also, serious coolness points to Mr. L, bravo!

How about simple mattress ticking for a skirt round the bottom, aslo are you going to use a sheet of glass over the surface of the door for a smooth top. Thinking about the wall, hmmmmmm. . . was on habitat UK and Living etc. websites today lots of great ideas there. Good luck I am sure you'll pull off something amazing!
