Obsessed: Jellyfish

Maybe it's been cooped up in the cold for too long but I've been just the tiniest bit obsessed with jellyfish lately.  There is just something magical and mesmerizing about them.

I snapped these photos at the Baltimore aquarium last week.  They might make a less expected addition to the shore kitchen (instead of one of these posters)

What do you think? Is it just too weird?

Anyone else with me on my particular obsession?

    1. Thanks but which one? I only really have a spot for one large print.

    2. Definitely the last one. Or maybe the middle one. Those would be my vote.

    3. The middle one. Love the striking yellow against the bright blue.

    4. The top two are my favorites. If you want to go more neutral, go with the first. If you want to inject more color, go with the second. You can't go wrong with any of them, though, seriously!

  2. These photos are beautiful. We don't see jelly fish on the west coast (of Canada) until the water is warm, and so they are a sign of summer. Just stay away from the red ones! No I don't think your obsession is strange. They jellyfish are so ethereal, so graceful, so fleeting.

    1. Ive never actually seen a jelly fish in the wild. Just at aquariums. I'm sure if I had every met one up close, I wouldn't be such a fan :)

  3. Love them! My husband and I were just at the Baltimore Aquarium a few weeks ago as well. Here are a few of my photos: http://jax-and-jewels.blogspot.com/2014/02/tourist-for-day.html

  4. They're gorgeous! And you do have an octopus on your dresser, IIRC, so you obviously have a love of roundish sea creatures.

Is there anyway you could work these photos ( or others) into your shore decor?

    1. Not just round ones - I like sea urchins and star fish and other sea creatures too. I'm indiscriminate :)

Yes, the plan is to print one of these up as a large print and hang it in the kitchen but I can't decided which.

  5. You HAVE to use these in the shore kitchen!

  6. I can't stop staring at them. Did you love the hanging scuplture/mobile of them as well? That would be a DIY project for sure!

  7. i LOVE jellyfish and actually just ordered a few prints from our most recent aquarium visit to hang in our home. I especially love the yellow against blue. And trust me, even in the wild, they are just as beautiful...even if you don't want to get as close. :)

  8. You should check out Jelly Fish Lake in Palau! I went there in September 2013, and you can snorkel right with MILLIONS of them! It's really incredible. In this lake, they have no nature predators, so they have evolved to have no defense system or stingers! Really fascinating! Google it!

  9. These are gorgeous....but after being stung by one last year (it wrapped itself around my leg), I'm not so enamored.

  10. Oooh yes! Do the middle one.The colors are gorgeous!

  11. Love them (even though I was stung pretty badly by an enormous creature off the coast of Maryland as a child). Go with the middle one - the color and composition are gorgeous!

    1. Gah! I'm sure if I was ever stung, I wouldn't appreciate their beauty at all!

  14. I could watch them forever - they really are mesmerizing. We have our own little aquarium nearby, across the border from us in Jenks, OK. Yes, as far from the ocean as you can get! I can sit & watch the jelly fish more than anything else.

  15. Not weird at all! Jellies are beautiful. They are also so photogenic, they make me feel like I'm a rockstar photographer (which I'm not)! The Monterey Bay Aquarium had a spectacular exhibit last time I went.

    1. I had a hard time photographing these because its really dark in the jelly fish room, there were a ton of people in there and the reflection off the tank glass always gets in the way. I think I have to go to Monterey!

  17. looove jellyfish and the pictures, but think you should stick to the last 2 images because the 1st one has a completely different feel and color scheme, maybe you could choose another one more in line with the last 2?

  20. Love jellyfish and how fun would they be in your place!

Have you seen Jenny Andrews Anderson's [MFAMB] beautiful jellyfish paintings? The series was incredible and she accepts commissions. This one is a favorite of mine, titled 'Pedigreed'. http://mfamb.tumblr.com/post/67785403334/pedigreed-22-x-30-paper

  28. I'm rather late to the party, but welcome to team jellyfish! Your photos are absolutely stunning, and would be lovely if you had them blown up and hung. I have a few antique book lithos of jellyfish and they can be found on Etsy and eBay for very reasonable prices.

  29. Do you have these in your print shop? I would love to be able to buy one to put in my new apartment! I love jellyfish! There's just something peaceful about them....

    1. Hi Ana - I dont now because I'm going to change print vendors shortly so I haven't been adding new stock but if you tell me which one you wanted and in what size and timeframe, I could put it up. Just drop me an email.
