Oh Baby: 16 months

Aggie is a full on toddler now - complete with running, climbing, a growing vocabulary and erratic mood swings. In other words, she is drunk.

As you can probably tell from my instagram / twitter / facebook feeds, we are having A LOT of fun with her!

On the travel front, we are picking back up where we left off with trips to Paris, London and Korea booked this year. I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit concerned with how flying with a mobile, vocal toddler is going to change the game. She has been a great traveler thus far so I can only hope for that trend to continue.

On the downside, I feel like I never have enough time.  I hate being behind schedule so its definitely a struggle for me to say no, schedule less, deal with not being on top of everything.  Any tips from the pros on this one?

  2. I wish I knew how to have more time... I sometimes break down during my drive home from work when I hit traffic because I left work with more to do so I could see my 1 year old before bedtime and hitting traffic means I miss bedtime... can't seem to catch a break on the time front

    1. Oh I do the same thing (except I'm on the subway when there are delays vs. traffic) and its so frustrating. Those morning and evening slivers of time are so precious and I'm completely depressed when I miss them!

  3. I am dying to take Max to Europe!! I am afraid of him on a plane because sitting doesn't really happen for too long anyway. I need to know how it goes.

I'm no pro. But, I have an 18 month old and I feel like there are a few things that help move us along faster. I prep all of his food the night before (wash, cut fruit/veggies, fill milk cup, bag everything) the more "grab 'n go" snacks the better. I have been doing the same for myself. Maximize nap time by doing laundry, cleaning etc so you can spend time with her when she's up. I try to limit our family functions to 1 or 2 a month (we both have huge families). Having "nothing" to do is sooooo underrated.

    1. So true...its so rare when we have nothing to do between working full time, the usual to-do list and just being barely social. But I make my own problems too by over committing myself. I just have to accept I have less free time but its tough!

You should totally take him to Europe. I figure even a bad plane ride is worth it in the end. But I'll let you know how these trip go :)

Play 'pretend' flying with the dining room chairs. The first few times, you are the flight attendant and give the fasten seat belt spiel and then have Aggie take a turn.

In London, fine dining will be a little less 'fine' but giraffe, Nando's, Wagamama, Pizza Express are loaded with other kids.

    1. Thanks for the suggestions. We are renting an apartment in London so we'll be able to do some self catering too which will be nice.

  5. I have a 13 month old myself an I feel your pain. I love his so much and could not imagine life without him...but having a young baby and a full time job fills one with the certainty that you can't be properly present for both.

However you give me hope on the traveling with the toddler front. We recently flew to Ireland with our little one. In addition to all the good advice out there regarding flying with a toddler (books, toys, snacks, activities etc), simply accept that it will sort of suck, it will be a limited period of time that will come to an end...and give yourself permission to have a couple of drinks.

We have been contemplating Korea ourselves so I am beyond excited to hear how your trip went.

    XO

    1. Thanks!

Based on my initial research, Korea seems to have a lot interesting kid friendly activities like indoor theme parks, etc. But I'll let you know how it goes in reality :)

    1. I just meant she acts like a drunk adult most of the time - mood swings, running around, speaking too loud, etc. It was meant as a joke but I won't quit my day job :)

  7. My tip as a mother of a grown up daughter...sit back, enjoy every minute and stop worrying about what you are not doing perfectly. Before you know it you will find yourself with lots of free time as an empty nester to do get everything done and done perfectly and it really does sneak up on you.

  8. You're going to Korea?! Awesome! I lived there for six years - many beautiful places to see there. Do you know yet which cities you'll hit? We took my daughter there when she was 7 months old and again at 5 years old.
I feel like I'll NEVER have enough time...you're not alone. If I want some me-time, I have to just take it. If I didn't, I'd go crazy. :S

  10. "No" is a great word to add to your vocabulary as you are in this parenting season! Because there will be so many "yes" moments you will treasure forever and will mean the world to your daughter! You're the best mom she'll ever have!! :)
