Home Hop: Megan's New + Nifty

It should come as no surprise that I love old homes - the more decrepit and filled with salvagable details, the more my heart races. But every once in a while I stumble on a blog whose owner who has done a great job transforming a brand new space into something that makes me question my single minded old home devotion. Let me introduce you to one of those bloggers, Megan of Honey We're Home. She did such a lovely job with her house and was kind enough to take us all on a virtual tour. I hope you fellow decor porn addicts will enjoy it just as much as I did. (Just wait til she shows you her closet! GASP!) Take it away Megan.

When I very first started reading blogs, there were only a handful that I fell immediately in love with and checked in on everyday (I didn’t know I could “follow” back then)- and Brooklyn Limestone was one of them. I loved one of Stefanie’s very early posts that “cracked” me up, where she said: “This weekend was our first crack at the house. Hmmm..crack.. that’s kind of a "theme" with this house. You all know how I love when a thing all ties together. Everything is cracked from floor to ceiling. We are on crack for considering it. Its going to cost us what a heavy crack habit would add up to for Whitney and Bobby!” It’s been amazing to see the renovation that she and her husband undertook and the fabulous results. Because Stefanie is such an inspiration to me, it’s really an honor to be here today.

My blog was born when my husband and I (being very pregnant at the time) bought a small lot in an older, established neighborhood and built a two-story home on it. You can go here to see the entire process. The baby arrived in March 2010 and we moved into our new house as a family the following July. Now that we’re home (hence the blog title), the decorating has begun. We still have a long way to go and a few rooms that are totally incomplete, but we’ve made some progress. Come on in, let me show you around!

The Living Room

This is the room we spend most of our time in. That basket near the stairs holds toys and we are always on the floor playing. We had the media cabinet built-in to fit the size of the room (I painted the back soft blue). The rug is from Crate & Barrel and the chaise-sectional is from Pottery Barn. The curved staircase is one of my favorite elements in the house. I had fun decorating them for Christmas this year too.

The Kitchen

The kitchen opens to a small breakfast room on one side and butler’s pantry on the other. It and also peeks into the living room. There’s a lot of white in the kitchen (cabinets, subway tile and carrera marble counters) that I tried to balance with the dark hardwood floors and dark wooden island. The two stainless steel pendant lights really stand out and are so pretty at night.

My Closet

I specifically planned for this closet when drawing up the blueprints for this house. The room is 9’4 x 13’2 and fits everything (clothes, shoes, purses, accessories) perfectly. There is an island with cubbies, a built in dresser and shelves for purses and shoes. I hang my necklaces on the back of the door using Command hooks. What a dream-come-true this closet is! The chandelier is called Lucia.

The Nursery

The wainscoting and light blue walls are pretty traditional for a baby boy’s room, but I liked the look paired with the dark wood furniture. The initial rug is from Restoration Hardware Baby & Child and the tall zebra is from Z Gallerie. The framed art is from a book called “I Love You More” and the frames are from Target (11 x14 frame with 8 x 10 mat).

We really are enjoying this new house and hope to enjoy many years here!

Brooklyn Limestone readers- thanks for letting me crash Stefanie’s blog:)
