Big Little News!

Things have been a little quiet lately but I've been working on a top secret DIY that I can finally share...

We are expecting baby #2 in August!

This pregnancy has been quite a bit different than my first. All those early 2016 plans got scratched when I could barely raise myself from the couch most weekends. Hello all day sickness! Hello exhaustion! Oh, how I never missed you. I hope you'll bear with me while I anxiously await that burst of energy stage. I'm firmly in second trimester now and it hasn't shown up. (tapping foot impatiently)

While this baby was planned and very much wanted, I have to admit I'm completely terrified about how our lives will change as a family of four. Pretty much as soon as I saw the positive test, I had a small panic attack about all those sleepless nights, endless feedings and the general stress of being responsible for a tiny helpless baby. Logically I know it will be okay but we are definitely upsetting our easy little apple cart now. Obviously we know a lot more this time than we did with Agatha so that should be some consolation, right? Right??? I'm keeping my fingers crossed the pregnancy gets easier from here on out and I can get back to my fun projects in full force soon.  Either way, I know this time is fleeting and I'm trying to make the most of it.

So there it is: our big little news.  I hope you don't mind a few baby related posts popping up here and there.  Like last time, I promise to keep the indelicate bits to myself.

  1. Congratulations, that is wonderful news...and what sweet photo of your daughter!

    Adapting from a family of 3 to 4 will be much easier than you probably think. Hope your pregnancy starts to feel a little easier soon...my 2nd pregnancy was harder too with all day sickness....which for me meant a boy, having had a girl first....just sayin;

    1. Thanks Simone. I'm hoping you are right. I freaked in a similar way when I was pregnant with Aggie and with few exceptions, it has been easier than I imagined. So I hope the same will hold true for #2.

  3. congrats to you! wishing you all the best and that you feel more like yourself soon! my kids are 17 months apart and i was petrified about how things would change with sawyer, my older child. i seriously was an emotional wreck grieving the loss of what i had with him in that one child time, so i made sure i packed it with so many fun mommy and me activities. and it wasn't easy when emerson came along for sure but i can't imagine our family without her. and my son just told me he had to write a story for school on someone he loved and he wrote it about her. :)

    1. Oh how sweet! I worry that my kids will be too far apart in age to be close but I was so not ready to even think about it when she was just a year old so that ship has passed. Hopefully they like each other b/c they are cool people :)

  11. Yay! I'm so happy for you, Stefanie!! Aggie is going to be an AMAZING big sister and if the little one is anything like her, you are one lucky mom!

(PS- might be going to school in NY, so if I get in you've got a babysitter!) :)

  12. Congrats!!! I was wondering if you guys were a 'one and done' family or if you'd go for #2...such exciting news! I'm currently preg with a planned #2 and I constantly ask myself 'what were we thinking?' But then I remind myself that I'm just not a fan of being pregnant, but I am definitely a fan of being a parent. Hopefully you start to feel better soon!

    2. Haha yes! Due the end of May - but I'm estimating mid May (because obviously I know more than my doctors - ha!) Had some work done in the big boy room this week, so hopefully we will get #1 in there as soon as I have time to put up that Anthro wallpaper (again - why did I think it was a good idea to assign myself these tasks at 7 months preg?') Par for the course around here...

  17. Awww...so excited for you! We used the exact same book (and same general photo expression from our daughter) to announce our 2nd pregnancy also. ;)

Having two definitely takes some getting used to... I too was a nervous wreck fretting about how our second was SURE to be a little hellion cause our daughter was so easy as a baby. turns out he's EASIER!! They're so incredibly different but in the best way possible. Agatha is at that age to be helpful when you need her to be...and independent when you're trying to get things done with the baby. PLUS they entertain each other right from the start!

Do you know what you're having yet?

    1. Thanks Yvette!

I tried to make that announcement photo include my husband and me but that was an epic fail so this was the next best thing. I am not good at self portraits!

I hope I have the same experience as you. I think aggie was a good but generally average baby - not especially hard but not super easy either. So I'm hoping I just get a super chill baby this time but I doubt it. Super chill is not in my DNA :)

  18. Congratulations! I hope you get your energy back and feel better soon. I know how annoying it is to feel sick all day.

  19. Congratulations!! Going to 2 kids isn't so bad actually. The hardest part is the toddler!! The baby will be the easiest part compared to the tantrums and power struggles etc...

Hope you start feeling better soon!

  21. Yay! So excited for you. It's is terrifyingly wonderful. Promise :)

  22. Yeah! Congratulations!!! It will be better because you'll generally be more chill about things. My only warning is to remember that things that worked with your first may not (will not???) work with your second. If your first loved the bouncer, the second will love the swing. Murphy's law for getting more crap into your home. I also think I "enjoyed" the baby stage a bit more with my second - especially when my first was at school :)

    1. Thanks! The jokes on me b/c we got rid of pretty much everything baby (except the clothes) so I have to buy all new stuff anyway. I'm torn about rebuying all that stuff or just letting it arrive and seeing what I really need. Hard to know until Im in the situation.

  27. Oh,what wonderful news! All the extra love and joy cancels out the extra chaos, but I know it's hard to focus on that when you're not feeling great. Sending you good vibes!

