  1. ugh - i'm sorry the entire nate experience wasn't better, i really can't believe how it all went down (i've read a few blog posts on it). However, it must've been fun meeting all those bloggers - looks like it was a great party!

  2. Brittany9:11 AM

I attended a taping of the show in August, having just signed up online when his show was first announced. OMG. It was a nightmare. The entire process took close to 6 hours and I know it was one of his first show tapings but it was so unorganized and a total cluster.

THEN post-show his staff called and emailed me 26 times in one week to attend another taping. I repeatedly begged them to stop contacting me. Finally I tweeted Nate directly and told him his staff is insane. He apologized and they haven't contacted me since.

I know there are wrinkles in any new production but having been to various shows before, this was the very worst. Isn't Oprah a producing partner!? I just expected better. Or at least tolerable.

  3. It was a highlight of my day to finally meet you! I felt like we were old friends. It was a great group of ladies at that party, wasn't it? We need to have more of these get togethers in the future. Wonder if I could convince you (and some others) to come out to Stamford, CT sometime? Maybe an antiquing party of some sort? Hmmmmmmm, I may have to do that!

  4. I felt a bit left out that I missed Nate Day. Then when everyone got invited to go to the show I was super sad I didn't participate.

Now after reading all of this, I am GLAD I bypassed promoting someone who doesn't care about some very influential fans/designers/bloggers who could have totally boosted/promoted his show.

Regardless of how long the show has been taping, the fact that he can't do everything himself and plenty of other factors there is NO excuse for you guys being treated so poorly.

    Boo to Nate Jerkus!

  5. sorry about your experience on Nate. most of the hyperlinks you included at the bottom of your post don't work.

  6. It was so great meeting you!! I'm glad I went because I got to meet so many great women that I admire, you being one of them!

The flickr photo at the bottom doesn't work, but I have to add I do the same thing. I saw pictures of myself and thought - ugh!! I hate my hair, it's so curly (kinky!) and gross!! How embarrassing, especially since everyone had beautiful sleek hair. Why do women have to focus on the bad? It's hard, but when I find myself thinking these things, I try to always tell myself that I am who I am and to not focus on my flaws. Easier said than done!

  7. That stinks, but I personally don't think his show is very good. Give me David Bromstad any day of the week.

  8. I'm sure that after-party was killer. Glad you got to go and you absolutely did not look like a "three chinned slow witted monster".

I'm super critical of photos of myself, too. I've been in the shame circle plenty of times!

  9. You are the cutest thing!! It's my hair that looks disastrous ... as if I got caught in a downpour and it's all flat against my head with bangs brushed to the side. SIGH!!!! We all see what we don't like, I guess!

    LOVED meeting you!!!

  10. I understand it wasn't the best of circumstances, but I'd still be totally hyped to attend an event like this one! But I'd be bummed had I spent $$ to attend!

  11. I totally got the same take as you. I think it's because we didn't have to come so far it was about meeting all the great people. A highlight for me was meeting you. I hope we can get together again soon. I'm so bummed I didn't get a pic with you!

  12. I am not a blogger but I do Love to read them and use ideas I find. I must say my 2 cents though. Ladies--please get over your selves about the Nate show! Yes it would have been fun to get a shout out from him--but he didn't--and with any new show and even old standards there are always glitches. As for waiting and being hearded like cattle--go to ANY show with an audience and they do the same thing. It is for security and for last minute preps, lighting, cameras, etc. Your blogs evolve and improve over time--give Nate a chance......Sandy A

  13. Sandy A - I see your point but I think the issue was that we were told ahead of time we would be treated like VIPs (using their words, not mine). So I think when people come so far away and expect to be treated a certain way and then we are just treated like anyone who came in off the street, it leaves a sour taste. If I wasnt there myself I'd probably feel the same way as you do reading all about it but trust me, it was handled in a foolish way. I actually have no issue with his show itself - it had a few kinks but that is to be expected for something so new. Honestly, it would have taken so little for people to walk away happy - its just a missed opportunity and I think it deserves to be said.

  14. Well I don't blame you for being disappointed because an honorable mention to all of the traveling bloggers was the least they could have done. On the upside, you were able to meet all of those talented ladies. How overwhelming that must have been. Perhaps he WILL read a blog that was mentioned and it will be something that can be improved upon by his staff.

  15. Reading about last week meet up in New York has been so fun for me it's nice to see all my favorite bloggers in photos together and let me just say this, design bloggers are totally pretty!!

  16. I had such a great time and it was so nice to finally meet you!! The Boston girls will have to make a trip back again soon so we can all get togehter for another party :)

  17. I feel the same as you about the whole thing. I'm glad I went though. If I had to jump through hoops to get there I might be a little upset too. I think you're way to hard on yourself! You looked gorgeous in your dress!

On another note~ I think it's funny that I'm holding my cell phone under my arm while I help design that bar cart, and I had no clue there was a mirror on the opposite side of us! I won't mention the BLISTER on my foot from walking all those blocks!

  18. Still bummed I didn't meet you! How crazy is that.

  20. So amazing - even if the show was a stinker - how awesome having all these incredible bloggers in one place!!

  21. Sorry to hear about varied levels of dissappointment regarding the show. I have a feeling the decision not to mention you guys were bloggers was last minute. People who produce shows are usually pretty smart and have a responsibility to the investors. I'm sure someone may have realized level of talent and charm represented by you guys and made the decison that the Nate Show is too young to birth a new baby right now.

Maybe they can recity this by having an episode with pre- taped segments featuring invited design bloggers' projects from time to time that are relevant to a particular topic when the Nate Show is more successful. Oprah always embraced her followers in this manner.

As far as my hunch regarding why you guys weren't mentioned on air, as the old clich'e goes....that's show business baby.

  22. Though I can't click the link to see that shame circle photo, I'm sure you are mistaken! You look lovely and stylish as always. Too bad Nate was a bit of a bummer but I'm sure there will be untold positive repercussions of meeting all those other bloggers.

  23. I meant "rectify". I'm a horrible typer.

  24. Oh boy, that's me taking three cupcakes (how embarassing), but they weren't all for me - for real.

Despite all of the things that could have been better, seems like we all had an amazing time meeting some talented bloggers.

  25. love this post and your take...it was a pleasure meeting you finally. And i said the same thing. If I lived in NY, I probably would not feel the way I feel either..but hey..it is what it is.

  28. p.s. forgot to say that it's a shame that your experience at Nate Berkus' show was so poorly done. They missed an opportunity to create a long lasting bond with fans and supporters.

  29. I was one of the people who got tickets to the show but couldn't turn it around fast enough to flyu there... I would have gone just for the after parties... thanks for sharing

  30. Personally I think Nate is better used as a side course and not the main meal.

  31. You are absolutely ridiculous (about yourself!). You were totally cute and fun to be with. (Why do I look like I'm falling asleep in our picture?!) I agree, the Nest party was a highlight for me, too.
