What you didn't see on TV.

If you saw us hanging with Nate yesterday (yea, thats right - we are on a first name basis with him now!) you got to see our master bedroom. For legal reasons I won't even try to explain but I'm sure are legit, there were things they couldn't show on air. As luck would have it, they are the very reasons I picked that room to talk about in the first place. So instead of sharing on the show, I'll give you a little more of a peek at the space. This stuff is nothing new to long time readers of the blog but in case you are new here, I wanted to share.

To refresh, a look at the before. Take my word for it, this looks a lot more charming in person than it did in reality.

Master Bedroom Before

And now...
masterbedroomafter
Sharp shooters may notice that I have once again changed the bedding. This one was from Restoration Hardware. Guess what? I returned this set too! This makes bedding set #4 I've purchased and returned. The hunt for a simple but plush gray comforter continues.

You already saw the headboard, the frame around the tv and the nightstand.

So what didn't you see on the Nate show?

Mostly the artwork. Ok, I realize they are not masterpieces but they are mine. These are my little personal brands on this room - so I'm kind of partial to them.

Bedroom8

Starting with the collages I designed using WWII era photographs and ephmera. They are hung over a vintage chair I scored for $80. (It could use a fresh upholstery job but Im too cheap to spring for that right now) And that little pillow was sewn by moi.

MasterBedroomDresserTop

They did show a glimpse of the painting I shakily attempted but here is another look. On the dresser sits a couple of photographs taken on two of our favorite trips Paris and Poland along with the busted bust of a greek goddess.

ChuutSchhhSign2

And lastly the do not disturb sign we shamefully lifted as a souvenir of my 30th birthday trip.

So there you have it. The whole shebang. Now if I could just find that perfect comforter!

PS: I should also mention that you missed out on Mr. L’s banter about removing the tiles in the upstairs bathroom that were used for the kitchen backsplash and some other tidbits that ended up on the editing room floor.

  2. Saw you guys and you looked great. So cool your blog got a shout out. Seen a traffic spike?

  3. I saw you on tv! How cool is that? You were great!
I'm wondering why they had to edit out your artwork. To me, that's what makes the room so special.
Have you checked out Garnet Hill for the comforter?

  4. I am also looking for the right bedding just now, you are not giving me encouragement that I'll find it easily! Great job yesterday! Curious about why they couldn't show the artwork...

  5. I was totally inspired by your frame around the TV thing- We finally put our flatscreen up in our master and I was thrilled to find the perfect frame (with painting) at one of my local stores- I still have to paint and put it up but seeing this picture of your room again has totally made me excited about the project. Your room is gorgeous!!!
I'm also on the neverending hunt for bedding- I can't even tell you how many sets I have purchased over the years:(

  6. i fast-forwarded through all the other stuff to get to you guys last night. It was a great spot! So cute when you both grabbed each other's hands at the end kinda automatically. Loved your dress too! Nate is so darling. I'm jealous.

  7. I've been on an impossible hunt for bedding lately, too. Love the splash of colour in the pillows.

  10. I missed it :( I'm sure I'll see it on a re-run! You really have me guessing why they coudln't show some of your art...hmmmmm...
Your bedroom is one of my favorites, I never bore looking at it again, well, your whole house :)

  11. Was so much fun to see you guys last night on the show! I am guessing that regardless of worth of the art, they weren't showing it. Nowadays it is easy to figure where someone lives...wouldn't want that art "walking off"??!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Could have something to do with copyrights of those who produced the art as well, just guessing.

Oh, man, do I love what you've done with this room. I'm so going to waste a good chunk of the morning clicking through your reno pictures and marveling over the job you've done.

  14. Congrats on the show, you were great! I was wondering why Mr L wasn't speaking, too bad that got cut out. I wish they'd make the real life design segments longer. There just doesn't seem to be enough time allotted to really take it all in.

I fast forwarded too, just to see you and your hubby. You did a great job! Loved your dress. My favorite was hearing your husband giggle. So cute. And I loved that he said your blog name, but could he have slurred and jumbled the words more. I loved nate on oprah, not liking his new show much.

  16. I watched and enjoyed that show. I wish Nate would do all decorating on his show and eliminate the other stuff. You and hubs were cute and your place was gorgeous. Loved everything!

As a new reader of your blog and current homeowner who is slowly trying to revamp our home using thrifted and DIY pieces, I'm absolutely loving your blog. I'm a huge fan of the collages. I've been on the lookout for some vintage Navy photos (my boyfriend is in the Navy) to display around our home. Thanks for the awesome information and photos! Looking forward to reading more. :)

  25. Target has a new graphite colored coverlet type that I just spyed this week. I too have been on a hunt. It's cotton which I love because I use mine and it looks great too! Hope this helps. Don't recall the brand but it has pebble like stitching and it is folded and tied with thick ribbon. Not the bed in the bag type ones. Near the Dwell Studio Line..(love love!!)

