Office Makeover Color Dilemma

My office used to be one of my very favorite spaces.  Clean and serene and just for me.  But with the additional of 2 extra people, the places where I would store my supplies got taken over by clothes and diapers and toys.  So my little office has become a dumping ground and just not a fun place to be.

Which gives me perfect license for a makeover. I want to use some of the art I have laying around unhung as well as create plenty of open storage for my other treasures that don't have a good home.  I also plan on using crates and boxes to hide some of the clutter as well.

This was the before we got there and here is what it looks like now.

I think i'll keep my current desk just b/c it does the job but mostly because I haven't found a replacement I really love yet.  When I do, I'll pounce.

My big dilemma is wall color. I've really enjoyed the bright color that has been in this space up until now but since I'm changing it up, I think a new color is in order.  A pale grey was my first instinct but it's a bit boring.  I love black rooms so I've considered that but I'm resisting for this room.  I get good enough light to do all white but again, I'm not loving it.  I'd love to do a greyed down green ala Laduree but I don' think it works with my furniture. Usually I have a color idea right away but this has been holding up the whole works.  Any suggestions?

  1. I'm thinking a slate blue grey might be nice... quite a deep shade but not near black...

    1. I just painted my shore bedroom a great shade of dark blue/grey but I'm worried it might make it too masculine feeling. I want it to have some whimsy even though the furniture is pretty stark.

  2. How about a champagne pink?

    1. Hmm..i do think that might look nice but I'm not really a pink office person. But it would be a good foil for the industrial furniture.

  3. I just painted my son's room, Kale Green by Sherwin Williams. It looks great with black, white and wood. It's bright enough but also a bit moody (to satisfy the desire for dark). Good luck!

    1. I'm sure that looks great. I think that might be a little too hunter green for the light in here but it's a lovely color!

  4. I painted my very small bathroom a light warm pink, and it is just the nicest place to spend time. :)

  5. I think Laduree green would be great with your furniture, but what about a buttery yellow? (A tint, with plenty of chalky white) Your white table would pop, and the black furniture and zebra rug would look very chic against it.

But again, I think the green would be fine!

    1. The table is actually stainless, not white. And I'm getting rid of the zebra.

I use a creamy white a lot in my house in other rooms so I do like the color.

  6. Farrow and Ball Light Blue is gorgeous in a light filled room with just the right amount of color but still feels serene. Looks great with both modern and vintage/antique furniture and styling. It's at the top of the list for my daughter's bedroom which has both south and west facing windows.

    1. What a pretty color! Reminds me of the color Ive used a lot at the shore. Ive never used Farrow & Ball before but they have such a great palette!

  7. I'm thinking a nice whitish pink would be a good backdrop for the black and white and bit of gold you have going on in this room. And it would look very sophisticated and chic....a place that's only for you!

    1. Thanks Lynne. I'm somewhat resistant to pink but so many suggestions for it are definitely making me rethink it!

    1. Pink is definitely winning as the color suggestion. I would not have expected that!

  10. Pink seems to be a recurring theme! I have a different proposal. There's so much hype in the blogosphere about temp wallpaper. What if you did some kind of chair rail or board and batten on the bottom half, and then a black and white wallpaper on top? Maybe in an oversize damask or houndstooth print?

Obviously that's more work so if you wanted to paint I'm someone who would vote for a lilac or bluish-purple; ladylike but maybe not QUITE as girly as pink? Maybe Daydream by Sherwin Williams?

  11. If you go to Young House Love and look at the color that they chose for their beach house siding and made a pale version of that, it would be beautiful. FWIW, its a peachy pink too!!!!

  12. Grass cloth wallpaper, but the pink sounds good too.

  13. Well done. I'm now certain that zebra rug blend in perfectly in every room.

  14. What about Gentleman's Gray by BM -- especially if you like darker colors. I love that color.

  15. What about a nice hunter green? Not quite black but plenty of interest.
