Guest Post: Quickie Key Rack Makeover

Today's guest post is short and sweet from Rachel Thomas of raenovate. (I think that gets the award for most clever renovation blog title, don't you agree? )

Rachel is an interior designer, blogger, and lover of "all things reinvigorated, refreshed, and revived." Her blog is only a few months old but she already has some great down to earth as well as inspiration makeovers featured. Without more yammering from me, the floor is Rachel's...

i love spray paint and i often find myself using it to solve all of life’s little obstacles. scuffed heels from last season? spray paint touch up. car bumper vs. shopping cart in the market parking lot? spray paint cover up. key rack found in brooklyn garbage pail? spray paint revival!

DIY projects can present themselves when you least expect it. the day i found this key rack i had spent hours scouring flea markets for goodies and come up empty handed. feeling defeated i walked home with my head hung low. fortunately that gave me a better view of the garbage pails lining the curb and I caught a glimpse of the dirty rejected key rack screaming for a bath and spray paint.

the revival was quite simple. i removed the white backing from the body and pulled out the existing rusty key hooks, took a quick trip to home depot (DIY mecca) for key lime spray paint and new hooks, and spent an afternoon carefully spray painting the frame. allowing the paint to dry overnight i reattached the backing and installed the new hangers the next morning. and voila that was it! a simple change in color totally transformed the drab, dollar store looking key rack into a piece with a personality. like i said, pretty much anything can be solved with a few coats of spray painted jazziness.

Quick and easy - what could be finer? Thanks to Rachel for sharing - please pop over to her blog for more.

Friday already. Hope you have a relaxing weekend and I'll see you back here next week with some more guest posts including: a bathroom renovation, 3 halloween projects, a kitchen update, a guest room redecoration, an international move and a partridge in a pear tree!

  6. I have a key rack almost identical to that in a box in the garage ready to be given away...and I have some turquoise paint from Glidden. I think I am going to rescue it from the garage!!
