Have you seen...

the new passport pages?

Gone are the lovely old style simple style replaced with patriotic scenes. I really wanted to finish my collection of passport stamps art. <---Click there if you want to learn more about what I did with them last year.

I know this is an incredibly silly thing to be complaining about but its ruining my plans of completing a whole wall of them. The mismatched styles would just drive me crazy.

Now that the old style will soon be a thing of the past, I'm even more attached to my old stamps! I'll have to figure something else out. Such a shame to keep them locked in my passport forever, don't you think?
I know I'm not the only one generally obsessed with ephemera. Anyone else do something fun with their (or anyone elses) important documents? I'd love to see them!

  1. The new ones are pretty but I agree I will miss the old. I love them. A classic.

  3. Just got my new {expedite in 10 days} passport yesterday and I was not at all happy with new pages. I too am having a hard time letting go of my old one bc of the stamps. I'm keeping all my passports in a box till I can figure out what to do with them.

  4. I was equally upset when I saw my new passport pages last week. I just don't think the stamps will look as nice on them!

  5. Husband and I met in Australia, went to Africa on honeymoon. Clearly - we both love travel.

We are going to use your stamps idea for our nursery. We are even going to use his passport pictures from when he was a little kid (traveling to Venezuela in summers to see grandparents.)

This look will always represent our "golden age" of travel!!

  6. Sheepishly I must admit I have lost several passports in the last few years (Luckily the one with the most stamps was found...). Anyway I have the new version and I agree the old version was more classic and allowed the stamps to showcase themselves. I love your idea of a passport wall.

  7. Those new pages are too busy - I don't think the stamps will look as good on them.

However, I think it might be interesting if you mixed up the artwork of the stamps on old pages, with the stamps on new pages for your wall. Might be worth a try! They could look great all mixed together!

Got my new one last month--same reaction here. Not only am I RFID'd now (boo!) but there are no grid lines for the visas!

  9. I don't have any great ideas for the stamps, but have to agree that mixing the two type of passport pages would be wrong. Just plain wrong. And, it would bug me, too!

  10. I love what you did with the stamps - good inspiration for creating something in that direction myself! :-)

  12. I have to slow down when commenting...too many typos. Anyway, I was saying...I recently got my passport renewed and it is the original style, happily. The new style does look a bit odd.

My daughter just got a passport and travelled to Mexico, and she was dismayed when her book never even got stamped at all! She said all they did was just look at it. So her pages are still blank! -jlw

I refuse to give up my old passports, and I go bananas when the border guards stamp new stamps over old ones :(

  15. I love your idea of putting them on the wall still. I'm sure you have plenty of stamps left to hang up.

  16. I love the stamps. I don't even own a passport:)

  17. I love this idea (just read your past tutorial). And I much prefer the classic passport pages as well!

  18. Nooo - I just mailed off my passport a few days ago to get it renewed - I wish I'd done something like your stamp project! But at least I did take photos. Eehh... Should I have said I lost it instead of mailing it?

  20. Everyone in our family has the new passport except for me. I agree the new pages would not look as good as art. I loved your passport project and am planing to do something similar for my hubby using his old passport. It has 10 years of travel including the stamp when we met in Dublin. I want to do it as a surprise to hang in our soon to be redone living room. Thanks for the idea!

  22. I think the pages could work together. If you peppered the darker, newer ones throughout the older ones... but if it drives you crazy it drives you crazy.

  23. I just received my renewed passport two weeks ago and I didn't even notice the change. That's too bad about your wall idea.

  24. I guess a Plan B will have to be in the works now.

  25. I was really bummed when I saw this too...why do people always mess with something that's already good to begin with? Oy.

Ewww. I definitely don't like the new ones. Blah. And isn't it so depressing to not receive a stamp sometimes when you go through customs? I mean, c'mon. That's the whole joy of having a passport.

Thanks for your nice comment on my blog the other day. I am looking forward to a better this year. I deserve it! :)

  27. It would be nice if they gave travelers the option of having either the old style or the new passport style.

  28. Um, so... would you like images of passport stamps from someone else's passport? If so, I have a few good images I'd be willing to volunteer for your wall project -- including France! However, I know it may not be as meaningful, since all the ones you used are personal...

  29. I totally get it, that is such a bummer that they had to go and change the look! I love this idea BTW, I need to make something like this soon

  30. How fun to make artwork out of an old passport! Love the idea.

  31. I STILL haven't gotten around to giving a go at making a passport stamp display like yours. Everytime I see it I love it more! Someday soon, hopefully.