  26. It was the first time that I watched the show and I was just sorta watching it while doing other things, and then I saw your kitchen and I was like "hey I know that kitchen"! It was at that point that I rewound and watched your whole segment. Congrats!!

    I love your limestone!

Any chances you could do a post on the floor plans of each level?

I've read all your old posts but I still can't make sense of the flow.

  29. I saw this duvet online and thought I'd send it to you. Maybe you already know about it. I don't know where I got the blog link (http://www.cabinonthewater.us/) from. It's pricey, but very nice.

  40. Such a Shame we don't get Nate in Australia, would have loved to see the show!.

I loved the Grey Douvet from Anthropologie, it looked great! I was thinking of purchasing one for our master bedroom, was it not warm enough?

  41. So sad that the Nate Show doesn't air here. I get more and more envious of your beautiful home by the minute!

I feel bad for Mr. L . They should have left in him talking about the tiles.
Shame on Nate or whomever editing that out.

  43. I am a fairly new reader so this was the first time I saw these pics, love how bright your room in now! I also will be watching the clip, our DVR is a bit backed up, but can't wait!

  44. Thanks so much for the comments. I don't think there is an online clip of our appearance so I can't share it here. Sorry.

Samatha: I never slept with the anthro quilt before returning it so I can say if its warm. I just felt it looked kind of droopy. For the price, I wanted to really love it and I just didn't. So back it went. If it were cheaper I would have kept it.

Kelly: Thanks for the recommendation. There are so many more choices in duvet covers than comforters but Ive sworn off dealing with duvets :)

J: Paint color is Benjamin Moore's Silver Marlin

Lisa: Thanks - that is really pretty but Im looking for a comforter, not a duvet cover.

Sara: The doorknob came with the house :) I just had to boil all the paint off it to get it looking like this.

Mom of 2 Cuties: Thanks - Ill check that out. Im hoping to find a fluffy comforter but I might have to settle for a coverlet.

  45. Still on the hunt for the perfect comforter?! Maybe it will find you when you stop looking;)

Don't feel bad. I'm on bedding #3 for our master. I had the perfect coverlet in the summer, but now that it is cooler out my hubs was whining about how cold it was!

The first one was from West Elm (too much texture for the room), The 2nd one was from Macy's (that one ended up having an ombre pattern to it). I just wanted something simple, darn it!

Bedding #3 was ordered from Overstock this week. Sight unseen, I'm not really sure about it, but maybe I will get lucky!

    Best of luck!

  47. Seriously, every time I see the painting you did with the yellow shoes, I think about how I seriously need one just like it. I'd have to have red shoes and two dogs, but I love yours so much I'd just take it as is.

Congrats for being on Nate's show! So glad I'm dvr-ing and could go watch.

Love, love, love him but the show needs better producing. You have the most amazing home and story and they just did not capitalize on it.

    You are the best!!!

  49. I missed the show because we are moving but I am sure it was great. Congrats for making it.

I am with you on the comforters. I have done the same thing. I am on the hunt right now for something in the cream family. I wish us both luck.

I think your busted bust of the Greek goddess needs a simple black velvet choker. Maybe an antique brooch attached? Maybe not?

  51. Stefanie, that was so much fun to see you & your hubby on the Nate show! I just finished watching it (love the DVR) and you did a fab job. your house shows SO well & all the hard work you've done shows beautifully. You have such great style, congrats on getting featured. I would die if he called me! :) I'm so happy the show is using bloggers so much, that just thrills me & is great for our home decor community.

  52. Gray Comforter Update..take a look at one that is offered at Z-Gallerie. It's new and has a yummy damask pattern. Sometimes their material has a cheese factor however but this one may work for you. Enjoy your day!
    Maureen
ps..not that you are cheesy by any means..just sometimes there bedding has too much shine and too much poly..cheap looking. :D

Hi, Just found your blog yesterday while I was searching paint colors. I love what you have done. I just painted sample blocks of silver fox on my living room wall and keeping my fingers crossed it is the right one! Anyway, take a look at this set. I got it a couple of weeks ago and I LOVE IT!

Absolutely love your design, especially the color scheme.  That yellow chair is just perfect!  One day, I will use colors like these to decorate a room.  I almost went with grays in my bedroom, but I had been living with white walls for so long that I just really needed bold colors all around me.  My bedroom is RED! for instance.  Question, did you incorporate black into your design because you were trying to balance out the TV above the mantle?  Or was that part of your design before factoring in the TV?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Thanks Ilana. I tend to like to add black into rooms in general - not necessarily for the tv but of course it helps. The TV was definitely there first so I couldn't say for sure if I would have added it even if I didn't have a tv (the idea of not having a tv in my bedroom being so unimaginable that it didn't even occur to me!) haha

I love the black lamps you have.  I bought white lamps just like it, called Harriet by Robert Abbey, but ultimately decided to return them because the white was not opaque enough.  I ended up with a more chess piece looking shape.  Thanks for replying.
