Favorite Nook: Simplified Bee

Today's favorite nook comes from Cristin - professional organizer, mother and author of Simplified Bee.

Her style is a little bit different than what I see on most blogs - a lovely blend of far east, traditional and feminine -so of course I was drawn to that and Im sure you will be too. Let's take a peek at her space.

*******

I’m thrilled to be here on Brooklyn Limestone and talking about my favorite “nook” in our house. Thanks Stefanie for inviting me! Our petite and casual dining room {open to the living room & just off the kitchen} is my favorite spot in our house for several reasons.

First it is open to a bank of windows that overlooks our backyard. Because it faces south, the space is showered in sunlight most mornings. I used to have a beautiful tribal rug in the space, but when the kids {and Cheerios} arrived the rug was removed.

Adding back a kid-friendly area rug is one thing I would change about the space. I also love that this room has many of the pieces found at estate sales and flea markets. The sweet French-inspired cane-back chairs for example were purchased at the Alameda Flea Market. The chinoiserie style fabric on the seat cushion came with the chairs, but I am debating on switching it out for something more geometric. My home’s design is always evolving and I love that. I also adore this tall glass, chrome and brass shelving unit. It’s vintage and was picked up at an estate sale. It is a bit unexpected and I love the touch of glam it gives our very laid back dining room. The antique wooden Chinese cabinet houses liquor & linens. It becomes a bar area when we are entertaining. The red tones in the cabinet echo the cherry wood dining table.

The vintage chrome glass cart was picked up at another estate sale. The original owner used it as a TV stand. I love it as a tea cart. Speaking of tea. I loving sipping an English Breakfast tea here with my family on Saturday mornings.

Thanks again Stefanie for having me visit today! It’s been a pleasure.

That vintage chrome cart is AMAZING! If you ever tire of it, give Laura a jingle, lol.

Love seeing everyone's nooks. I'm just putting the finishing touches on a new window seat which I think will quickly become my new favorite nook. :-)

  3. Great post. I love the table runner. Where did you get it? Also, I've been looking for that pattern, what do you think it's called?

@Ncfspringer - the table runner was purchased on One Kings Lane last year, but the fabric is Cross Sections by Waverly in green. Hope this helps! xo, cristin

That tea cart is gorgeous! And the tall shelf is so unique. I had the same challenge with the rug in our breakfast room- we moved it to the entry way and I just ordered an indoor/outdoor rug for under the table- I'm hoping it's easier to clean all the falling food!

p.s. I used that same fabric to make a runner for our breakfast room table too!
