Dining Room Table Love

Somehow it totally slipped my mind to share our new dining room table!  For those have been following along, I've been thinking about the Restoration Hardware Trestle table forever and kept trying to come up with a cheaper alternative that I still loved (read all about it here). Finally I broke down and shelled out the bucks for the one I wanted (which was extremely difficult for someone who loves secondhand furniture).

Once I found a 20% off coupon, I made the order and the table was here within a couple of weeks. It's exactly what I wanted and most importantly will now let us have festive dinners without the need for squeezing people onto folding tables or serving buffet style. (It gets even larger when I add in the extensions!)

This table is definitely not for everyone.  It has a rough wood look and feel, its not sealed and doesn't have an ounce of shine if you want a more polished dining room.  I knew all that going in and its exactly what I wanted for my house (I like the patina of old age even on new furniture).

Just thinking of the family drama, bad recipes and good times that will be shared over this table makes me smile.

  1. I've had a mad love affair with this table for a while now as well! We found a local man who can build one identical for $1,500. BUT I'm not sure if even that will suffice my RH Trestle obsession, haha. It looks so great in your space!

  2. It looks like it was built for your dining room! Absolutely love it! There's nothing wrong with Christmas coming a little early in the shape of a table. ;)

  3. I love it, as it was meant to be. I know I have definitely felt the urge to update and nest, glad I'm not alone! Can you just imagine your little baby as a child having birthday parties around that table?! And I love the finish, or lack thereof, which will only make it better with time as it collects character. xo, Ann @ thesewallsofwhite.blogspot

  4. I absolutely love it, and have been eyeing one pretty much exactly the same.... (I cannot see any differences)... and it's $1495.00... soooo tempted!

  5. I can't say without knowing which one you are looking at but I would guess that its smaller and doesn't extend.  There are actually quite a few good knock offs that are much cheaper if you don't need something as large or as flexible as this one.  I wish I could have taken advantage of that.

  6. If you can find the exact same thing for that great price you are one lucky girl!  I found several knockoffs and companies that will make something similar but none of them were large enough AND had the extension option without jacking the price up.  But Im sure they exist - I just couldnt find it.

A grand home needed a grand table and this one fits the bill perfectly!  And I love the table scape, too!

I can totally relate. I just bite the bullet and bought the printmaker media console after searching for cheaper dupe for several months and coming up empty handed.

  10. It looks great in your dining room.  I'm glad you found just what you wanted.  I think he extension option is what makes it  a great table.

  11. I love the look of rustic, unfinished wood and think it looks perfect in your house.  It is a great contrast with the fancy moldings and chandelier.  I am still kicking myself for never buying that Wisteria candelabra when they were still selling it.

  15. You are hilarious! You have family drama and bad recipes? Funny because that room is so perfect I imagine your life as nearly perfect.  Love that you had that line in there because now I will have a different perspective on things like that in my life.

  16. I love, love how the Restoration Hardware Trestle table looks in your dining room. The pairing with regency faux bamboo dining chairs is so unexpected yet they work together so well. Great job!

  17. It's so gorgeous! I'll be interested to hear if you have any tips for cleaning an unfinished table? My husband and I built a table and I trying to decide on a finish - I really like this look, but worry about the ease of clean up. Thoughts?

My father-in-law made a trestle table for me  for my birthday almost 20 yrs ago now - before they were popular. I have loved it so much! It's absolutely beautiful. He made a chevron pattern using oak & cherry. We left it the light wood color but did seal it well so it's shiny & smooth. He also made a bench to match so we can fit lots of people around it. I have pics of my son & his friends every yr on his birthday sitting on the bench - I love it.

If you decide you want yours sealed - it is so much easier to keep clean that way - it's easy to do. I sealed one for my mother. We found one similar to yours & she wanted a smoother finish on it than it had.

Simply beautiful!  A friend has this table in quite a different decorating scheme and it looks gorgeous there too.  Nothing but good times at that table!!  Wishing you many years of great meals, good company and lots of laughs at your table.

The rough woody look of the table just rocks. Plus the pumpkins at the center are really going well with the theme.

beautiful! Our town just got a retoration hardware outlet (only one around for several states) ...I don't wanna tell you the price of them!

More importantly...How did you and your beach house fare through this storm?! Hoping all is well, thinking of you!

  29. We checked out the outlet in VA for a few years but never found one. I guess it's less of a popular style in the South? Or maybe we never got lucky.
No clue what it looks like at the shore - still quite a ways to go before the tides come down.

I LOVE your table!  If you need any more furniture with a similar aesthetic - you would probably also like the company Dovetail Furniture.  Enjoy your new table!!!

    Enjoy, it's really beautiful!

  33. Beautiful. Congratulations. For those of you that sealed the RH trestle table, what did you use? I'm not a neat fanatic but using a dust buster to clean the table my family eats off of doesn't seem sanitary enough. LOL. Thank you.

  34. I'm with Victoria. I just bought the Parson's Extension Table in Weathered/Drifted Oak and want to seal it. Can someone who has sealed this table or one that is unfinished/open wood respond with a 'how to'? I'm thinking Briwax in clear, but I'm not sure if I need to do anything else or if this will ruin the look. My concern is spills, water marks, etc. Thanks!

  35. Question: how is the table holding up? How do you maintain it? I'm close to pulling the trigger on the 120" version, and would love to hear how it's holding up to toddler abuse?

    Thanks!

    1. I love it. The table looks worn from the day you get it so it looks pretty much like the day we got it. It's a bit of an uneven rough look so you have to be sure you like that to start with (my husband wasn't such a fan when it first arrived but now seeing how its virtually impossible to damage, he has grown to like it) but if you do, I would definitely recommend it.

    2. Oh and we do nothing to maintain it.
