Giveway coming soon...

Thanks for all your responses to my last post. Its good to know why you come back to read along.

It looks like we have a minority of renovators so I think I just might have to make it a two part giveaway. I have something old house renovators might appreciate already but no clue as to what to give to everyone else. More on that next week.

MagnoliaBranch

I'll leave you with a photo of the best $8 floral buy ever (on its second week of blooming) - this corner bodega magnolia branch.

Ding, ding, we have a winner.

Well, that was easy! The overwhelming majority voted for painting the nightstand gray. Your wish is my command.

And speaking of winners, I think its about time we had a giveaway round these parts. I have something in mind for true old house lovers but I'm not sure how many of you readers are in the midst of home renovations that would make this prize worth winning. Would you mind responding in the comments about what brings you to my blog: are you about to or in the middle of a renovation? are you more of a home decorator? or are you just here to read along with my rantings? here for some other reason (pls explain)?

A few people asked where I found the nighstand. Where else but my favorite haunt - Englishtown Used Furniture & Antiques. I'm pretty certain Mr. Limestone curses the day I stumbled upon this place as I now make him take me there at least once a month. As I've mentioned, its completely disorganized and filled to the brim with old crap - so you have to really dig and even then its hit or miss. But I definitely love this place.

Want to see what else I snagged?

OneDollarBust
This little ceramic bust marked at $3 but the owner brought it down to $1 because there is a crack at the back of the head.
Silverplateplatter
And this etched silver plated tray for $2.50. Again, I had to search through a mountain of crap to find this one but for $2.50, can't really complain.

Should you happen to visit there one day and find a raggedity looking woman with a glazed look in her eyes scanning the piles, that's me!

Color confusion

In my quest to finish furnishing my bedroom in this calendar year, looky what I found this weekend for $50?? A nighstand! Its been a little difficult finding something for this spot because the space is so limited.

Nighstand

So the question is - how do I finish it? Standing on its own, I sort of like the way it looks in its current state. There is damage to the top but it won't be so noticeable once a lamp is on top.

But when you look at it with the bed and the other nighstand, it doesn't look right to me.

Let's have a vote, shall we?

What color should the nightstand be?
Gray to match the other
Black
Leave it unpainted
Something else (explain in comments)

Don't leave your input all on the vote - I'd love to hear your comments too.

Domino Memorial

As if losing Domino mag wasn't enough, the website is now completely kaput. In memory of all the beautiful styled rooms, Cassandra of the very fabulous Coco+Kelley has put together a Flickr pool to soothe our mourning souls.

A few choice cuts:

If you have some Domino images hanging around in your Flickr account, here's your chance to contribute to the collection!
Thanks so much Cassandra!

Style & Skill Crush: Luckett's Antiques

On our semi-futile road trip last weekend, we stumbled upon Luckett's Antiques in Leesburg, VA. The name is a bit of a misnomer as most of the place isn't really antiques but rather a mix of old furniture restyled, vintage finds and new things that might appeal to an antique shopper. In a word, wonderful.

LuckettsCollage

The store is set up in an old home. There is room after tiny room of great pieces and their merchadising is beautiful. I'm pretty sure Anthropologie comes here for ideas because it has a very similar vibe (except with actual old things rather than hipster repros*).

I wish I had taken more photos but I was too busy drooling all over everything. There is just so much to explore here and I'm sorry I didn't have more time. Ultimately, we left empty handed but I'm still regretting not purchasing a couple of items Their prices are not cheap but they aren't heart stoppingly overpriced either. Even if you aren't looking for anything in particular, its a fun place to get lost.

As if their store weren't cool enough, I am in love with their website design! I wish I knew more about web development because I would love something like this for my own business site.

*For the record, I've love Anthropologie's home section so I'm not opposed to hipster reros when the mood strikes.