  29. Congrats!!!! Great news! From my experience, not only was pregnancy #2 more difficult/tiring, but the beginning of 2 kids is wonderful and exhausting all at the same time :) I remember the panic before leaving the hospital and wondering how I was going to handle the baby AND the 2 1/2 year old. But I did and survived and by the time the baby was a year old it was sooo much easier. They entertained each other and life was good. Just take plenty of pictures that first year so you can remember it....haha! I will love to hear anything you have to share, baby related, Agatha related or house related!

  30. Congrats!! I felt the same way last summer about changing the family dynamic and how was our son going to handle sharing mommy. I even had a small melt down in the shower before leaving for the hospital to have our baby. I thought, I can't do this, can't love two the same. But when our second son was born, I cried tears of happiness! It is hard, but those little people love you fiercely and that makes it all worth it! Good luck!

  31. Congratulations! I had my first child in August. I remember my gigantic swollen feet. That was way back in 1973 and they are smarter now in dealing with that sort of thing. Prayers for a happy, healthy baby.

  32. Had my first child right around the time you had yours (every time you post a photo I am reminded as my girl is so much like yours in age), and just had another one a couple months back. It is easier the second time around - you'll know what you are doing for the most part ;)
...Plus big sister will help out a little. it's a good age range! Congrats!

  35. So So happy for you! Our 2nd is going to be one in a few weeks. I feel like I got to enjoy him more since I wasn't panicking about the small things like I was with my first. In that sense it easier. Getting everyone out of the house, bath time, etc is more challenging...but it's a happy kind of chaos. Max loves his baby brother. There is nothing better than watching the two of them interact!

  37. I'm 70 and I still remember morning, afternoon, and evening sickness. That's something you never forget.

I remember being pregnant with the second one and wondering if it would be possible to love the second one as much. It was and I didn't even have that worry with the third one.

    Congratulations!

  38. Congratulations! It's much more of a change to go from childless to having one, than when you're adding more to the mix. You're already accustomed to giving up your me time and your privacy, oh and doing laundry the extra laundry!

    ReplyDelete
  39. We just had our second. It's tough but in a different way. I never realized that with the second, what worked for the first might not work for them. We had to figure out how to soothe in a whole new way again.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Actually, two are easier than one--after you get over the baby stage. : - ) I'm sure it'll be another beautiful baby.

  41. First of all CONGRATULATIONS! My first 2 daughters were born 2.6 years apart and my eldest daughter was so helpful and loving to her baby sister. I did find it difficult going from 1 to 2 children but like everything in life you adjust to change. This is wonderful news for sure.

  42. Congratulations to your little family! I so enjoy your decor/family/travel posts and know this will just add even more joy and adventure to your life! Good luck! Katie

  43. Congratulations! What wonderful news! Quit worrying and ENJOY!! ;-) Agatha will be a terrific big sister and great helper, too!

  44. It will change in the most amazing ways possible. TWO beautiful spirits to raise! Nothing is more rewarding💞

  45. Congratulations. I so much enjoy your blog. Agatha is a sweetheart and I am sure the new one will be ever so much fun also. Thanks for sharing. and Good luck.

  46. It is mandatory that when you have such a beautiful baby (Aggie) you owe it to the world to have another :) Not to worry a 2nd baby is easy and Aggie will be Little Miss Mommy I'm sure. Warning: the 3rd will lead you to a breakdown. All order is gone, no more schedules etc. I love all 3 of mine (all grown now) but I remember being thrown into utter turmoil by that 3rd arrival. Two seemed like a cake walk. So happy for your little family!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Congratulations!! Hopefully the exhaustion will pass soon and you will feel better. Sometimes change is scary, but it is life and good. You will have the whole mommy of two nailed in no time. Looking forward to all the baby related posts, or any subject! Keep well, and rest.

  48. Congratulations! My two boys are 3.5 years apart, and honestly I felt that it was perfect. The older one was able to go get me simple things when necessary (For instance, he could fetch wipes from upstairs when I ran out wipes tin the middle of changing a dirty diaper downstairs) and he was fantastic at keeping an eye on the baby if I had to run to the other room, and he was such a help when they were side by side in the back seat. He could help out with pacifier of feeding the baby a bottle when we were driving etc. I think he was old enough to understand the excitement of a baby brother and also old enough to not feel resentment at the attention the baby was getting. Am excited for you all! My oldest was born in August and I made the decision to have him start kindergarten when he had just turned 6, instead of 5, partly because I wanted them to be closer in school grades (they are three years apart instead of 4). This is scary now, however because at the ages of 13 and 16 I can now see that they will share one year of university time which is financially frightening!

I've been following your blog for several years and although I am a stranger I am thrilled for your family. Siblings are the best built in friendship. I have 3 kids and they are the best of friends (girl, boy, girl). Congrats!! The benefits far outweigh the momentary discomfort. You are a darling mom.

  53. Congrats! I just delivered baby #6 (my 5th boy), a few weeks ago. I can't believe how much more energy I have now that I'm not pregnant. Hang in there, I hope you get that energy kick soon.

  54. I haven't been here in a while, mostly because I'm tired and somewhat apathetic due to my own pregnancy. I'm also due in August (24th), though this is #1 for me. I'm not particularly enjoying this so far, and like you, I'm just waiting, tapping my foot, for that energy burst stage! When does that come!?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  55. AHHHHHH!! I'm so happy to hear this, S!!! Aggie is going to be a stellar big sister (when did she stop being a toddler & become such a little girl?! I can't even.) Hope you get that burst of energy soon. Remember how tired used to have a different meaning pre-kid(s)? Ha! Happy & healthy times ahead to you, xoxo.
